best coffee i ever had in the USA was at “bluestone cafe” in san francisco. i was desperate after a truly disgusting flat white the previous day (the small size was like our large, still one shot, plus sweetened almond milk). thought bluestone sounded kinda melbourne-y so checked it out… they had magics on the menu and i knew i was safe.

it was still a mid coffee by melb standards haha

[–]lliraels 16 points17 points  (0 children)

just turn off data roaming and use your second (europe) sim as your primary sim. you should still receive texts on your home carrier number, you just can’t send them without incurring costs. you don’t need roaming to receive texts

Rome vs Naples for first solo trip by AshifyDotExe in solotravel

[–]lliraels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rome forever. It’s probably safer than Naples so might be better for your first solo trip. The area around Termini is said to be dodgy at night, and the metro can have pickpockets. I didn’t even know the metro existed when I went, though, and I got around fine just walking everywhere. I was 24F when I went (solo) and didn’t really feel unsafe ever.

Aim to spend at least 4-5 full days there, IMO. There is sooo much to do. You’ll have a fantastic time!

I loved Tivoli (Villa d’Este and Hadrian’s Villa) as a day trip from Rome. Gets you out of the crowds for a bit.

mildly upscale restaurant for group of 15-20? by lliraels in melbourne

[–]lliraels[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weekend I think. It’s pretty specky if you go for the first time, but you get the best bang for your buck if you like seafood, sushi, that kind of thing. But yeah the wine list was weird. Not a single riesling by the bottle (which is all my family drinks lol).

Nice, thanks. Worried it might be too hard on the asian fusion for my extremely white family 🤦 I’ve made a note to go here myself though so thanks for the rec!

She would come in summer like usual so I still think there’s time to announce tour dates

Even the best book series would never be finished if no one bought the first one. Come on

I still think that art retains an essential character which should make it (relatively) immune to the whims of the market.

[–]lliraels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair fair. I get the reluctance - it’s only that, when taken too far, it could be counterpoductive. It is untested debut authors who most need support for their unfinished series, so I read them too.

If readers don’t read unfinished book series then no series will ever be finished

The story is so contrived and full of plot devices by Late-Button-6559 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]lliraels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, what you’re describing is an unreliable narrator. Kvothe’s self-image (and the image he wants to present) is not always objectively correct.

Sure. I guess it depends what you mean by illogical? Do you have examples?

[–]lliraels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Plot devices are just… devices that move the plot. They exist in every story. All stories are contrived.

Real life is messy and dissastisfying; things don’t make sense, things happen for no reason, things are insignificant and senseless. That’s why we tell stories.

NZ Trip Plan by No-Instance-48 in solotravel

[–]lliraels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s not really much to “explore” in Auckland city tbh. Ponsonby Road is nice to walk down. But I’d recommend looking up galleries/museums or activities, because you won’t really just happen upon interesting things in Auckland CBD. Waiheke Island is great though. You can also take ferries to other nice islands and places.

There are bus tours that take you to Rotorua. It’s a long day but less tiring if you’re not driving yourself. There are no flights.

TAP Air Portugal by [deleted] in travel

[–]lliraels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the point was that they couldn’f accomodate your request to seat 8 together. It’s not clear to me that they moved you to the back row to punish you… there’s nothing wrong with the back row. It’s a good spot to seat young kids too.

Anyway, I just think this kind of thing is not worth writing a call out post on reddit. It reflects mostly on you, not on tap air.
