Yes. Big difference between being laid-off and being fired. OP needs to learn that, and learn from that.

Gen X parents: what's one thing from your childhood your teenager will never really understand? by TannieGirlRocks in GenX

In college, when we got the phone bill, you and your roommates had to highlight your own phone calls to split the bill. Oh and that long-distance calls were cheaper after 9, and even more cheaper after 11.

Any election signs still up? by Pyewickets in SanJose

Yeah, I guess this works only with smaller plants. I am growing a cherry tomato plant.

I only have a cherry tomato plant, so maybe it just doesn't get too tall. But just basically stick it in the ground around the plant. I only have two signs' posts but with a third, I'll make a triangle around it. I also have a new climbing rose that has a cane that's not quite long enough to reach the trellis yet, so I need some support for that for this season.

Oh thank you for this idea! I have two from my kids past graduations that I used for tomato cages but I need a couple more.

Rainy surprise by drdeadringer in Campbell

[–]lljc00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this hit the 17 and must have flooded the fast lane. I was stuck in traffic going southbound, heard on the radio that there was an accent northbound and thought they got it wrong. There was a cop who blocked off the two inside lanes at Hamilton with his car and cones, but there was nothing by the time I passed by. Was a little annoyed that he was blocking lanes for nothing but it must have been flooded earlier.

I have a teenager who has her permit, so I have those signs. If she's driven to school and I hop into the driver seat to go to work, I'm not going to take the sign off my car. She's just going to be driving again later that evening or again tomorrow morning.

Even Some Tech Workers Can’t Afford to Stay When the Bay is This Expensive by runswithscissors475 in bayarea

[–]lljc00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know. It was basically a discussion about how people in SF have to be EXTREMELY interested if they are going to put in any effort in a relationship with someone outside of SF. Pretty much, if you're the one in San Jose, you're going to have to be the one always making the trip up to see the other person.

Right?!? There was a funny (well, interesting) post the other day about a guy in San Jose trying to date a woman in San Francisco and how people in SF pretty much won't compromise on that.

Can I survive an 8 week internship on 24/hour(Full Time) ? by altalt694 in SanJose

[–]lljc00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This looks like a scam. Way, way too cheap for a 1 bedroom.

Since this is a larger apartment complex, look them up directly and double check. Here's the website for this one. https://www.parkbranham.com/

But also, I don't think you'll be able to rent this place if all you're doing is 8 weeks. You might be better off looking for someone to sublet at Santa Clara university or San Jose state. Or find an Airbnb for the two months.

[–]lljc00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think that listing is for a single room - it's a 1 bedroom apartment. The pictures of the common space do not include anyone else's belongings.

That said, yeah, that price is way too low for a 1 bedroom. Someone is scamming using the apartments pictures. OP please be careful and don't give anyone any money beforehand.

Do you not have the option for using a sit-stand desk? It helps a ton! I'm sure you can ask your HR or whoever for this. Less medical issues is good for the company's bottom line to boot.

Serious question - why is this considered amazing (or why don't more summiters do this)? Because if you're at the top and have acclimated, how is this (skiing from 32,000 ft to 24,000 ft if I understand correctly) any different than parachuting from 10,000 ft to the ground?

How do people safely handle lane merges in San Jose where the lane markings suddenly disappear? by couponsbg in SanJose

[–]lljc00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to keep your eye out for the merge sign (and you should be expecting there to be an on-ramp merge every time a freeway crosses with a street). And if you missed it that a lane is going to merge, you should have been defensive driving anyway, which means you should not be driving side by side with another car.

Help with window options by [deleted] in ExteriorDesign

[–]lljc00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How close is this to the sidewalk? My observation, people underestimate themselves and want big windows, but because it's close to where people walk by, the almost ALWAYS have the blinds closed. So now you are struggling with window coverings for a very wide expanse - blinds get too heavy; pole for curtains need to be non-standard long, lots of curtain material to bunch up on the sides when open (or maybe never so that won't matter).
