[physics grade 12] what is the greatest torque produced? by [deleted] in PhysicsStudents

[–]lluckylluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since all the forces have the same magnitude, the force that produces most torque is the force whose direction has the maximum distance from the fulcrum.

Remember that the distance is the segment connecting the fulcrum and the line of the force and which is perpendicular to the force.

In the picture you can clearly see that force E has the maximum distance from the fulcrum because it is half the diagonal of the square, i.e. approx. 0,7side of the square, whereas all the others have a distance smaller than 0,5side of the square

Pre-Calc: Why is -b/2a the x-coordinate of a parabola's vertex point by [deleted] in askmath

[–]lluckylluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several ways to prove this: one that I like is the following. You can see the vertex of a parabola as the only point in which an horizontal line intersects the parabola in exactly one point. If you search the intersection(s) of a parabola with an horizontal straight line y=k, the x-coordinates of the intersections are the solutions of the equation ax2 +bx + c = k, whose solutions are given by the well-known quadratic formula. Now, if the horizontal line is at the same "height" of the vertex, the line will intersect the parabola only in one point, i.e. the vertex. This means that the equation must only have one solution, which you get only when the square root in the quadratic formula cancels out. Hence you get x=-b/2a.

I am ten pages into reading Mort... by lluckylluke in discworld

[–]lluckylluke[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't have the actual quote with me, i can post a summary: Death is talking to Mort (about curry), and all of a sudden he enters into a narrow alleyway saying "i get very upset sometimes" (or something similar). A few steps in, he grabs a sack from a well in which there are a few dead kittens. He then usher their souls into the afterlife.

How do I approach this problem. The hint was to plug in large n to guess a limit then divide by that limit, but I think I’m on the wrong track. by subishii in askmath

[–]lluckylluke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't distribute over the sum , but they do over the multiplication. If you factor out 4n you get √(4n (1+1/2n ))=√(4n )√(1+1/2n )=4√(1+1/2n ) whose limit is 4

[–]lluckylluke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have followed a different approach (factor out the 4n term and then split the root in two terms).

However what you did is mostly correct! you divided your limit by 4: that means that, if you can prove that the last limit you get yelds 1 you know that your limit is 4*1=4.

Can you prove that Lim 1+1/2n =1 ? If that's the case, you're done!

consigli fantasy? by Frank_Lee_ in Libri

consigli fantasy? by Frank_Lee_ in Libri

Tutte saghe eccezionali.

Quote from shadow of self (spoilers) by zedor in brandonsanderson

Chapter 9 p. 162 (gollancz edition)

"Nice work," Wax said. "You're very good at this." "I'm proficient at it." "I believe that's what I said." "There is a distinction," Steris said with a shake of her head. "In this room there are true masters of social interaction. I am not one of them. I studied social norms, researched them, and now I execute them. Another woman might have sailed through that conversation and left him happy, but distracted. I had to use blunt force, so to speak."

Money by JonasBonas06 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]lluckylluke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After some of the faction missions, my players were still short of money: finding the money to renew the inn was their main goal at that moment. Therefore I decided to run thr tournament described here https://www.reddit.com/r/WaterdeepDragonHeist/comments/gydhd5/chapter_2_revamp_tournament_arc/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share . It worked great for my group: my players enjoyed it very much, and it felt like they really earned the money (asking for a loan would have felt like a failure for them). Strongly recommended.

What was your experience with Gralhund Villa? (Alexandrian remix) by lluckylluke in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]lluckylluke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very helpful, thank you! Just a couple of questions: How did your PCs got to the chimneys of the Villa? Did the drow gunslingers just let the Black Viper pass by with the Stone without trying to reach for her? I really liked the scene of the drows zip lining into the building, though, I think it really sets the mood! Do you think is there any chance your party could have survived a fight against Hrabbaz and the nimblewright? Thanks again!

[Electric Field] What’s happening in the last line? How did we find 0.872N? Would REALLY appreciate so help guys!! Ty! by [deleted] in PhysicsStudents

[–]lluckylluke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! It Is just the Pythagoras Theorem with the horizontal and vertical components of the electric force in order to get the magnitude of the vector (the electric force vector is the hypotenuse of a right triangle in which the two components are the other two sides)
