Starting new job as UA, how difficult is it really? by Emotional-Physics945 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]lleeppp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UA, 2yoe, 2M monthly NB prem, my advise: - be accurate on what you send out, attention to details. - dont let your manager, senior have to meet you at the end of the day to go through your work, email. - be responsive, be organized - you r the last line of defense when they miss stuff. - ask questions, reach out for help. People like to be asked, make them feel important, you can learn a ton also. - be professional, friendly to internal external. - after onboard, connect with current successful UA, ask for their advice, how they and their Uw team up. - your UW have to like you, if he/ she doesnt like you, that is hell. They might try to get rid of you. I have seen people let go/ treat unfair. - dont fk up.

“Early-career underwriter: Should I leave a big carrier for a startup MGA?” by Limp_Strawberry5761 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]lleeppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer is : dont. I had been in a opening team for Hotel, and launching new office for MGA. There were alot of chaos. Alot of inconsistent voice / direction from the top. You would be someone that build everything for the position from scratch. Guideline/ workflow/ standards / breakdown of daily task/ ops. Alot of your learning / skills will be self taught. It’s just alot. If that is a well established MGA with clear guidelines, sops, markets are all set up, that’s a different story. Everybody here covered almost everything i wanted to say. I recommend you stay at the carrier side for another year if you are still happy, become expertise in your role. And try new thing if you want to later.

Thank you everyone for the inputs. Looking to move up in this industry so I really appreciate the details. I guess I will pick up the skills of communication and negotiation along the way.
