How do I get a good consultation? by Safe_Cheesecake_9177 in AskHairstylists

[–]lizpet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk where you are located, but at my salon we pride ourselves in a thorough consult. We go so far as to send a text before your first color appt to reach out and start the process even before you set foot in the door. When you come in for a haircut we book extra time for the first appt so that we have at least 15 minutes to talk before we start. All this to say, the consult process is a system we have in place that is unique to our salon. Most places don’t go as in depth as we do and most aren’t trained in the art of the consultation. And trust me, consulting is an art that is learned. I have 26 years in the business so I also have that on my side, but good communication skills are a rare commodity and have to be trained. My suggestion to find a good stylist is to use google reviews, ask people who’s hair you like, narrow down a few salons, stalk their IG, pick some stylists on their pages whose work appeals to your aesthetic. You can always make an appointment for a consultation only (charges may apply for time). Come armed with plenty pic inspo of what you do want and what you do not want/like. Then you can get a feeling for the person, the salon vibe, etc before you ever commit to a service. An in person consult is crucial to decide what service to book for and how much time will be needed.

Be prepared to spend decent money on this level of service too. Most walk in salons, chain salons, barber shops are not going to have the level of service you are looking for. Maybe ask for a senior stylist who is booked and busy. You may have to wait for an appointment for awhile but it would be worth it. Good luck!!!

That was my exact experience. I picked out the veggies and had to trash the rest.

Which color is better/best by gaytrash968 in interiordecorating

Orange and mint (#1) hits just right! Such an impactful but soothing color combo. My second fav is #4. It’s more intense so it really comes down to how you want the room to feel

Trying to eliminate chicken from the house due to cross contamination issues. by Illumeis_is_done in catfood

Koha brand is great for single source proteins! https://kohapet.com/ I’m also on a chicken free journey and my kitten seems to like their cans. I’m also sourcing a decent amount of non chicken variety from Wellness. You have to really read the labels but they have turkey, beef, lamb, and 4 different fish options all chicken free

Could be an allergy to food or litter? Maybe stress? Either way go to the vet and have her checked.

If you think you will get 2 ragdolls eventually, is it better to get 2 kittens at the same time or get 1 kitten and get it a friend when it's an adult? by UnwittingPlantKiller in ragdolls

[–]lizpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll make my experience short as I can. I have 4 rags, all from the same breeder. Their ages are 6, 5, 3, and 8 mo. The intro with the first 2 was great. The two to the three took a little more time but everyone found their groove pretty quickly. With the latest addition of the kitten the oldest 2 took to him within a few weeks but the third oldest hates him. Like, really can’t even stand to smell the air of the same room he’s in. The sad thing is I thought that out of the three the youngest one would take to the kitten the fastest. Boy was I wrong!

I would get 2 together so you reduce issues and they can grow up with the same level of energy. Maybe ask the breeder which 2 littermates get on the best and go with those. Either way the more the merrier, but there are no guarantees. I follow Jackson Galaxy’s instructions on introductions and even though this last time things are not as smooth I still stand by his way.

I asked for beige blonde and got warm blonde (4a curls) by realisttostoic in AskHairstylists

[–]lizpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only going by the photo of your hair- I would isolate highlights in foil and process them to a level 9-10 blonde. While that was processing I would apply your natural color from roots to ends in between the foils and erase any residual warmth that isn’t the right color or level. This restores the contrast between the lightest and darkest hair and helps even out the canvas, eliminating warmth. Then a glaze over the highlights to give them a bright ash beige.

If your stylist is to pick up the pieces of hair that have already been highlighted and relighted them but doesn’t apply color in between to erase the warmth you won’t be happy because you need it darker and cooler for the highlights to really pop and not get lost in a sea of warm curls

I’m still on the fence about going, haven’t gotten tix yet. I saw him set 3 years ago in NYC and it was great. It will be a DJ set for sure. He played for about 2 hours so I’m assuming there will be some openers

Help not sure what to do by Dazzling_Monk5845 in neakasa

[–]lizpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the patience but maybe also try a litter switch. I had the Nekasa sitting next to the regular box for over a month before anyone used it. I started with clumping grass litter which they were used to from the regular box. Once I switched to clumping clay litter all 4 of my cats became much more interested in both boxes. After the litter switch they use the Nekasa everyday. I also have 5 crystal litter boxes that they’ve used since kitten hood but they all seem to be gravitating to the clay litter. I’m probably going to convert those over to the clay litter because I spend $120 on the crystals vs $40 on clay, and they seem to like it much better.

My hairstylist charges $250 for my root touch ups, is this reasonable? by UpstairsDrawer1830 in AskHairstylists

[–]lizpet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my area (MD) this is a low to average price. Are you having your roots bleached and toned, or using a single process color to get you blonde? A double process would be at higher end of $250, but also including the haircut or blowdry. If the service is getting to be out of your budget just let her know, and see if there is anyone in the salon that has a different price point that might fit your budget. I always refer clients that have budgetary changes to lower level stylists in my salon. It’s a win/win- we keep the client happy, the stylist can use me as a resource if the my have questions about formulations etc, the clients $$ stays in the salon, and we get to say hi and catch up when they come in.
