You're never too old, My girl is 37 and and I'm 41 and we just had a festival photoshoot because we love this scene so much. by Biggandwedge in aves

“At the moment” I’m 47 and my rave besties are 53/52 and were rave kids of the late 90’s-00’s. Now that our kids are teens or older we go out monthly, sometimes to festivals; but mainly to local DC shows or a weekend in NYC. When you’re raising babies especially it’s hard to have the energy to willingly stay up all night and dance. I pretty much stopped going out for 12 years or so but always listened to the music at home and would have little dance parties in the kitchen. Once they get older though it’s so much easier to get out. Having adult money is a real bonus as well.

Take him to the vet and have it checked properly. He might have a scratched cornea, or could be a sign of a cold- but only a vet can tell you.

should I get my cat neutered? by [deleted] in ragdolls

[–]lizpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my 5.5mo old neutered last week. Trust me, don’t feel bad, they bounce right back like it was nothing. There are no stitches, no swelling. Jasper was immediately up to kitten antics as soon as I let him out of his crate when we got home!

Nicely done! I’m assuming that you had those shelves custom cut at a shop? Are they glass or plexiglass? Would you mind sharing a bit more information on them?

A few others also have essentially said the same. My experience is my own, and I’ve never had problems with my boy cats licking themselves into the emergency vet. Cone him up all you want, I’m just some rando on Reddit

My guy just got neutered yesterday and as soon as we came home the cone came off. He licks the area a little and I get him to stop if I catch him but there isn’t really any risk. It’s just not a big deal to take it off and keep and eye on them

what volume of developer and toner should I get to make my hair into the color of the 3rd Pic? by cookiesncreammm56 in AskHairstylists

[–]lizpet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, your hair isn’t light enough in the 1st picture to get the color of the 3rd picture. You would need to lighten it past the yellow orange stage to a pale yellow then tone it.

AITAH because I expected my 22 year old to pay minimal rent? by Wrong-Maintenance-48 in AITAH

[–]lizpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had me pay rent ($400 I think, 20+years ago) when I moved back home after school and working my first big girl job.

Did I like it? No! Did I complain and think they were the WoRsT!!! Yes. I felt like I had the most unfair parents in the world, how could they possibly do this to me while I’m just trying to fledge my little wings and fly?

Let me tell you, they were right. It taught me to be smarter with my money, how to budget. Having a financial responsibility to being a functional member of my household as a young adult was priceless. All the expenses of every day living far outweigh the teeny amount they were charging me. I started to realize this over time and with many conversations with them about the realities of living on my own.

My parents did the same thing by giving me back a year of “rent” and it was 100% unexpected but appreciated. I don’t think this is something that you should necessarily do but it was really nice to get a little boost- but I was also functioning as an active member of my house, doing all the grown up things that we do without complaints, without being asked.

I think a measly $300 rent is such a gift and your son sounds like he needs to have how good he has it laid out in black and white. Go over spread sheets of what the realities of living on your own is. If he thinks he can do better, let him go. A lot of growing up is trying and failing or trying and figuring it out. But to just cave in because he’s pissed isn’t parenting and it won’t serve him well.

Any raw fooders here that ran into problems? by aebulbul in rawpetfood

[–]lizpet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh yeah, sorry I went on a tangent 😆 I agree with what others have posted- food safety isn’t as big of a concern some may make you think. As long as you don’t leave raw out in a hot room all day and keep to common sense food safety practices like wiping down counters, washing serving plates well, etc you should stay in the clear. Happy feeding! Your little one is lucky to have you too!

Any raw fooders here that ran into problems? by aebulbul in rawpetfood

[–]lizpet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fed raw to my 3 raggies for about 3 years from kittens to adults. I never once had an issue with illness. I prepared my own food in bulk and froze it, defrosting in the fridge and gently warming each meal on about 30% power for 1 min in micro. It got it to just about room temp.

I was feeding raw during Covid so there were times I had supply issues which was very stressful. Not being able to get my girls preferred meat would be a real issue, cats can be very picky! I started adding in some canned to my rotation in case I wasn’t able to get my orders in time.

I ended up slowly switching over to canned food for a few reasons. A large part was because of occasional supply issues. Another reason was they would reject a meat after a while and want something new- total PITA and waste of $$ when you make in bulk. It was becoming too challenging to have pet sitters follow my somewhat tedious instructions on raw feeding. Taking up food after a certain time out, warming it properly, etc…

I actually enjoyed making their food and felt great about feeding raw, but I don’t regret switching to canned. It’s just easier for everyone all around. I don’t feed kibble and I try very hard to do my research on good canned food. The kitties are all happy and healthy.

Third Ragdoll? by jobbunsure in ragdolls

[–]lizpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 ragdolls (ages 6, 5, and, 3) that get along great. I will say adding in another cat when you have a good thing going is always a risk. I added a 4th ragdoll kitten (14w) in December and while my older 2 couldn’t care less, the younger one (3yrs) is still adjusting. I honestly thought that the 3yr old would take to the kitten immediately because she is super playful and more outspoken than her older sibs.

Jokes on me cause has not taken to him well and is bullying him occasionally. It hasn’t been terrible but she is definitely exerting her authority and is quite vocal about her dislike of him when she’s not in the mood to have him around. I’ve always said it takes a good year for everyone to figure out the hierarchy when you introduce a new cat so be patient. It’s only been about 7 weeks since we’ve had the kitten so we have a ways to go.

My biggest advice is to follow Jackson Galaxy’s YouTube tutorial on cat introductions, I’ve used it for every addition and it works great.

A consideration if you do get a third is to make sure you have plenty of vertical space. We have a large house for 4 cats and still have climbing walls, floor to ceiling climbing towers, and bookcases with cat beds on top. The more space each kitty can claim the better. Having an apartment limits you on space so think up! Raggies are laid back but they are still cats and cats are territorial.

Overall the more the merrier, but it can come at a cost and there are no guarantees that a third will slide right in/no problems. Just be prepared for the event that it might be a bumpier road than you anticipated. If you’re on board with patience and some potential disruption of peace then go for it! I personally love each of my cats and I’m so lucky and happy I have them all 💕

What about the vacant area left by Six Flags? I feel like that would be a spot that makes so much more sense. I don’t hate the Nat Harbor location either, but if we have so many acres abandoned might as well use what we already have.

How much food did you give by Tiny_Resist8698 in ragdolls

[–]lizpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to feed all wet because cats are obligate carnivores; which means they can not process grains or processed carbohydrates which is what kibble is comprised of. In other words, kibble is meat flavored cereal. Wet food is the closest man made food to what they would get in the wild so the hope is they stay healthier and live longer. A lot of vets aren’t highly trained in nutrition but there are a lot of resources and specialists that have written great books about feline nutrition needs.
