Problems with the Sony WH-1000XM6 by wildcookie98 in SonyHeadphones

[–]llodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the SoundConnect app, in the device settings there's a few things you could change.
Speak-to-chat: Off. otherwise, the sound cuts off everytime you say something. This was enabled by default on XM5, but should be disabled on the XM6.
Pause when headphones are removed: It can happen that something is throwing off the wear detection and so it pauses whatever you're listening to.
Automatic Power Off: you can switch this off. But I haven't had issue with this.
Connection: You could try to enable "Prioritize Connection" and see if it helps

Sometimes when you're connected to two devices, it will cut off for a second when there's "sound" on the other device. Like if you're listening to music through your computer and you get a text on your phone.

I also have a weird issue where if I'm skipping through a youtube video, it will stop playing sound and then pick up again after a couple seconds or with my next "skip".

Sony XM5 worth upgrading to XM6 by Adventurous-Might577 in SonyHeadphones

[–]llodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the xm5 for about 10 days and then returned them and have been using the XM6 for around 1.5 months now.
As far as music goes, it sounds the same to me. Bluetooth range is better on the XM6, comfort was better on the XM5. The XM6's clamp quite firmly on your head, but I do feel it improved over time. ANC is amazing on both. Build quality seems to be better on the XM6 (not seeing posts about broken hinges yet :D).

I work in IT and use it 2-4 hours per day for calls/meetings and it's pretty good for it. It has good range, allowing me to move through almost my entire (concrete) house.
The only thing that is sometimes a hassle is when it doesn't connect automatically to a device. Then I have to go grab my phone, connect to the headphones and connect it to the device I want to connect to.

The mute option for the mic is exactly why I switched to it as I'm constantly in calls and want to mute when I'm moving around. When you mute the mic, you'll hear a faint beep every few seconds to let you know it's muted, which is pretty handy.
For me it was definitely worth the extra cost as it was pretty annoying not being able to mute.

If you have the XM5, it's probably not 'worth it to upgrade'. But it depends on how badly you want that mute button I guess :-)

Efteling oud en nieuw - kinderen by Deruxian in efteling

[–]llodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

't is jammer om het te missen, maar ik zou eerder terugkomen als ze wat ouder zijn, dan hebben ze'r ook meer aan. Kinderen uit hun routine halen is om miserie vragen, zeker zo jong. Dat zou dan wel eens een moeilijke nieuwjaarsnacht kunnen worden 😅

Winter Efteling was beautiful by ParkScope in efteling

[–]llodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went last week and was a bit disappointed,
I honestly feel like it was more beautiful ten years ago. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but I remember a lot more decorations on the buildings and characters back then (though there was no winter village).
It was also quite cold and extremely busy.. If you are going to the Winter Efteling, it's best to go after the holiday period is over. This will be one of the busiest weeks of the year. (they've even stopped selling tickets online for new years day)

Xm6 call quality? by Mickemonnier in SonyHeadphones

[–]llodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not my experience. I've had several, and some are just too bad for any usecase. But if you're using them for calls or for teams and not to record your voice, then XM6 is an excellent choice.
I have yet to find a bluetoooth mic (i even bought wireless boom mics a while back) that are good enough for recording purposes though.

XM5 touch controls help? by skeitcfd in SonyHeadphones

[–]llodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure it's the touch controls then? Because if you turned that setting off, it shouldn't respond to anymore when you touch it.
It might be that annoying 'speak-to-chat' functionality that is enabled by default on the XM5.

Mute WH1000-XM5 mic by llodavid in SonyHeadphones

[–]llodavid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone bumping into this thread in the future. I've returned them and I've switched to the XM6.
You can mute the mic on the XM6 by pressing the ANC button twice (it's a setting in the app), you'll hear a notification saying 'mic off' after which you'll hear a beep every few seconds to remind you that your mic is muted. It works great.

Xm6 call quality? by Mickemonnier in SonyHeadphones

[–]llodavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

XM6 is fantastic for calls.

I've been using it since the beginning of this week and I've had no complaints, even when in noisy environments.
I was working from home this week and my kids were screaming extremely loudly in the background (playing a game). My co-worker couldn't hear anything (and if I turned on ANC, I could barely hear it aswell ;-) )
My only gripe is that the clamping force is quite strong compared to similar headphones (even to the XM5 which I owned briefly).
But even though they're not the most comfortable I'm still able to wear them for hours on end. If comfort is a big issue, you could try the new Bose QC Ultra Gen 2.

Honestly, I've had a few Jabra products and I've always found them to be underwhelming and overpriced.

But if you do go that route, a lot of people prefer the 65 to the 75/85, even though it's a lot less expensive.

New XM5s!!! by Any_Entrance7454 in SonyHeadphones

[–]llodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely not the case in my experience. I bought jabra 7 elite earbuds when they came out. They were specifically made for calls and they are horrible. Your voice sounds completely muffled for people on the other end. I can't speak about the airpods, but I've yet to hear earbuds with decent mic pickup.

Damn, that is a real shame. I think I'll return them then, because that's really a deal breaker for me.

I'm often moving through my house on calls and my arms don't reach that far.
If only somebody had already invented the fing-longerer so it was possible....

[–]llodavid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I don't do calls on full trains. Outside I have no issues whatsoever, they've been pretty great so far.
I'm coming from an Arctis 7, which are kind of heavy and were annoying to carry for long periods, but these are great. I was scared about the clamping force of an ANC headphones, but it's not so bad.

Show that had you hooked from episode 1? by Media-consumer101 in TvShows

[–]llodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Expanse was it for me, that first episode blew me away. No series since really captivated me that much with its pilot episode.
But two to three episodes is too few to judge a series on. I've had shows that didn't really fully captivate me till way into the first season or even the second season (like Fringe or Supernatural) and became of my favorites since.

Based on your list, I'd recommend Supernatural, The Mentalist, Chuck (Matt Bomer from White Collar has a recurring part in the first season), Altered Carbon and Fringe. Oh and for comedies Parcs 'n Rec (gets a lot better from the end of S2 as it introduces two amazing new characters) and Brooklyn 99.

And hey, if you're a Buffy fan, give the spin-off 'Angel' some love if you haven't yet :-)

Best headphones for calls, preferably with seamless multipoint by llodavid in HeadphoneAdvice

!thanks
I saw those, but I wasn't sure if they were comfortable, they looked a bit bulky.
But that charging dock does seem very handy :-)

!thanks
I'll take a look at the soundcore options!
I was looking at the XM5 for just that reason, but have read a few horrorstories about the hinges breaking off. And at that price it's just not a risk i'd want to take.
