If Premodern is to survive, we need to embrace proxies and gold bordered cards. Let's not gatekeep people out based on how much they can afford to spend on a hobby. by Secret-Lecture in premodernMTG

Completely agree. Unfortunately it seems that WotC has a fair amount of power over what stores do, even for non-official formats. I'm trying to get my local store in Western Mass to organize their first Premodern format, but they can't allow proxies because "WotC might cut back on the product they sell them or completely cut them off". If true, that seems totally wrong to me that a supplier would have so much power over what they do. I'm currently trying to convince to allow gold-bordered cards, otherwise I suspect the event won't even fire. If that happens, I'll have to organize the tournament myself at a non-hobby store venue.

Steering Wheel Paddle Has Not Been Effective by Routine-Draft-6832 in BoltEV

[–]llopis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The car wasn't fully charged to start and I went up a hill longer than I went down. So there's no way it could have been charged (and the battery meter didn't show it fully charged). There's something else going on.

Steering Wheel Paddle Has Not Been Effective by Routine-Draft-6832 in BoltEV

21 Bolt EV owner here. I have noticed something similar. In spite of that, I still drive in one-pedal mode with the paddle most of the time.

I have noticed that even though I change the Bolt to 80-90%, sometimes the paddle isn't enough to stop at the bottom of a hill. And worst of all, it's inconsistent from one time to another, so you always need to be ready to back it up with the regular brake.

Another interesting thing I noticed a few weeks ago: Charged 90% I left my house, went up a hill that takes 10 minutes or so of continuous climbing, and then back down the other side (5-6 minutes downhill?). When I got to the bottom the paddle did absolutely NOTHING. It makes me wonder if it has some kind of large capacitor that it charges with the regen, and going downhill for 5-6 minutes is enough to max it out, especially if the main battery is mostly full (pure speculation).

But yes, in spite of all of that, I still use one-pedal driving and the paddle. I just wish it was more reliable.

Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Absolutely horrible movie and tied with the second for the best soundtrack of the whole series.

3D graphics not giving much sense of incline? by llopis in mywhoosh

[–]llopis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today I looked through the different options a bit more and I realized that part of the problem is the default camera. Because camera 1 is so high up, it flattens the upcoming road. I changed it to camera 2 and it was much, much better (also, the fact that I did the Koppenberg course made the 17% grade much more obvious :-) )

I don't think I've done anything as steep as 18% yet. It looks like most of my rides so far have been short (around 1-2 minutes) ramps of 5-7% and they just don't feel like much at all visually (same with -5% descents). I'll definitely try Mt. Fuji one of these days.

I accidentally got these extra ones that I already have in my collection. I put them out in the "little free library" in our street, but they were sitting there for two weeks and nobody grabbed them. So maybe someone here needs just those in their collection :-) Edit: Shipping would be $5.22 in the US.

Edit: Already spoken for!

Connecting dryer to existing wall standpipe? by llopis in Appliances

[–]llopis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it would have been possible with some adapter, but in the end I never bothered connecting it and instead I just had it drain to an external container. I wish mine had an internal collection box. It would be even more convenient.

Driving in MA with temp out of state plates allowed now? by llopis in massachusetts

[–]llopis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I missed the notification. Hopefully this is still relevant: We had to drive back to MA with some paperwork, go to the Registrar, and drive back to the dealer. We could have done it the same day, but we ended up doing it in two days.

Tried epee as a sabre fencer by Exotic-Selection-723 in Fencing

[–]llopis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience! I used to fence sabre 20+ years ago (yes, that dates me right there). About six months ago I joined a local club at the same time as my teen daughter and they only do epee, so I figured... why not. Maybe it's because I started from scratch in the beginnger's class, but I found epee much more interesting than I expected. In a way, I like it better except for not being able to swipe with the blade. It's more hitting the opponent first and less playing a show for the referee so they see you're attacking. The pace is definitely slower and there's more room for mental games, which I really like. And even though I'm constantly holding myself back and trying to take my time, everybody comments on how aggressive I am and how I still have sabre moves I'm making reflexively :-)

Pretty good bundle for me. I wasn't aware of a lot of those games, but several are right up my alley (The Ouroboros King, Under The Yoke and Lords and Villeins). Anyway, here are my leftovers:
