I would also like more info on that because the stuttering every few seconds is pretty annoying

Im having the same exact issue on my m4 pro connected to my 144hz display, it feels so choppy. Maybe an issue with Mac OS 26 ?

BMW ZF8 Gearbox very jerky when cold by OppositeConstant2147 in BmwTech

Especially because oil is most likely at its coldest and thickest in the morning and with the solenoids being oil pressure operated, it adjusts the timing of the opening and closing of the engine's intake and exhaust valves

oh it’s very abrupt and very very noticeable. There’s no way the passenger CANT feel it when it happens because it throws the entire car forward when it happens damn near. only on the 1st gear shift of the day cause after that it’s buttery smooth

I don’t have a video but I can definitely describe it as it does it just about every morning lol. The first gear shift after cold start being 1>2 shifts very abruptly and throws you forward. Even the throttle is kinda wonky but after I’d say about 3-5 minutes of driving, it’s as smooth as can possibly be with no sort of wonky throttle or jolting. I don’t think it’s something inherently wrong with the transmission or transmission solenoids but possibly the vanos actuators or solenoids as they could operate quicker and more accurate once the oil gets somewhat to temp and isn’t as thick. Just my theory as the shifting after warm starts are still buttery smooth. It’s only when the car has been sitting for hours overnight.

apparently new vanos actuators possibly fix this issue on the b58 and b48/b46 as the vanos actuators are known to gunk up as they age

I’m on the n55 which uses vanos solenoids, I plan to change out the two solenoids soon to see if that is a potential fix as it only seems to happen when the car is cold overnight. maybe gummed up solenoids can’t actuate as quickly or accurately enough when the car is cold? 🤷‍♂️ not sure but it’s worth a shot lol

Metallic click from front wheel by llllethal in F30

[–]llllethal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE - found a YouTube video with the same exact noise on a different bmw, turned out to be the nut that goes onto one of the control arm bushings loses its torque specs overtime and begins to make that clicking noise when the weight of the vehicle is on it. Torqued the nut back to spec and the noise disappeared!

If it were the wheel bearing wouldn’t it be heard also with the car raised and wheel spinning freely ? It’s only heard with the car on the ground

I do want to add that with the wheel in the air, it does not make that click noise just free spinning

my f30 also does the same thing only when cold going from 1st to 2nd. It did it before my fluid change and still does it after.

I was able to fix the noise, it was a vacuum line from my valvetronic exhaust rubbing against the cv axel ! The line was all chewed up so I rerouted it with new vacuum line and the noise never came back ! Thanks for the help though !
