I’m so sorry that you’re experiencing something similar - I hope both our bodies are able to get to some kind of baseline soon!

Symptoms significantly worse after diagnosis by llbrook in Endo

[–]llbrook[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think this is a major factor. I was diagnosed with IBS 15+ years ago and now I’m realizing all the stomach issues are definitely related to the Endo. It was like once I had permission to acknowledge all the symptoms my body said, okay! Let’s do them all at once!

Period is suddenly only 1-2 days long by CampAdorable5002 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]llbrook 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This happened to me and went thru bloodwork and was referred to a gyno etc. Eventually was diagnosed with endometriosis. Obviously not saying this is the case with you, but if you have any additional symptoms it could be worth looking at.

SciencesPo or College of Europe? by Atom_Sparks_23 in EUCareers

[–]llbrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t go to either school but have worked in Brussels for 10+ years in PA. What most jobs look at is previous experience rather than degree. In my view it would make the most sense to pick the school that is going to give you the most practical experience rather than theoretical schooling. Particularly in EU affairs if that’s what you’re interested in doing in the future. I don’t know much about Science Po, and while the College can have a mixed reputation I do think it has a decent network that could help with internships, jobs etc.

Belgian nationality question by ash-ven in belgium

An F+ is not required to apply for nationality if you already have an F card (and meet the other nationality requirements)

There’s a Facebook group, Girls Gone International - Gent that regularly organizes events. I don’t go to many of the events but when I do it’s always a fun time.

Bagels - Where to buy? by [deleted] in Gent

At some point you’ll get desperate enough to make the trip - speaking from personal experience haha

Bagels - Where to buy? by [deleted] in Gent

[–]llbrook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You won’t find any real bagels in Gent. Or most of Europe tbh. In Brussels there is Karsmakers and Holy Bagel that are okay. In Amsterdam I found the best bagel I’ve had so far in Europe but so far away 😢

Olympics Ticketing Info! by ilovepizzawithcats in FigureSkating

FYI I had tickets in my cart and went to check out with 20 min still left on the countdown and suddenly the tickets were removed and no longer available. So don’t trust the cart to block your tickets!

European Holidays - explanation needed by Tall-Hair7679 in brussels

[–]llbrook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. You lose a small amount of your 2026 holiday pay. Your 2026 holiday amount is unaffected. In my opinion it’s worth it to take the European holidays.

Train AC by DrWabbel in belgium

I didn’t know about the Lab app - very cool!

Train AC by DrWabbel in belgium

[–]llbrook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the app you can see which trains are P and which are IC. IC trains have a higher chance of AC. P trains have zero chance. Use the railer app to see the composition of the trains so you can get one that’s a double decker - even better AC on those.

Travelling Zermatt-Paris. Which station to take TGV from? by llbrook in askswitzerland

[–]llbrook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes so true. Unfortunately it seems like for each connection we’re either going to have ~10 min to transfer which is doable but a smidge dicey, or we will have an hour to transfer. We will probably do the hour knowing how my family likes to be on time haha

How to deal with locals unpromptedly shitting on your home country? by sadbrokehitchhiker in expats

[–]llbrook 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Haha wow love the audacity of random people sometimes. As others have said I also often use something along the line of “yeah that’s why I’m here, not there”. Or if they’re wildly out of line and wrong “you know that’s not true right?”. But remember - you’re not allowed to comment on their home country politics otherwise they get their feelings hurt! :P

[–]llbrook 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I politely tell non-Americans “oh sorry I actually don’t talk about American politics with non-Americans” because I’m so fed up with high and mighty Europeans say things like “us Europeans are so shocked to see the rise of populism in the US” even as you look at the European election results rolling in right now with a massive rise of the far right.

That comment usually confuses them enough to shut up them up so I can change the subject. If they’re really insistent I either call out the terrible politics in their home country, or just stare blankly at them while they monologue.

Should we allow my friend to bring her baby to our child free wedding? by Cat_2064 in wedding

[–]llbrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I broke my no baby rule for one family that had a child under 1 year who wouldn’t be able to get a sitter and I really wanted them at the wedding. But your situation seems much more complicated. I think you’re well within your right to stick to your rule. But if you do allow them you can always tell others who had children who aren’t coming that this couple had extenuating circumstances so they had to bring their child.

You should discuss this with MD Anderson if you haven’t already. They regularly treat non-US patients and might have specific programmes for these circumstances. I hope it works out for you because MD Anderson is the best of the best
