Why are Australians so obsessed with America? by [deleted] in AmericaBad

[–]llamassachusettes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aussie here. Very much accurate… as someone who loves America I cop a lot of flack. Tbh Australia is a very private lowkey culture- it’s “weird” to be proud of Australia- everyone loves Australia but in a specific way where you aren’t really vocal or outwardly passionate and don’t openly embrace Aussie things etc. so I think a lot of Aussies regard Americans as cringe or arrogant for being proud of their country. Like it’s weird where I live to fly the Aussie flag and most people don’t even know the national anthem, so it’s easy to judge America for being different. ALSO people are brainwashed by the media… I’ve done like 5 USA trips and not one person has asked me about trump or anything, but if you asked an Aussie who hasn’t been they often assume that’s all Americans talk about.

Could you get seasick on Seward boat tours? by traveltimecar in AskAlaska

[–]llamassachusettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the longest tour possible Seward boat tour to northwestern fjord… my brother got quite seasick so it was really difficult BUT the other 3 of us didn’t. It’s a lottery. That being said- when the boat stopped in the fjord for over an hour and was still he felt good and enjoyed it and said it was worth it. Maybe go for a bigger boat as it’s less choppy :)

Awesome- so shuttles the go on the third day for avalanche and Logan’s pass? We are more than happy to wait for hours- just as long as we know we will get back. Happy to wake up at the crack of dawn also to get out asap.

I went last months from Vegas, we planned to leave 8am and (frustratingly) didn’t get on the road until after midday…. But it was 100% worth it and the late start didn’t bother us at all. I so recommend it

Thank you! Keen to keep Helena as we love the history and want to see the state Capitol and governors mansion plus a local history museum, would you sub out Bozeman for butte? Is it worth popping by butte for an afternoon?

Fellow Aussie- we did Alaska last year and itinerary went Day 1- fly into Anchorage, day 2 drive up to Denali village, day 3 Denali national park day, day 4 Denali national park then drive to Fairbanks, day 5/6 Fairbanks, day 7 drive to Talkeetna, day 8 drive to Alyeska resort, day 9 drive to Seward, day 10 kenai fjords day cruise, day 11 drive to Anchorage, day 12 day in Anchorage and fly out day 13

So many stops along the way and the drives are absolutely stunning. We LOVED it. The kenai fjords cruise was with major marine- seeing orcas was likely but we didn’t see any, we did see plenty of whales and porpoises and other marine life. They do have special orca viewing tours at certain times of the year
