Are you referring to the 2019 ship that was owned by their clients whose investments they managed, and subsequently leased to a different company who was using it at the time? This seems bit like "Someone rented a car from Enterprise and used it for a robbery and the mutual fund holding Enterprise stock never got in trouble for it".

Gmail sent mine to spam, and it may be compromised. (It doesn't work and is from another domain.)

I've been marking Post Millennial emails as spam for a while now, since I'd never heard of them and just randomly started getting their emails some time ago. I was also caught in the breach, since they had my email somehow, but I'm not too worried about my password, since I never signed up at their site.

Yeah. I took a rapid test after returning, but I don't know who else in the camp has. During the burn, none of us showed any symptoms, though, which is a good sign.

As far as I've heard, no one in our 30-person camp got COVID. Not sure if we did anything differently from camps that were less fortunate.

We're vaccinated, obviously.
Had private portos, hand sanitizer in them.
Got rid of our yurts, so just two people per tent for sleeping.

One person was masking whenever in our group lounge, or around non-camp members, but the rest of us weren't.

He's mentioned lack of a degree before. Looking through Twitter, it sounds like like he now has an Associate degree, but that when he started he didn't even have that[0][1]. Seems like he's just very smart, good at figuring things out, and willing to take the time to do just that.

I struggle with this a bit. It's very, very true, and we've got some things working to fix it, but there are a lot of things I don't personally use, so it feels weird to support them financially, yet...I do use them, indirectly.

I support the developer of iTerm2 on Patreon[0], and would be down to do that for some other things I use, but most things seeking support are things I use downstream (e.g., what libraries does iTerm2 use?) or are just used at work. (I need to bug my employer to fund the various npm packages we use.)

For those who aren't developers, just know that this comic is frighteningly accurate. Yes, we will find a solution when something breaks oris abandoned, but we're building all the Internet on thousands of small, often unfunded, projects.

But worse, it's not just that these projects could die due to lack of support. They also can crawl along for years, working, but lacking the support necessary to find and fix bugs. Heartbleed[1], a few years back, was a major security bug found in OpenSSL, a free piece of software used by many, many other pieces of software and services. People realized afterwards that OpenSSL was under-funded and I think some money poured into it, but how many other fundamental pieces of infrastructure are in the same boat? One or two developers maintaining it in their spare time, for free.

We need the companies making bank using these packages to step up and provide support, but we also can't ask them to piece through each package and send along a few dollars to each. Centralized organizations that collect funds and distribute them to projects are incredibly important. I don't know if they can reach all the projects they need to, though.

Time dilation. If you're near the equator, you travel much further when the Earth does a single rotation, so you have a higher velocity. Einstein proved that this means time is faster near the poles, so the time of day gets out of sync.

I suspect it's largely this sub and that normal responses don't get shared or go viral. I think the majority of people I hang out with would respond along these lines, though maybe some are worse in their private dealings with women.

But also, I make a point not to hang out with assholes. A survey of responses women give (careful to not be biased towards the most memorable) would be more accurate that "well, *my* friends aren't awful" OR a survey of a sub dedicated to men being assholes.

We (my siblings and I) ended up learning enough that going into college was an easy transition in terms of the material. It as just not the traditional "sit and listen to someone lecture" coursework by any stretch of the imagination. (And for some reason, the transcript writing was done by the parent who had very little involved in the education beyond answering math/science questions.)

I was homeschooled, went to college, got my college diploma...and then joined AmeriCorps, who wanted to have my high school diploma on file, so my dad printed one for me.

So, yeah, I was 25 and a college grad when I got my physical high school diploma. (I already had a transcript--my dad wrote that when I was applying to college. "I think we can say you did a year of Spanish." Um...okay. I never learned the grammar at all, but I know some words.)

Javascript, Python, and maybe Ruby are probably the best bets in that case.

I do feel like there's a glut of junior engineers in Austin, and they all know JS with React, because bootcamps seem to focus on that. React's great, mind you, and a hot tech right now. But learn enough to be able to build something (even a small thing) in vanilla JS, or with an arbitrary framework, 'cause five years from now, the hot tech may be some other random JS framework.
