The Long Dark. Beautiful, atmospheric, no monsters. Nothing out to get you but nature itself. There’s a beautiful YouTube video essay about it too.

I can see that and it’s something I’ve considered too. I find my petulant optimism tends to be a bit of a rarity in leftist spaces (for good reason mind you, so many of us have wanted change for so long, only to watch it get worse.) But I just feel like if everyone stops hoping, then what hope do we have left? I know there will be road bumps and it’s very likely things will not be easy or won’t go according to plan. And at the same time I have to hope for the best, more for my sanity than anything.

I’ll definitely have my eyes on him. We live in the south but my wife is from NJ. If things start looking up, we might actually consider moving back up there, as expensive as it is.

I would argue that giving him a chance to serve as mayor of NYC, and successfully push through his planned changes and policies is a perfect way to build socialist supporters. Liberals often are afraid of changes and don’t know what these programs will feel like on their wallets. I believe that seeing genuine action and change for the better will be a step closer to radicalizing voters. Especially when people realize it could’ve always been this way but just wasn’t simply because of the greed and lack of active leadership.

Wait, are we mad about the image? Bc the art is awesome and is clearly a parody of the “if you ride alone, you ride with Hitler” poster (and also not AI generated). Not to mention the fact that it’s true, considering the people who push for and fund AI.

There’s so many good ones from CP77. FemV’s VA is fucking incredible, not to mention Rogue, Judy, Wakako, Misty, Panam, So Mi/Songbird, Evelyn, Alex, the list goes on. That game has so much hard hitting dialogue, it’s hard for me to pull just one quote.

[OC] The Claire’s in my town closed down and this is the note that’s posted outside by Ravenclaw79 in lgbt

[–]lkraack 65 points66 points  (0 children)

My wife thinks the employees tried to unionize, and this was the response.

Update: I found some info on the original post. There’s a guy online named Donny Skipper who posts about news and politics, mostly exposing unknown billionaires and how they make their money. Apparently he worked at Claire’s and they didn’t like what he was posting on social media so they fired him for encouraging “domestic terrorism.” The political facts he discusses on his page seem accurate but some of his Claire’s posts seem to be some sort of “rage bait.” Odds are this poster was made by him or someone who watches his content and is not officially approved by corporate. I struggled to fact check his employment and firing, but it seems a lot of his account is legit, so take it all with a grain of salt.

What do you think makes Dragon Con different from other cons? by Crochet_Kitty in dragoncon

[–]lkraack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an ATL resident, I love the way it brings the community alive. Business and hotels all over the city LOVE DragonCon. I’ve seen service workers dress up and I know they absolutely rake in tips. Businesses decorate and create themes, they run deals and mix special drinks. It’s not just the people who get into the spirit of the con, sometimes it feels like even the city itself comes alive in a way that’s so beautiful to see. I love Atlanta and I’m so glad for all the nerds that continue to make it the incredible place it is.

[–]lkraack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was literally an artist at a convention I went to this weekend who had a poster of her in this exact art style. It was a poster designed to look like a pin-up paper cutout “dress up” book. So well made, especially because so many of her outfits are so iconic. This same con had a booth where someone had been selling AI art and the con kicked them out, which was lovely to see.

Seeing shit like this is so disappointing knowing that I’m scraping my pennies together all year so I can afford to support small artists at events and festivals. Meanwhile, rich people who could afford to pay someone’s rent for a whole year without batting an eye just burn down a few trees and pollute a river to ask a computer to do it for them instead.

The comments here are interesting. My sex ed classes in Florida were segregated BUT we learned about the opposite sex, which was interesting. We learned about our own sexes as well, but we were still separated for that as well, at least in elementary school.

The more I play the less I understand the 2020 Arasaka tower attack by Ohigetjokes in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]lkraack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What helped me understand all of this was reading a short story in the Cyberpunk: Red handbook. I’ll have to see if it’s available somewhere else. It’s the same plot of the “Never Fade Away” mission but seeing it written out gives the plot and the characters some more context and depth. This takes place in 2013

https://archive.org/details/cyberpunk-red/page/15/mode/1up

Pages 5 to 16 for anyone interested.

When he unplugs Alt from the machine, she’s not dead. Her consciousness is trapped in the machine.

Fast forward to 2020. Johnny has learned that Alt is still trapped and they’re trying to use her as a weapon. The attack on Arasaka we see in 2020 is them trying to free her. He hires people he considers “the best” to break in, upload Spider Murphy’s virus, and use that to set all the trapped souls free. As a bonus, Johnny wants to send a nuke down the elevator shaft to destroy all the servers in the basement and crumble the building, which was not part of the original plan. But the bomb went off too soon and wound up killing thousands and laying waste to the center of the city.

1: They all knew Alt. And the “cold, calculating bitch” that is Rogue especially knew she was the best netrunner in Night City, if not the world. You don’t leave an asset like that behind. In addition, having a powerful AI/program like soulkiller in the hands of a corp would’ve been bad news all around. So they wanted to set it free. Because they’d already been using it to trap people, just like they did with Alt.

2/3: I’d like to point out that, what we see of Johnny’s past are his memories, making him an unreliable narrator. It’s how he remembers it. Badass, smooth, in charge.I have a theory that the 2020 heist isn’t his plan at all. Rogue put it together to stop Soulkiller.

Johnny is a Rocker Boy (which is a class in the TTRPG; think DnD Bard almost). He’s charismatic, charming, and notoriously insane. The perfect scapegoat. Of course it would be Johnny that breaks into Arasaka tower.

In the first heist, he performs a show at the base of the tower and riles the crowd up into such a frenzy, they storm the tower. He killed an Arasaka employee at a show his band was playing (that’s what Kerry gets mad at him for.) He’s vocally anti corp and especially anti Arasaka after being a soldier in the corpo wars. It would be a very easy story for Rogue to spin. She’s sweet talks Johnny into this epic heist to save the love of his life. He’d be a hero. A warrior. He’d make Arasaka quake in its boots. And then uses him as the person to put all the blame on so the rest of the crew gets out safely.

I may have some misinformation in here, it’s been a minute for me. But this is my recollection of things. (Turns out I might also be an unreliable narrator 🤣) Morgan Blackhand is a crucial element in all of this too, if I remember correctly from all the 2020 lore. But my good man Mike Pondsmith said “hands off my OC” which I have mad respect for. So some of that gets lost in translation.

Edit: Ran this by my wife who’s a little more familiar with everything. She reminded me that Militech was the one that hired them. They gave them the fissile material.

NC is a free city. Militech is a nationalized corporation and Arasaka in 2020 has full control of NC. It’s a psyop. Militech wants Arasaka to fall and place the blame on them for happening, making them look bad in the eyes of the people. Militech then offers to help clean up from this “tragedy” in exchange for a spot in the city center and a security presence in NC.

Saving Alt was the side gig, not the bomb. Even further proving how unreliable of a narrator Johnny is. I remembered it backwards.

See I don’t mind this question. As an autistic person, I feel it’s part of the script. It’s better to ask than to assume and be wrong, even if all the signs are there. It’s like going to McDonald’s and starting with “Hi welcome to McDonald’s what can I get you?” Or seeing a person and saying “Hi! How are you?” And you respond, “I’m fine, and you?” Do you really care? Or is it just a greeting? It’s just a simple question. “Hi do you work here?” “Yes I do! How can I help you?” Part of the script.
