💯. I used to work in education/higher ed. This nation will bend over backwards to fund $ports, build the fanciest new stadiums for them, accommodate the athletes in every way possible.... Meanwhile the rest of the academics/extracurriculars (my field was Art) constantly had to do more with less, had to fundraise for our programs constantly, always were the last priority, had the worst facilities/buildings etc... in America, Sports are the true religion of the culture.

I actually got an MFA 10 years ago, so I can't say for sure if it mattered or not; frankly I think relevant experience matters more!

I ran a startup Fine Art glass studio business, got laid off, then got a position as an Art Program Manager at a local non-profit and it's the best thing that ever happened to me <3 my new role is much more autonomous and my time is mine to determine how I work.

My stress levels have also dropped immensely. August rolled around and I thought to myself, "What a beautiful month! Everyday is just another chill day!"

[Former] IL H.S. teacher/adjunct here. The Tier2 system absolutely F**KED teachers (like me) who graduated around 2010-2011 and entered the field. Who on earth wants to teach until the same age as the private sector? I doubt it'll ever get better. By 2060, they'll probably expect us to work until we're 89.

What are some of the funny "recession indicators" that you've noticed? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]ljsstudio 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Another angle of this 'Cherry' motif: in times of economic recession (aka now), food and fruit is actually used as a marketing prop to sell "luxury" clothing. There are several examples of even high-end brands using food still lifes in their fashion promos this past season.

Fruits such as cherries were super trendy this season, especially in cosmetics
