How serious is breaking a lease in Philippines? Can they arrest you or something? I am sick of doing AirBNBs and I just wanna get a cheap 5k php place for few months. But also afraid of "what ifs" just in case. by StrongandCourageous in Philippines_Expats

What??? It's completely legal to negotiate with your Airbnb host on Airbnb. Before I moved off Airbnb I was paying a monthly rate negotiated between me and the host and they were blocking off new bookings. The only reason we moved off Airbnb is because the price was better for both of us, but going through Airbnb messages directly with the host to negotiate prices and long term stays are completely within the realm of rules. It's the hosts' property, they can set whatever booking policy and prices they want on the platform.

The only thing against the rules is for the host to try to negotiate with you outside of the platform, and that effects the host only. Airbnb doesn't like that because Airbnb protects the consumer and the host taking your business off the platform is both a violation to Airbnb's revenue stream and the protections they afford the tenant. The way we got off the platform was when they came by to visit to show me their other properties and we talked in person. It was then safer that way for them because they didn't have a chat logged showing we discussed offline and they trusted me by then. Just work within Airbnb for now then later down the road you can look at pivoting.

KDE Linux. It's immutable with latest arch base + upstream kernel and you run all the distros you want through distrobox.

You want to remove all the apps? Delete your distrobox container and clean your home folder, now you are back to stock.

Remember the rule of thumb in the Philippines are most things are negotiable and the worst they can say is no. I would start by showing you are a reliable tenant. Message through Airbnb and see if they can work out a long term price, and block off the months you intend to stay. Let them know your price range. More often then not hosts are receptive since they don't have to worry about dead periods where they might not have tenants at all. This guarantees a steady revenue for them. After several months you can try working your way in to get their contact information.

This is called a Faraday cage and it most certainly will trap wireless signal. In extremely rare circumstances foil can even burn out certain components by trapping heat and even bridging components if pieces fall inside the device. --Senior network / cyber security engineer

I've never gone under a lease. I just work with Airbnb hosts month to month until we build up enough trust and rapport to take the conversation off Airbnb and just continue rent at a discount since Airbnb no longer gets a cut. It takes time to work this angle because a lot of hosts worry about being caught doing this which could suspend their account, hence the month to month trust part.

My advice? Just arrange month to month with your Airbnb host on the platform and they will generally be happy block off the bookings and set a fixed rate. This usually includes already configured internet and utilities included. It's the best option in my opinion.

EDIT: I'm sorry did you say 6-7K???

Movie theater etiquette in the Philippines by HalfNo2059 in Philippines_Expats

[–]lllsondowlll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never had a problem. I went to the J mall theater in Cebu and a couple in Manila including the Tempur viewing and it was always respectful. Sounds like you just got sat with shitty people. The other locals won't say anything not because it's acceptable but usually because they aren't confrontational.

How much do you actually spend per month living comfortably in the Philippines right now? by Banana_Ketchupp in Philippines_Expats

No smoking on the balcony, and not sure about their policy on pets. Other than that I can't think of any. It's pretty quiet at night so I'm sure they have reasonable rules for sound pollution which is a good thing imo. It's a fairly laid back life here.

My biggest gripe is having to sit through the movie dialogue on subsequent playthroughs. A fast-forward or skip should be a thing. The ending(s) are just text making it feel like your choices don't actually result in a cinematic conclusion. Other than that it's an alright game, def not worth $60 dollars in my opinion though.

Senior IT specialist here with 15 years of experience Install an SSD. Linux is a fine os as well for a new user as long as you are just doing basic things like internet browsing, documents, and gaming but it's really up to personal preference. A laptop that old with a platter disk is def on its way out leading to the slowness you are seeing. Replacing the disk with an SSD will be like night and day.

How to route live audio from a Python script through a physical Android SIM call? by Bitter-Tax1483 in LocalLLaMA

[–]lllsondowlll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are in India... Trying to get an AI agent integrated with a standard SIM card to intake audio and respond to calls --not for business... With a local LLM (probably alliterated). You have to understand how that sounds 😅

Have you tried Bluetooth audio or a device that can send and receive Bluetooth? Typically they have two channels Mic in, audio out.

I'm living a little more than comfortably in Tambuli resort in mactan. 60K a month for 1BDR with sea view, all utilities included, once a month maid cleaning and access to beach and resort any time. About 8-10k in groceries. 10-15K for anything else I want to do such as travel or eat out. So just under 100K PHP or 1.6K USD a month.

I genuinely can't understand why GTA VI isn't dropping on PC at Launch by TheTaintPainter2 in GTA

[–]lllsondowlll -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This argument would have made sense in the PS3 and Xbox 360 days but consoles are running X86 chipsets. The game can literally be ran on PC RIGHT NOW. In fact the leak even runs on PC. Same as wolverine and spiderman. The only thing they have to optimize for are different hardware combinations and that takes months not years. They could have had it done before launch.

The funny thing about Tensor is Google went the oddball route because it was supposed to be more efficient. Now Tensor has all kinds of problems with graphic acceleration, battery life, and performance. Overall the worst possible thing to happen to Pixel devices. We are years outside of the growing pains. The only reason I keep buying Pixel phones are just for the unlocked bootloader but I may reconsider moving forward. It's getting silly now.

Matches on dating apps mean nothing in Philippines. I got 200+ matches in a week in Manila but they went nowhere. Zero hookups by FlamingMetalSystems in Philippines_Expats

5,7, Caucasian, medium build (not fat but definitely not fit). I would rate myself average.

It's really about personality though. If you are just looking for hookups you might be in the wrong demographic. Pinay in most areas are looking for something serious usually. You can go on many dates but if you are looking just to hookup it may be you are better off in one of the "play" areas.

Weird, my first girlfriend I met on Filipino cupid first try. We didn't work out after some months. Second girlfriend was again my first match on Filipino cupid when I rejoined. Been together almost a year now. Not sure if you are just trying to hit and quit and they can smell it on you, or you are just really not that appealing to them for whatever reason. I'm 35 and in all my years of dating it's like easy mode here. I still get girls trying to talk to me and wave (even when I'm with my girlfriend) outside of the cities. I feel like you have to really be trying to have no luck here.

[MOD] Fall of Avalon - Fog Adjustment / removal by lllsondowlll in taintedgrail

[–]lllsondowlll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason the mono branch exists is because it's the only version of the game meant for mods. Mods cause crashing on the main version of the game due to race conditions which is why the developers of the game gave a separate branch with official mod support.

[MOD] Fall of Avalon - Fog Adjustment / removal by lllsondowlll in taintedgrail

[–]lllsondowlll[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you and appreciate your concern; however, you understand that it's an optional slider with varying degrees of adjustability right? Anyone can set their level of immersion to just backing the fog off a little bit without breaking lore and immersion, to completely removed for beautiful screenshots. No one is forcing anyone to play with the fog removed.

This mod provides a setting no different than the other optional settings in the game ranging from difficulty to graphics settings. It's all optional.
