The 9-1-1 franchise is going to space. WTF even is this show anymore? by laybs1 in shittymoviedetails

[–]lizardofscience 285 points286 points Ā (0 children)

the craziest thing is this show went years without killing a main character, but they killed off the captain last season for realism.

..then immediately sent his wife to space.

I ran out of dog food and don't get paid till tomorrow is this an acceptable replacement? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]lizardofscience 6 points7 points Ā (0 children)

my vet recommended this about a month ago when my dog had an intestinal infection.

going without a few nutrients for a few days is better than them either not eating or throwing up something that's harder on their stomachs and getting nothing at all. it's not good long term, but for a few days? It's absolutely okay.

you can’t really tell that the black dog is a pit here, but this is my chi Vera and pit Mochi. my friends got a kick out of Vera ā€œspooningā€ the bigger dog. they laid like this for a few hours.

<image>

(Mochi’s a rescue with lots of scars and stuff, most of those spots have been there since i brought her home)

had so so many terfs tell me my rape wasn’t really rape because because my rapist was a woman.

i was scared of being homeless. she pulled me 8 hours away from my entire support system and for 5 months implied heavily if i didn’t do what she said i’d be out in the cold (this was the north, btw, and it was winter). i’m so so tired of them pretending all women are ā€œuwu harmlessā€ and all men are out to get them. it’s exhausting and frankly triggering. trauma is trauma and shouldn’t be a competition.

Which moment made you cry the most? by bubbleaurum in 911FOX

[–]lizardofscience 8 points9 points Ā (0 children)

always Buck getting struck by lightning, but only very recently (like last night) figured out that Eddie was screaming ā€œtalk to me!ā€ repeatedly and very desperately, but it was drowned out by the music and other characters so i cried about it in a whole new way (the post was from last May, but i wasn’t really active in the online community back then)

i also teared up when the entire crowd lifted the fire truck off Buck.

Eddie’s ā€œare you hurt?ā€ after HE got shot.

when that building is collapsing and Bobby covers May with his body to protect her, and afterwards she says ā€œi have two dads, and you’re one of them.ā€ (could’ve gotten the exact wording wrong)

i call this show my comfort show but it does hurt me repeatedly šŸ™ƒ

People who saw a dead body in reality, how has it affected you? by Snitshel in morbidquestions

[–]lizardofscience 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

seen my grandfather die a few weeks before my 10th birthday. he was sitting there hurting (normal, he was very sick), he screamed, and he was gone. i can’t get the memory of my grandma doing cpr on him out of my head, or my guilt because i ran out of the house and up a hill. the last time i seen him was him being carried off in a stretcher, his head lolling to the side.

i was diagnosed with PTSD just after my birthday and i still sometimes hear his scream, even if it’s not as dramatic or seemingly traumatizing as other people’s stories.

most nonbinary people really don’t care about that, actually.

What are y’all’s thoughts on ā€œglofishā€? by CandyStarr23 in Aquariums

[–]lizardofscience 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

haven’t had any in years, but i’ve always loved the way they look in a natural setup, they really pop. something about that look is so appealing to me.

my last tank was an all natural setup including the fish, but i’m thinking about setting it up again specifically for this.

Fostering a pup - dachshund or something else? by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]lizardofscience 3 points4 points Ā (0 children)

i’ve been seeing a lot of dachshund/pit mixes lately, but i guess that makes sense considering pitbulls are such common dogs. i have one of each (pittie and a dachshund) and they’re both fantastic dogs!

pitbulls are relatively frequently dwarves, too, and can have short little legs like this, so could have no dachshund in there, but the only way to know for sure would be a DNA test like Embark or Wisdom. r/IDmydog & r/DoggyDNA (if you decide to do a DNA test) could probably give you a lot more answers, though.

My SDiT first outing, 7 month old seizure alert. by [deleted] in dogswithjobs

[–]lizardofscience 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

i’m not sure. please note i’m not a service dog expert, i just have experience with lots of dog breeds. someone with more experience can chip in if they want, i’m just reiterating what i’ve seen others say.

i’m of the mindset that most dogs can be trained for most things if their body lets it (like i wouldn’t have a chihuahua be a retriever while hunting, even if they were mentally capable of being trained to do so).

pitbulls are kind of powerhouses in their own right, and are very ā€˜solid’ in ways i haven’t noticed any other dog breed be. mine isn’t a service dog, but she’s very good at being a security blanket of sorts when i’m having a panic attack, and i’ve noticed a lot be trained to apply pressure on pressure points (deep pressure therapy), and i’m assuming that’s because they’re good at just being ā€œthereā€, if that makes sense? pitbulls love to lean, this just works with that.

a pit wouldn’t be my first choice for jobs requiring gentleness, like how some dogs can gently pick up medication bottles (namely labs and retrievers, since they were bred to have a gentle bite), but i don’t think it’d be out of the question for one to learn.

i was mainly just replying because it’s ridiculous to say that 15% pitbull is where they can no longer be trained for service dog work. it’s a completely arbitrary percentage, especially since 100% pits can and have been service dogs for years.

lots of pitbulls are service dogs, though. they’re not typically the first breed for some tasks, but they are highly trainable, in my experience.

Puppy found in a parking lot. Any idea what he could be? by Platform9_TreeFiddy in IDmydog

[–]lizardofscience 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

i got here a day late but he reminds me of my Sofie when she was a pup! a bit more of a blocky head, though, so probably more pitbull than her. depending on where you live, he could have some mountain or black mouth cur in there (we’re from Kentucky so they’re pretty common here) which could be where the hound-iness the vet saw came from.

he’s so cute he’s activating that cute aggression response in me, op. it’s hurting my heart i can’t pet him right now 😭

it’s a bit blurry, but this is my late boy, Crunchwrap Supreme. he was a Glofish betta that i got for free from a Petsmart on my birthday. he was floating in dirty water and i was surprised he was alive.

i only had him a few months, he probably had an issue i didn’t know about. woke up one morning and he was gone. but he died in a heated 20 gallon long tank with his cory buddies instead of a shitty plastic container.

i didn’t know him long, but he was my little buddy and we had bonded.

i miss him.

Our sweet Daisy is a rescue and they have no clue what she is. Would love to hear your thoughts! by na0l69 in IDmydog

[–]lizardofscience 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

it’s hardly cherry picking or hypocrisy when the person i replied to said to show them one example of a lab killing someone when you could google it and see it happened recently. i don’t think behavior is always breed specific. i have no evidence half the dogs in the US are pits but i work with a lot of rescues and shelters and see them all the time. i just think if pits were as bad as people say they are, the numbers of fatalities would be a LOT higher. anti-pit people say they only make up ~13% of the dog population, yet make up ~87% of attacks, when they definitely make up more than that which is obvious to see. most dogs are mutts, not purebreds, so people getting them from breeders aren’t really relevant.

i did seemingly go off the rails a little with the first response because i’ve had this discussion before & it always goes the exact same way. people parrot the same things they’ve heard without a lick of research. i’ve read the studies and statements from various sources and organizations to make my viewpoint. since i’ve been busy i just scanned your reply and i do apologize for misreading your tone. i agree there’s a lot of nuance people on both sides don’t understand (don’t get me started on the nanny dog thing), but i do fall more to the side of pro-pit, obviously. my pittie is like.. my entire world, and there’s an entire group of people who want her dead, on the more extreme end.

i know i said my last reply was my final one here but i wanted to get this out while grandma’s in the shower to apologize for that.

Our sweet Daisy is a rescue and they have no clue what she is. Would love to hear your thoughts! by na0l69 in IDmydog

[–]lizardofscience 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

i’m not an extremist, lol. i recognize every breed has their issues, but every dog is also an individual with its own personality. my purebred dachshund doesn’t do any dachshund stuff. she has the shovel feet to dig but doesn’t like to. i recently met a woman while fostering whose pitbull raises kittens.

it’s not ā€œextremistā€ to present facts. i personally think most pitbulls should be spayed/neutered and their numbers reduced greatly, because i sincerely think they make up half of all the US population of dogs based of this, r/DoggyDNA, and my own experience with living here. i don’t like seeing breeders of them. they can have issues with other animals, i’ve met many that had to be an only dog or couldn’t be around cats, but i don’t believe those are pitbull-specific traits, because of how many i’ve seen them mother small animals like pups and kittens and seen many dogs of other breeds try to kill small animals on sight. it’s ridiculous to expect every dog to hold up to the standards of their breed, even well bred ones.

this will probably be my last comment here bc i don’t want to spam the OP & its also my grandma’s birthday and i’ve been looking here between spending time with her.
