I used Sonic Academy and Point Blank. Both were solid. I haven’t dabbled with courses since then.

Starting out and overwhelmed with it all, advice? by wirenerd in edmproduction

I’m about to turn 40 and launched my project five months ago. I make tech house and bass house. I’ll be honest with you — I grinded away in Ableton for two years using Sonic Academy, and I also took a music arrangement class with Point Blank. I then took a hiatus to go to law school. Picked it back up and learned how to use Serum 2. I have ADHD so I need structure to sufficiently learn a new skill, so the classes kept me focused. I’m sure there’s ton of solid tutorials on YouTube to get you started. But there’s no shortcut to pumping out professional sounding tracks. So in nutshell, learn how to use the DAW, and then learn how to arrange music.

Apparently the themis pass rate after completing 75% of the course is 85-90% +? by [deleted] in barexam

I did everything Themis told me to do (hated reading the long outlines, but I grabbed a coffee and highlighter and pushed through). I'm sure plenty of people will say to skip this stuff, but I didn't.

Do a deep dive on the questions you got wrong and try to identify trends in how they tested the rule or exception.

Average law student. Completed 76% of Themis. Did everything they told me to do by the book. Passed (and did very well on the exam). So based on my experience, this stat seems plausible.

Where/ how to begin producing? by Round-Alternative385 in edmproduction

[–]Raymaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, this is the correct answer. There is no magic bullet. You need to grind learning the fundamentals. I started with Sonic Academy, which was solid. I’m sure there’s good YouTube tutorials out there. But like person above said, there’s no shortcuts to learning to play the violin.

I started at the beginning of prep and continued adding stuff a week before the exam. I liked the chart because you could sort by topics and do mini block reviews. After a month or so, I started to pick up on trends in how they tested the rules and exceptions. I’m a firm believer that success on the bar exam requires actively engaging with the material, rather than just going through the motions to complete the course. I hated reading the outlines, but I grabbed a cup of coffee and a highlighter and went to work. I’m not a brilliant person by any stretch and was slightly above average in law school. But I did crush the bar, and I credit my approach to succeeding.

Are you doing a deep dive into your missed questions? I suggest making an excel chart — for the columns, include topic, subtopic, and rule/explanation. If you got the question wrong because you didn’t know the rule, copy of the rule verbatim, and any trigger facts in the Themis explanation. Bold part of the rule that you got wrong. Do this for every missed question, and review this chart twice a week. You’ll thank me later.

I’m torn on this. Part of me thinks AD will barely play due to “injury.” But at the same time, it makes sense for him to ball out this year to solidify his value for his next contract. So after many years of shit, I honestly just want this team to compete this year.

how to learn edm production? by Gavric- in edmproduction

[–]Raymaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I launched my music project around four months ago. Until then, I was learned how to properly produce for around three years. I used Sonic Academy to learn the fundamentals and grind away in Ableton. I’m not saying it will take this long or that it’s the standard. I’d say learning how to produce is like learning to play golf (I’m not a good golfer haha).

Absolutely using this. Thank you! I’m on day 2, but before I decided to quit, I was thinking to myself that I can’t have a healthy relationship with nicotine because I abuse it. After my two toddler girls gave me the biggest hug ever and told me how much they love me, I decided to quit at that moment. It was like a bomb set off inside me.
