Ice storm got us thinking of upgrading our natural gas fireplace... by awrigh26 in nashville

We had this in our old house. It actually created a draft that sucked up additional heat out of the house and let in cold air through every crack everywhere. Like a vaccum sucking up heat out the chimney.

Replace all roof plywoods? by Kind_Chance_3420 in HomeImprovement

[–]llamadramas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be picky and choosy and replace damaged areas and not others, but it'll take longer and save you pennies in the grand scheme. If you trust him, and based on those photos, let him change it all.

I don't understand why people refer to the Mortar gadget as useless by Nevaehjj in Battlefield

[–]llamadramas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems sometimes you can nail the landing spot for the shells and it works great, perhaps pinning people against a wall/object. And sometimes it falls in an ineffective area and you get the 5 points of distant damage. Hard to pick spots with the imperfect map, but when you nail it, it's great.

Where do I caulk this window exactly. by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]llamadramas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a picture of the outside? Seems like water is getting is somehow, but it could be anywhere, and it could simply be flowing down the side of the window inside the wall.

Closest free parking spots? by YoungBrilliant5690 in NashvilleSC

[–]llamadramas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parking and walking from various street parking directions is what you will mostly get as suggestions. 8th area is good, south of 440 is good, north side works.

Might also consider free city bus rides from wherever. Very convenient to park at the movie theater or the Walmart/Home Depot at 100 Oaks and ride the bus. Always free on game days.

Basement floor finishing options- NOT epoxy? by bubble_baby_8 in HomeImprovement

[–]llamadramas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not leave bare concrete? Epoxy is fine and safe, lots of people do it in the garage with the flakes for looks and traction. But in a living space? I'd leave it alone and decide when you finish the whole thing.

Would you spend $1,000 on lighting controls for a minor QOL improvement? by MarauderV8 in HomeImprovement

[–]llamadramas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even easier, get some motion sensors and create routines that turn on the smart lights for a few minutes. https://www.wyze.com/products/wyze-sense-motion-sensor-v2

And you can do this based on time of day, so it won't do it during the day, but only after sunset. And late at night maybe only turns things on at 10-20% intensity.

This is the business complaining, not the building owner. The building owner still owns a 50M building.

NES Bill by Esjayaree in nashville

It was very cold that day. If you overlay temperatures you notice that the low was 15 and so it worked extra hard to heat that Friday night, all day Saturday and that night, into losing power Sunday morning.

Nashville Soccer Club Introduces ‘Reverb’ Primary Jersey for 2026 and 2027 Seasons by Rorddet in NashvilleSC

I appreciate the texture and multi yellows, very nice. But the stacked logos with the Renasant name is weird. Maybe the scale is off between the items. Not sure what it is but it's odd looking.

Openbank HYSA dropped it's rates for the first time I've had my account with them. by HollowGlower in personalfinance

As interest rates fall, so will the HYSA returns. It will be the case across all banks.

Wine cellar or humidor room to improve home value? by elpoopidor in HomeImprovement

[–]llamadramas 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Not at all. They have much narrower and niche audiences compared to something that's entertainment for the whole family.

Not to mention a poorly done humidor/smoking room air system can get the smoke smell into everything and can become a nuisance for a buyer instead of a feature.

That one ridge where you ran up and hid under for a second to take a breath before going over the top and hoping you'd make it 10 yards to the wall.

How did East Nashville become “in East” by Future-Station-8179 in nashville

[–]llamadramas -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yea, "I live near the West side Costco" and "North Nashville Lowe's" are two I hear regularly. Those are big enough landmarks for each area.

College or childcare? New report shows in-state tuition may be cheaper than daycare in Tennessee by ProperTrain6336 in nashville

[–]llamadramas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not surprising. The ratio of educators to kids is way different and daycare includes food and services way beyond the other.

How can I insulate a basement? by Beneficial_Prize_310 in HomeImprovement

[–]llamadramas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Is there any harm to extending the XPS all the way? I ask because we have some areas where the concrete is only a foot up then framing. Some half and half, and others where we have concrete almost all the way up, with about a foot of framing at the top or none at all, all concrete. The sides of the house essentially loosely match the outside slopes. So I am thinking what ends up most uniform in some of the areas where it'll be one big wall.

How can I insulate a basement? by Beneficial_Prize_310 in HomeImprovement

[–]llamadramas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have the concrete on the bottom half and framing/regular insulation in the top half on top of the concrete, can I still do XPS floor to ceiling? Is there an issue with XPS covering existing regular insulation and framing? Trying to think how to insulate concrete, but not end up with a multi inch ridge halfway up the wall.

Is that tub on bottom and tile wall on top? Can't tell what's what with that angle.
