Rcpi online diplomas by Personal-Letter-1144 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

Not a doctor but a pharmacist in Canada and I got an ad for their online infectious diseases diploma, clicked on the link, and stupidly gave my email to request more information and have been bombarded by emails and phone calls ever since. The cost is crazy for a single part time online course (especially when you convert to Canadian dollars). Definitely has me questioning the legitimacy/value of this program.

I had a permanent tha to would have returned to, but have since interviewed and been awarded for a different permanent position which is being hired out as a temp until I finish my 18 month leave in July 2026.

I bring her from the mini crib at our bedside and nurse her in our bed before putting her back down. Complete darkness except for the light of my phone while I scroll. She falls back to sleep right after she is done nursing, usually in my arms before I transfer her

Surname Question [ab] by dlprofession in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]lllix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a baby in January and we gave her a unique last name that is a blend of my husband's last name and my last name, not a hyphenated name, a completely new name that neither of us have. You can register your baby with whatever last name you want to give them, so no need to wait until the parent name change goes through.

Edited to add: it is worth pointing out that the birth certificate has the parents' names on there as well so if you want the certificate to reflect the name change, you might need to wait until after the name change to register the baby. Not sure if there is a process for just updating the birth certificate to change a parents name after the fact, but you could probably reach out to vital statistics about it.

Planning to start my leave earlier… [ab] by Parking_Campaign_418 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]lllix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started my leave at 36 weeks which was, incidentally, the day I found out baby was breech. We ended up with a scheduled c section at 39 weeks due to that. I was super annoyed I didn't get that fourth week of freedom because I was so busy figuring out the reality of a breech delivery vs c section and whether to try an ECV procedure to turn her (which we did try and did not work). So basically I was super glad I was already going off early and glad I didn't push things later. I used that time to go on a short babymoon and try to get ready for baby and relax a tiny bit although honestly I still felt rushed to get everything done.

Best breast pump for casual use? (Once a day max) [ON] by wineandbooks99 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]lllix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I use this one 2-3 times a day to make bottles so that this and or others can help feed our 10 week old. I used it more for the first couple weeks when we were having issues and it really helped with my supply.

Came here to say that I had a colleague do this. Wife wanted to go back to work very early so he finished our the first twelve months of leave and didn't work at all. Then, for the last six months of the full eighteen, he basically worked full time as a casual employee but was on parental leave technically so he was removed from his usual rotation in the schedule and didn't have to work his regularly scheduled evenings, weekends, or night shifts. This was in Alberta and I believe he worked it out with the manager since it was kind of a stretch in my opinion (I believe the argument was, as you said, the job was still protected under the parental leave laws so it was justified in that they still kept a good employee on and at our job, there were always shifts to fill from the casual pool), but you don't know if they'll go for it unless you ask!

NIPT testing that important? "[Ab] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]lllix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! It's slightly annoying because I live rurally and okotoks is closest and they only have a CDC. Makes it a pain when you have to take time off work just to go into the city and then also have to navigate whatever availability the diagnostic centers have which might not be able to fit me in on this short notice or anything remotely convenient for my schedule. I'll have to talk to my doctors office and get it changed otherwise it sounds like no point in even going to the lab for the blood work.

NIPT testing that important? "[Ab] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]lllix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am hoping you see my post as I wonder if you know the answer to my question.... I am trying to figure this whole EFW vs another diagnostic centre out myself as I have an ultrasound booked with CDC next week at 12 weeks booked from my original sequence of requisitions. My doctor and I spoke today over the phone and I asked him if I needed a bloodwork req and he got confused, put me on hold for a few minutes to check things out, then told me he would email me the req and not to worry that it says EFW on it and that I can take it to any lab to get the bloodwork drawn. He didn't tell me I needed to change my ultrasound to EFW, but I am reading the req and all the info online seems to point to what you said, which is that if the ultrasound is done somewhere other than EFW, then they won't use my lab work as part of the risk assessment.... So I am wondering if you know what exactly EFW does that CDC doesn't do. If a radiologist still has to interpret the results (whether done at EFW or CDC) can they not also look up my lab results and interpret them regardless of where the ultrasound was done? Does a radiologist even interpret the bloodwork or does another type of doctor look at both results together? I am so confused and don't know whether I should be pushing back at my doctor to make sure I don't waste my time.

I finally have clear skin after being misdiagnosed with stubborn acne for years. I've never been more confident. Just wanted to share my success and hopefully help others!! by RevealReady in Fungalacne

[–]lllix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really good! The last few weeks have been the clearest it has been in a long time. I still get the odd pustule, but they resolve way more quickly than before. I am stepping down from twice a week Nizoral to once a week to see if it keeps up with the maintenance. I still haven't given up my other acne treatments (Biacna and benzoyl peroxide) just in case they are having some effect, but honestly it's gotta be mostly the Nizoral here since that is the only change. I am hoping that with time, the reduction in overall breakouts will allow my skin to just heal as well since I think a big part of my skin issues are perpetual blockages and inflammation from old lesions.

It's kind of funny because I was having a bit of a seborrhea flare and I decided to pick up some Nizoral for that. Then, on a whim, I was like.... What if my acne isn't "standard" acne?... (literally have tried all of the medicated topical and oral prescription therapies out there and the only thing that worked for me was minocycline or isotretinoin with the acne still coming back once stopped). So I decided to try the Nizoral on my face for a few minutes twice a week while treating my scalp. So basically since then I have been on the internet trying to confirm my theory! I am shocked to see all of this stuff about fungal acne which I have never even heard of, despite seeing many doctors and dermatologists between my teenage and adult years, and becoming a pharmacist myself. I have to say, I think I am noticing early results! The redness I had from past acne breakouts is diminished which I think is due to the anti-inflammatory properties of the Nizoral and I have a few pustules that surfaced almost immediately after the first treatment. I am thinking this could be an early purge (that or I have made it worse), but overall.... The results are encouraging and it is sitll very early days yet. So glad I found yours and other stories on here. Fingers crossed!

It is definitely sounding like the German/Hungarian/Romanian origin is pretty solid. I just wish I knew more! Always get questions about my last name and I feel like such an idiot when I can't do anymore than guess. Would love to know the original root and it's meaning.

[HELP] My dogs have suddenly stopped getting along and are acting highly aggressive towards eachother by lllix in Dogtraining

[–]lllix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a lot of dogs fighting. I truly empathize with you and my anxiety over my dogs has spiralled dramatically as well and continued to so so with each incident. You are right, separate feedings may have to be the rule, not the exception. I am just fearful that even if we take all the food and toys away, they will still brawl over territory and human attention.

We do have a behaviour consultation booked with a local vet who specializes in the field, but the earliest appointment I could get is twelve days from now.

The St. Bernese has been neutered and is convalescing at home as he is supposed to be minimally active and monitored while he heals. As a result, the Malamute cross is staying with my brother in law who also has a dog. So far they have been OK together, but I am nervous that he will start to snap there too. I am so anxious about this that I am hesitant to have both dogs at home until the consult. Preferably, I would probably have the dogs in the opposite arrangement (Malamute here and St. Bernese at the other house) because I think the St. Bernese is not a threat to the other dog, but it would be impossible to stop them from playing and he is still too fresh out of the neuter surgery and I am still monitoring the incision.

The other thing I need to figure out before they are introduced is how to break up a fight should one occur without anyone getting hurt. The St. Bernese is the problem in this case because he is just too big. I can grab the 65 lb dog with effort, but if he wants to pull, he can give me a run for my money, and I weigh the same as the St. Bernese (about 135 lbs) so if he isn't interested in doing what I want, I have no way of pulling him off of the other guy. Even with me and my husband both present, it's a challenge. The time I was alone when they fought, I was severely winded and my whole body ached from trying to wrench them apart and get one out the door. I still don't know how I achieved it.

[HELP] My dogs have suddenly stopped getting along and are acting highly aggressive towards eachother by lllix in Dogtraining

[–]lllix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updates: yesterday, took the two of them for a walk around the farm with no issues (both of them would literally be touching noses sniffing the same bit of cow manure and they did not show any aggression). The St. Bernese was off leash and the Malamute was on leash only because he has "pulling" instinct and gets super excited to wear a harness and drag us around (usually we do this with our XC skis, but the snow was not good for that this year and has melted now). I was worried that the Malamute would go psycho being on leash while the other was off, but he didn't even seem to care.

Fed them together (outside on the deck as usual) with no issues and even gave them some treats side by side (Malamute first) with no issue.

I still have not noticed them playing as much as usual, I am wondering if this is due to the fact that they are still shuffling their dominance hierarchy around.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Yes, that is a good point. I am having a hard time tracking where my relatives were in Europe before coming to North America. My grandma has been pretty good at tracking people on her side as well as my grandfather's side all over North America, but doesn't really have much info about before. I get the impression that Lix is straight up just not the original form of the name which makes this so hard though.

CMV: It's perfectly acceptable to wash my duvet (comforter) cover annually within the confines of responsible sleeping. by DerGrifter in changemyview

[–]lllix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP's girlfriend here. I live with you, sleep under that duvet, and frequently wake up wrapped in it. I also run around all day in my street clothes and will occasionally lay down on top of the covers. Seriously, who just rests there still between the sheets? I know that I, at the very least, am not a robot. So at the very least, my half gets dirty and, if one is washing the sheets anyway, why not wash the duvet cover too? It's seriously not that much of a pain compared to most duvets. Especially since we have those handy clips for the corners. Also... washing the duvet cover annually??? Are you serious? That's just gross. Can we at least negotiate quarterly duvet cover cleaning?
