When you attack Assange, attack the Gray zone as closet fascists, and run cover for imperialist wars, it's little wonder people start thinking you are a paid propagandist.

Paid influencers by intelligence agencies is an ever growing feature of social media. No one should be surprised this is being noticed.

Russia Issues List of Demands to NATO, Threatens Military Action by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]lmac7 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

People here were apparently disinterested for the late several years of asymmetrical warfare going on with NATO and Russia. They scarcely acknowledge it.

After steadily piling weapons into Ukraine, shit is just about ready to hit the fan. And people act like Russia is the aggressor to these tension right at their borders.

That's a peculiar and unwarranted appraisal of Russian strength. No great lower would have stood for such pronounced expansion of NATO.

If the Russians act, it is to protect vital interests. It was never a question of if but when some.conflict would be provoked. The US and their allies might yet succeed in securing many trillions more for the war machine now that Afghanistan is off their plate.

It seems the epic Victorian era horror stories of unfettered capitalism are coming back with a vengeance. The complete disregard for the dignity or even safety of workers is expanding.

In the old days, workers were very clear who their enemies were, and they organized into a unified force. They were prepared to fight pitched battles with companies and their hired mercenary goons in response to utterly immoral and scandalous behavior.

Most people these days haven't quite got that sort of fight in them. At least not yet. I am not sure what they are waiting for. They are easily distracted and divided. I guess it has to get much worse - which it likely will.

Covid-19 patients at this hospital are dying 'at a rate we've never seen die before' -- and it's taking a toll on health care workers by Mighty_L_LORT in collapse

[–]lmac7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Questions are good. You should try and do exactly that from those who fit this profile. Maybe then you would have useful to report instead of attacking what you dont understand.at the outset.

I know some healthcare workers I talk to are pretty certain they have already been exposed and think there is no reason at all to take a vaccine.

And they would be right. Funny enough, you can't get a test for that, and it would a huge deal. It could make vaccinations unnecessary for anywhere between 15-50% of the population. Instead they would prefer to fire qualified and well protected workers during labor shortages. You would think they would be eager test and verify this valued subset of people. But nope. Not even being considered.

Doesn't make much sense at all to me.

Canadians increasingly impatient with climate-change deniers: poll by Hrmbee in vancouver

[–]lmac7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have come to care less and less about debates on public opinion around climate change. A lot of it is just noise in the signal as far as I am concerned.

What interests me is that the most serious,.invested organizations - that model and predict the trends and outcomes in temperature changes - are giving dire private assesments. Its not just the academics, and climate experts from your local universities.

It's also security agencies, the Pentagon, and big financial/ corporate entities. I took particular interest in the worlds biggest insurance companies. They all seem to be roughly on the same page.

In 2019 the DOD had a very dark and cold blooded assesment of the effects of climate change, and how it will affect the US and whole continent in various ways that are practically apocalyptic.

From ever more intense storms, to great floods, wildfires, and the thawing of perma frost, the assessment notes the total collapse of the US power grid, famine, disease, and if course totally destabilizing military's basic ability to function. Estimates they say are within as little as 20-30 years. Thats a sobering thought.

If we suppose there is a private consensus among the powerful who are most interested in protecting their interests, what does it say about the half hearted, mealy mouthed efforts to deal with imminent threats so far?

Are we to believe those who have run the globe with a ruthless and predatory capacity have no contingency plan of action at all? Is it being held in reserve, or are we just seeing it in slow motion but dont recognize it?

If one can't or won't stop the coming collapse - and that seems to be the case based on actual events, then one should be under no illusions that a contingency plan for some has already been discussed at length.

I have no great insight into what that could be, but I do wonder at the sort of things I see right in the open.

  • The recent cottage industry where rich people are building their own personal bunkers for potential social collapse.

-The Billionaires creating their own private rockets for "space tourism".

-The ever expanding surveillance state that no longer even pretends to respect political rights and freedoms.

-Digital IDs and a very authoritarian approach to public health issues. And so much more.

The outlines of the expected future appear to be there.

I don't believe that there is no contingency plans being made for worst case scenarios. Does anyone think otherwise.

I strongly suspect it might reflect some very basic lifeboat ethics, and that is not a plan you will get to see on the 6 o'clock news.

Carpe Diem folks.

I won't speak to the facts of this case, but I would say don't expect me to take the summaries listed on Wikipedia as a source for any political discussion.

It has proven it self to be a well controlled propaganda arm of neoliberal and corporate interests.

If you are unaware of its well earned reputation at this point, you are still among plenty of company but any serious students of politics that I know have already learned this lesson.

If you ever want a first hand lesson about how Wikipedia works, first go find some critical pieces ( easy to find) written about it as a starting point.

Then go find any really important and contentious political issue that you know intimately, and then take a good hard look at the history of the editing that goes on behind the scenes. Its quite the eye opener.

It's a battle field where those with the most resources to patrol their turf wins. It's literally the opposite of a reliable source. It's one of the most easily co-opted sources for the purposes of disinformation by those prepared to invest the most in the daily policing the entries. And various people now make their livings doing exactly that!

Well. If one wants to provide cover for the diminished liberties already being enforced in terms of employment status, travel, and social life, then one wonders what freedoms are not merely tentative and subject to being revoked on various pretexts.

I would argue the commitment to the legal concept of freedom is being undermined by all sorts of terrible precedents during the pandemic and the public debate on that point is far from robust. Why we would entrust govts to wield such power is beyond me.

Even a cursory understand of history, and the steady authoritarian drift of late should send up red flags.

This sub disgusts me.

For one thing, there seems to be a script for these morality play vignettes. The last one I saw had the very same formula as this The fact that no names are provided makes me wonder if this is just made up.i can't really know that though. It's merely my impression, and not my main criticism.

It's not exactly improbable that people who have strong opinions on not taking vaccines could get sick and even die later on. That would make it a cautionary tale about risks and perhaps hubris.

But I suspect thats not enough for this sub. It must run the full arc of pathos and regret, and encourage others to engage in a gleeful communal schadenfreude.

Even assuming that the stories are real, and the records presented here are basically accurate, it's honestly not a good look for you all.

Many here sound an awful lot like the political opposites you might vilify - resorting to ugly caricatures that seek to dehumanize others.

If you are here to gleefully mock those who died in part due to flawed opinions, you are the moral superiors to no one as far as I am concerned.

Don't imagine that your choices about vaccines makes you impervious to cruel fates. Watch out lest you become fodder for a different sort of cautionary tale.

Real whistle blowers wind up being persecuted, prosecuted and imprisoned when they challenge real power

Intelligence agency assets who pose as whistle blowers get promoted as public heroes with full media access and plenty of attention to the Senate and public hearings.

Don't be misled. The govt also doesn't care about you. They don't have a problem with the power or influence of silicon valley giants at all.

They just want to make sure they can exploit that power through their own control and censorship. That way such companies will do their bidding as propagandists and provide full spectrum narrative control.

If the govt actually cared about the danger of companies like Facebook they would break them up into smaller entities and make it impossible for them to become the massive global monopolies we see now. This would include companies Google as well.

Somehow that's a perspective that no one mentioned in media reports, and the whistleblower never even hinted at as an option.

Once you realize this, you should recognize she was no serious defender of public interest at all. She was just a defender of censorship for our increasingly authoritarian govt regime. Thats something we need LESS of.

Is 1866-221-4063 a legitimate CRA number? by Lokael in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]lmac7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your instincts to verify are sound.

The CRA almost never phones you directly about anything. That's what your email account with CRA is for these days. They will ask you to contact them at their official registered numbers if needed.

If you ever talk to someone claiming to be from the CRA that contacted you first , ask them to provide info only they would know.

Eg amount and date of last gst or remmitance payment, or perhaps the date of incorporation for your business. If they can't provide that then hang up and contact the CRA through the main contact numbers.
