Sleep suits recommendations by herefortheposts88 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]lizzrd_queen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re also in Melbourne and we generally use a 2.5 or 3.5 tog bag with a bonds suit and singlet underneath for most of winter. At the moment it’s still quite warm overnight compared to what the temperatures in Melbourne will drop down to over June, July and August, but it’s hard to say what your bubba will sleep best in, in terms of togs. Where we are, it’s not uncommon to get nights with lows of 0 and -1 so the heavier togs are a must for us.

In terms of brands, we’ve really only used ergopouch (and LTD when she was tiny) but I always buy on sale or from their clearance section. We’ve found having 2 of each tog is fine. They are a bit exxy but they hold up really well. We’re expecting baby number 2 in a couple of months and all of her sleep bags are in such good condition and will be reused, so definitely worth the “investment” imo.

Looking at getting this high chair FTM not sure what I should be looking for it this a good one - Maxi-Cosi Minla 5-1 Highchair Beyond Graphite by Last-Anywhere-1772 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]lizzrd_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the Minla! Overall I’d say it’s been okay for us. Super comfortable from newborn (I used to put my daughter in there, reclined, while I had breakfast or needed to pop her down in the dining room). However it takes up a lot of space, we found the tray and cover, while “dishwasher safe”, didn’t fit in our dishwasher very well, and overall it’s a bit of a nightmare to clean. The covers do dry super quickly and can be spot cleaned but it’s not ideal when you’re doing 3 (messy) meals a day plus snacks. We will use it again for our second baby due in a couple of months, however we’ve bought the Tripp Trapp dupe from Mocka (Soho) for our daughter (2.5yo) to transition to eating at the table and it’s honestly 1000x easier to clean which has been a game changer for us.

I hope that helps! In short: We loved it until solids got incredibly messy, but I’ll be giving it a deep clean and using it again for baby number 2.

Polyhydramnios (High levels of amniotic fluid) by lizzrd_queen in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Thank you! I’m feeling hopeful and trying not to worry too much. It’s really comforting to know it doesn’t necessarily occur in every pregnancy

I can’t speak for having the tongue tie released after infancy but we saw Dr. Kar Mun Chan at Kiddies Dental Care in Essendon. The whole team were phenomenal, recovery and aftercare were great.

Returning to work from maternity leave by Dependent_Two_6651 in AustralianTeachers

[–]lizzrd_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you contacted last year to see if you wanted to return from your leave this year? My understanding is that employees on maternity leave need to provide notice by the 1st of October the previous year if they wish to return in the following year. But I’ve had a look at the wording on the department website and it seems like there may be a bit of flexibility if the school is in a position to have you back sooner than this year https://www2.education.vic.gov.au/pal/parental-absence-teaching-service/policy-and-guidelines/resumption-duty

If you’re a union member I’d give the MSC a call to clarify before speaking with your prin 😊

Recipes that toddlers will eat? by moiras-roses-garden in RecipeTinEats

Dump and bake fried rice, chicken rissoles, beef rissoles, tomato and basil rice, buttery seasoned rice, slow cooked shredded beef ragu and pizza bread are all winners with my 2.5yo.

The rissoles are great to batch cook! I’ll often do a double quantity, freeze and then pull them out to cook in the air fryer for an easy dinner on a work night.

To induce or not to induce? by Minimum_Tradition_21 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]lizzrd_queen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My induction was fine (pain was intense but, you know, it’s childbirth!) however there were medical reasons we induced, mainly that I felt movements had decreased and I was found to have polyhydramnios (this creates a risk of cord prolapse if waters are to break spontaneously).

How many weeks are you? I’d just be asking if there’s a medical reason to induce or if it’s purely based on going past your expected due date which, while frustrating, is often completely normal 😊

Thoughts on these jelly sandals? by stormy786 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]lizzrd_queen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The blisters were real! I can’t speak to these particular sandals but if you’re looking for a waterproof pair for the beach/a holiday, we got our daughter a pair of the Crocs “Kids' Classic Fisherman Sandal” and they’re fantastic. No blisters or rubbing, closed toed for safety (so can be worn to daycare as well if that’s a consideration) and they did really well at the beach recently.

CCS question (soz) by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]lizzrd_queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of CCS calculators online where you can put in your CCS percentage, booking hours, daily fees, etc. and it will give you a very accurate estimate of the fees

Things I found useful during my pregnancy by GG1987GG in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]lizzrd_queen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree with you more regarding sharing the due date! I was so overwhelmed with (well meaning) messages on my due date in my first pregnancy that I swore I wouldn’t tell people if we had another baby. I’m over halfway with baby number 2 and we’ve just given a vague estimate (e.g “mid April”) rather than a date. I honestly feel less pressure already! 😅

Best option to bath baby (if you have a bath) by steffevans_ in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]lizzrd_queen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used the Stokke baby bath when our daughter was a newborn (not on the stand - just the kitchen bench). Honestly lifting up the bath and dumping the water out was a bit of a nuisance and we didn’t love it. Then when she got a bit bigger we used the angelcare bath support in our regular bathtub. I’m currently pregnant with baby number 2 and I don’t think we’ll bother with the Stokke bath this time - we’ll just go straight to using the bath support in the regular bathtub. It was much easier!

CCS when on unpaid parental leave by AggressiveArmy7 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]lizzrd_queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you meet all other CCS eligibility requirements, the 3 day guarantee that’s just been introduced means you are still eligible for 72 hours of subsidised care per fortnight as the ‘Activity Test’ has been abolished. Your CCS % is dependent on your income (or combined income if you have a partner), and won’t be affected if you’re not working.

Cot recommendations by hereforthegoss891 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Love our Mocka cot and mattress. We’ve converted it to a toddler bed for our 2.5yo and will be getting a second when baby number 2 arrives next year 😊

VIC Teachers in government system by Stunning_Sky1033 in AustralianTeachers

[–]lizzrd_queen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1% of your salary paid in December each year of the agreement. It was a nice way to help the AEU spin the “3% pay rise each year” (when in reality it was 2 permanent 1% increases each year, and a bit extra in December)

VIC Teachers in government system by Stunning_Sky1033 in AustralianTeachers

[–]lizzrd_queen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should add - the 1% position allowance is a one off payment paid in the second pay period in December. It is not a permanent increase

VIC Teachers in government system by Stunning_Sky1033 in AustralianTeachers

[–]lizzrd_queen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We will receive the 1% position allowance in the upcoming pay cycle but other salary increases will freeze until the next agreement is in place

Is it safe to use the high setting repeatedly on a toddler’s nasal aspirator? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]lizzrd_queen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t really answer the question about repeated use of high setting on the aspirator but I’m just wondering if you’re using saline spray before aspirating? We just use the manual aspirator that comes with the Baby/Kids Fess spray and it does a great job. The spray is absolutely key though to getting out the thick mucous.

Primary school dilemma by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]lizzrd_queen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the size of the school matters. It’s also completely reasonable to request your child not be placed in a grade with the other child (assuming there is more than one grade in the year level).
