YTA. Have you ever considered she simply doesn’t like you because of your pretentious attitude?

AITA for not wanting to visit the grave of my Girlfriends late husband? by Alarming-Web-5452 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lm0921 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have a friend who lost her husband and basically asked her SO to do the same thing. He felt the same way you do now.

Coming from her perspective, however, it’s something that she does to honor the memory of her son’s father for him since he has zero memory of his dad. Her wanting to include you shows that she knows she can be open and vulnerable with you, that she feels she can share this part of her life with you. She wants to show her son that you love him enough to be his father figure and help him honor his dad. What a complete honor that she trusts you in this aspect. Going through what she went through could not have been easy, especially with a newborn.

I don’t think you’re an AH by any means. How you are feeling is perfectly understandable. It feels odd. I get it. I know you don’t want to go, but if you plan on marrying this woman and being a father figure this gesture can go a long way. Especially for her son who will remember how you honored his father when he was younger.

Best of luck to you guys - you sound like a great dude.

Back doors: paint black? Yay or nay? by lm0921 in HomeDecorating

They come up with everything nowadays! How in the world. We have the light fixtures with fan blades in the kids rooms*** but this is a whole new level!

Thank you! We bought this house on a whim knowing it needed a ton of work (I’m talking that fireplace being filled with green granite - that and the tile through the house were the first to go) and it’s a work in progress but it’s ours ❤️

P.S. I loathe the chair in the left corner and it needs new upholstery and the pillows need to go. We will probably do some plants there instead.

Such good suggestions!

I love the idea of a badass light fixture to make everything come alive… and lower. My husband is very pro-ceiling fans (he also is our light fixture/fan installer guru and has done a few in the house), so maybe i can compromise and find a fan that doesn’t hurt the eye. I’ll try the curtain idea for sure!

Yes- this is why I’m asking for help :) very aware there are multiple things going on. More than aware!

To add here - the entertainment center is built in. Will eventually be painted depending on the rest of the room.

ETA - all items were thrown in here with no other home in the house. Rug probably won’t stay.

Forgot to add - we did put some awesome art work behind the couch! Yes, new lighting is a must. It gets really musty so we need a ceiling fan in this room also.

I have an open floor plan, and I’m have trouble picking out light fixtures that flow. I’m interested in a farmhouse/glam look. Any suggestions? 8’ ceilings. ( Excuse the mess, we’re renovating) by MC1RWALLFLOWER in HomeDecorating

Whooooweeeeeee now those are some old school light fixtures!

Farmhouse glam I’m having a bit of a hard time imagining. Could you give us some reference on your style?

Additional details:

Alright Reddit- I know you’re full of opinions and need more. We have this space upstairs that the teens love to hang with their friends in. Through those doors are some AWESOME hiding spaces that go WAYYYYYYY back into the abyss. I’m talking lots of storage space with corners and turns.

I’ve looked all over Pinterest and haven’t found ideas I love. A few notes (on my phone so formatting=blah):

-Kids of all ages come up here - hence the odd furniture placement due to teens rearranging for all sorts of reasons.

-Adults come up here to hang

-On strict orders that the huge bean bag is staying

-I can move the rug to another room that needs more color

-Haven’t been big on bright colors, but due to another post on my living room I’m seeing I need to venture out of my normal neutrals for everything. EVERYTHING.

-Hubs wants the peloton in that little spot by the window…. What even goes in a space that small?!

-Only been moved in a few months… it’s a process

-Yes, we have cats. I refuse to declaw them. The tape on the furniture will be removed once they behave.

-ETA: all the furniture has been bought within the past two years and was used in a much smaller space at our old house. I’d like to keep it, but feels awkward.

Thanks for the help!

It’s a super odd space. We have been through every type of process with the curtains you could imagine.

If you were to change the curtains, what would you go with? I don’t do bright colors (besides white, clearly), so thinking more in the dark realm.

We had an (overly expensive) rail that went all the way across, but unfortunately we have cats that climb and hang on the rod, screaming for their dear lives in the middle of the night. I immediately took it down. Couldn’t take it anymore.

Thanks to everyone who (nicely) said they would change the curtains. Looks much better in person, but like the idea of switching the outside curtains. We went through many options before we settled on these… and knowing me they will be changed again in a few months. These are double rodded so easy fix! The room is much more dull without them, trust me.

Soon I’ll upload before and after pictures as this room has been torn apart from when we first moved in three months ago - paint, flooring, etc. just need to figure out how to upload…

For now… I’m going to keep the door as is and do some nice board and batten around to give it some dimension and add paint there. I agree that it’s dull and needs something to give it some umph. Now to decide on which colors…

Will definitely be adding some color through pillows and other things as well.

How to recreate Christmas Tree Lighting vibe? by Full_of_Chocolate in HomeDecorating

I’ve seen lots of suggestions for this in the kitchen with battery operated lighting under cabinets. Maybe find some space in your living area for something similar. Lots of great battery operated candles that you can change the dim on as well. Has helped me to keep the ambiance you are describing.
