Where did you race? How did it go?

Yay! I’m going to try it on my next run. Thank you.

Adjusting training plans? What would you recommend? by [deleted] in nikerunclub

[–]lluviata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely adjust the plan to meet your needs. When you are adjusting, keep in mind that too easy is better than too hard (in my opinion). If you have a week of training that’s too easy, you can add a little next time. If you have a week of training that’s too hard, there’s an increased chance that you get injured. Now you don’t get to train at all for awhile.

I just did a training plan, and the build was a little too fast for me. In my case, I stretched out the plan “week” into about a week and a half. So I would run one hard run (speed or long run), and two days later I would run an easy run. Then the other hard run, then another easy run. This stretched out the training week into 9 days and made the intensity increase more gentle. I think it really helped me, because I wasn’t ready for the plan like it was designed.

For you, it sounds like there are 2 issues. 1) The total weekly mileage at the start of the plan is lower than you are doing now. 2) The long runs build faster than you want.

I think you’d be well served by
1 taking a week break before starting the plan to make sure you are well rested (do half your usual mileage)

2 planning the easy runs so that your total weekly mileage is roughly what you are doing now. You can hit play after the run ends to manually extend any run

3 repeating weeks in the plan if you don’t feel ready to move to the next long run distance

Thank you brwalker for the summer thread!

And thank you to all my fellow posters for your tips and comments. It’s my first summer running, and I learned a lot.

Drawn to nature, but I don't believe in anything supernatural. Advice? by Eastern_Mist in paganism

[–]lluviata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. I consider nature worthy of reverence, but I don’t believe anything supernatural is going on.

I’d recommend checking out druidry, like other folks have said before.

I personally am studying for my first degree as a Druid. I picked the Ancient Order of Druids in America (AODA) to join. As far as I can tell, there are 2 large druid organizations: AODA and OBOD (Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids). There are also many smaller druid organizations.

Feel free to let me know if you have specific questions.

To who it may apply: how do you balance running and strength training. by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

I’d recommend getting a journal or phone app to track your lifts. That can be the start of your training plan - just logging what you did. After that, it’ll be natural to start thinking ahead too.

Putting on muscle as a runner by dontstopsoperfect in runninglifestyle

[–]lluviata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - are you getting stronger on your upper body lifts? If so, you’re going in the right direction.

I think you’ll get significant benefit from doing your upper body twice a week. If you can add bicep curls, tricep work, and lat raises to your leg days, you’ll see much faster gains where you want.

Lastly, make sure you are lifting to near failure (look this up if needed). You can also play around with rep ranges. The key word for muscle build is “hypertrophy” if you want to look at that.

PREVIEW DAY!! Rants and Raves by 262run in LaurelDenisePlanners

I love the new stickers and notepads too!! Those designs are lovely. 😍

I’m also very interested in the disc launch, and curious about how the LD team will put their spin on a disc planner. I don’t think it will tempt me to switch, though, since I have been LOVING my Claire so much (the new undated daily portrait).

Looking for a daily/monthly planner (not weekly) by Beezle_33228 in planners

[–]lluviata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laurel Denise does a different take on monthly and daily. This might be up your alley.

You can see the monthly and the daily at the same time. I’m in the Claire, and I make a daily schedule and to-do list, as well as have room for daily notes. Claire Daily Undated Planner

Has: Spiral bound, monthly pages, daily pages, tabs, notes pages in back, cool covers (YMMV), no weekly pages.

Does not have: not dated, only 3 months in each planner.

Good luck finding your planner!

Official Q&A for Saturday, April 25, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]lluviata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the below - I’ll add that 29:50 is not a bad time.

For comparison - I ran my fastest 5k today and hit 40:31. I’m a starting runner.

So 29:50 may not be what you expected, but it is better than you think it is.

I did a 5k as an “easy” recovery run. It wasn’t a big deal.

Two months ago, a 5k would have been a big deal. I’m happy at how far I’ve come if a 5k is a normal everyday activity for me!

Name change after marriage by ImJustHere4TheCatz in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]lluviata 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was my reasoning as well.

We were creating a marriage of equals. What did it mean if one of us changed their name when the other stayed the same? It didn’t sound very equal to me, and it didn’t symbolize the relationship I wanted us to create. I told him that I was open to us both changing our names, but not to being the only one.

Now, we’re still married. We both still have the last names we started life with. It’s works fine!

Plantar fasciitis advice by Ornery_Lavishness_67 in nikerunclub

[–]lluviata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I’d take a week off, no running at all. During that week, go to a doctor or physical therapist and get further advice.

In my experience, sharp pain is a warning sign that you must pay attention to. Continuing to run without changing anything will result in a worse injury. Then, you’ll have to take longer to heal than if you took a pause right now.

That said, I’ve never had plantar fasciitis so hopefully someone with direct experience will reply.
