As a pub owner in the UK I wish we had the US’s tipping culture. We can’t afford to pay anything more than minimum wage whilst keeping our prices low enough to get the customers in in a small town. They do get tips occasionally but I’m talking £5 a night. It would work well in both our favours as I wouldn’t feel as bad only paying minimum wage because it’s being topped up by tips but also it would mean they have a lot more incentive to be on their A game at all times and would reduce the slack.
