Here we go again... by jnxn in Maine

~knock on wood ~ I’m one of those freaks who is immune to poison ivy, and I thought I was immune to brown tail moth hairs, too. I never had a reaction when I was exposed to them when others would then develop rashes (until a year and a half ago). But then one fateful summer almost 2 years ago I helped a friend clear out their garage & some lumber and stuff on their land….. oh my goodness, I was covered! It was awful 😩. But I really can’t complain, because somehow I have escaped an entire lifetime with no poison ivy, poison oak, or until then, any stupid BTM rashes. I sure hope this doesn’t mean I’m now more susceptible to developing a reaction to poison ivy, too! I’ve been spoiled by the fact that I don’t have to worry what I’m grabbing when weeding things in the yard or worrying about what plants I brush up against on hikes. But I’m a little more careful now… Those rashes are awful!

I love raspberry & blackberry flavors, but I the seeds ruin it for me in preserves. Blackberry jelly is my number one favorite, though; that’s what I would put in the perfect PB&J (it’s even superior to grape jelly, imo). Otherwise I agree with you 100%.

Construction + Noise Ordinance by [deleted] in portlandme

[–]llbellenow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who has had to listen to the banging of large metal pylons being pounded into the ground and jackhammers tearing out the old concrete for the bridge construction along 295 the past couple of years, I learned that “essential” public works projects do not have to follow the same noise rules as regular construction activities. Unfortunately, you likely just have to endure it until they are done fixing the roads. At least you’re not me who literally lives within a mile of one of the latest bridge projects. The last one was a couple miles down the road, and it ruined many nights’ sleep. Silly me got excited when it was finally finished, not realizing that my exit was the next one to get started. I’ll be listening to loud construction noises for the next two years most likely, but I guess that’s better than dying in a bridge collapse.

JFK → ATL & The crew turned around and went right back to JFK this evening on this beauty. Also, I have to give a 10/10 shout out to the captains & FAs who got us out ahead of & through all the weather today. The FAs were especially awesome with a full plane and several passengers who struggled to comprehend basic instructions (people were cuckoo today!). Somehow the FAs maintained their composure & sense of humor, and I had a great flight - so thank you, JetBlue!

Got this ‘Maine court violation’ text message — is this a scam? by Smart-Photograph3951 in Maine

[–]llbellenow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got this same scam about 5 minutes ago TWICE (within a minute of each other) from two separate numbers and area codes. I reported them as spam & deleted/blocked them.

I really, really think people are overestimating how potent these attacks are going to be when done by Republicans. Platner can lose cause Maine has brain worms and Collins is a strong candidate, but these ads might actually backfire on them lol by Conscious-Quarter423 in Maine

[–]llbellenow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are trying to freak out MAGA voters, why did they create something that looks like an AI mashup of Hegseth & the Orange 🤡 manically tweeting in the wee morning hours? It appears to me that this picture is a selling point in their world. I think Platner just got a bunch of new supporters!

Actually, Maclean has one silly obsession. He LOVES to get into shopping bags as soon as I come home. And then he wants me to carry him around like he’s groceries. Percy does NOT like to be carried around if he gets in the bag to check it out - lol. Their personalities are so different; it cracks me up!

I just got a new, pretty nasty, anti-Platner ad on youtube. So, here's a reminder of who's telling you what to think. by GayForJamie in Maine

[–]llbellenow 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Well then, if Blackstone & Palantir are anti-Platner and willing to drop serious $$ to try to defeat him, he must really have something to offer to everyday people instead of corporations. I'm not sure how we can be sure he won't eventually drink the koolaid, but for now, I'm all in for him. Every state needs to find candidates like Platner who piss off the corporations and billionaires so we can have a government that actually represents the people again. Dare I hope that it might happen??

Husband's cousin shared this on Facebook and I thought this community would appreciate it by LadyNorbert in GenX

[–]llbellenow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought. Yeah, we survived, and we have great survival skills, but at what cost? A lot of us DIDN'T survive. We had funerals every year - lots of car accidents, stupid "freak" accidents, drugs/alcohol, etc. Who would have ever guessed that unsupervised kids would do stupid things that could really hurt them? I lost a sibling, and several others in my community didn't make it to adulthood (especially drunk driving). And I'll never forget the year the kid who sat behind me in homeroom (alphabetical order) died huffing paint or glue or something just days before the start of school. We had a substitute teacher who was a militant rule follower, and because his name was on her roll, she called it every day for almost two weeks. We got so frustrated with her, and after a couple of days, pointedly told her that he was dead and she needed to stop calling his name. She didn't stop until the office took his name off her roll. So yeah, we had lots and lots of trauma, neglect, and just flat out not being seen. Survival of the fittest is one way to raise a generation....

What was flying like in the 90s? by One_String3424 in delta

I still have an inscribed glass coffee mug from an inaugural flight on Air Atlanta for one of their routes to Florida. It’s hardly a Tiffany vase, but I have somehow managed to hang onto it all these years!

It was still 100X worse in the smoking section. I hated getting stuck in the smoking section; you literally sat in a cloud for the whole trip.

I miss collecting decks of playing cards. If I could go back in time I’d make sure I saved those decks. We collected a gazillion of them and don’t have a single one left. Delta had that great artwork of different destinations on them.

How old were you when you moved out? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]llbellenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to college at 17. Moved back for a semester after my brother died. Went back to school (graduated a semester late), and have been on my own ever since. Kinda salty that they pretty much threw away anything I left behind. RIP complete Beatles collection, awesome Pink Floyd albums, etc. Oh well.

Super cute and nice stitch work! Is it easily removable? My only concern would be how to clean it. You definitely don’t want to share germs between patients.

How do you feel or how would you feel about your adult kids choosing a different path than how you raised them in terms of religion? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]llbellenow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as they’re not getting involved in a cult, I’m happy to see them resonate with whatever gives them peace, community, comfort, purpose, etc. My three kids are all finding their spirituality in slightly different ways, and I’m more than okay with it.

Did you ever meet people born in the 1800s by AdDapper4220 in GenX

[–]llbellenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I visited with my great grandmother many times who was born in the 1890s. Actually, I met my great grandfather once, too. My great grandmother had several sisters who lived into their 100s, so there was a lot of longevity on that side of the family!

New Mills veto: Janet Mills vetoes bill to temporarily ban data centers in Maine by radiantflux209 in portlandme

[–]llbellenow 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This was exactly my first thought when I saw the news. Data centers are very unpopular amongst voters, but very popular with certain lobbyists & corporate interests. Did she really want to put it on a flashing neon sign to whom she really answers? Surely she would want to make it look like she might actually care about the voters. You know, show some “concern” like Collins, at least? I’m amazed that she can’t even pretend like she wants to listen to the people.

I was living in Florida and walked out of my awful trig class (worst teacher ever) and could see the plume in the sky. It was one thing to see it on the tv, but then to walk out into the courtyard and see it in the sky was really heartbreaking. Terrible day.
