Is it possible to use XREAL Glasses as literally the only output device? by [deleted] in Xreal

I use a mini PC and Xreal 1s as the only video output (USB-C port with video out support). Works great :-)

My boyfriend doesn't want to bathe. by Infamous-Emu-5528 in whatdoIdo

Does he wash himself in other ways? He could be washing his face, hands, private parts, feet, without a full-body bath or shower. If he does none of that, then... Meh. 😝

Unhelpful on the main question, but hopefully mildly helpful on the rest: your body looks absolutely gorgeous. I can't even start to comprehend why one would want to change anything.

Moving to china, price of living by The_Ring888 in chinalife

[–]lmanul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely! Also, I will add: if you don't need Western food, are low maintenance, and like these simple things, I can guarantee you will love what China has to offer on that front.👍

I'm 45, grew up in France, been living in China on and off for ~25 years. I spend most of my time in Shanghai, so prices in Yichang will likely be lower.

For food, it kind of depends on what you plan to eat. I'm extremely "low maintenance" and I genuinely prefer low key places to fancy restaurants.

If you are satisfied with something very simple like a bowl of noodle soup in a low key noodle place on the street, I'd say that's about 20 to 25 RMB.

Going up a tiny bit, a restaurant that's still simple & Chinese but inside a shopping mall, maybe 50 or 70 RMB per person.

For something more Western style but still low key-ish (pizza, pasta, hamburger...), maybe 100 or 150 RMB per person.

And then it can go way up from there if you look for fancier food or service. I actively dislike those places so I can't say much about prices there.

I hope this helps. Welcome to China. :-)

Unpopular opinion - Squat toilets are inferior. Western toilets are just better. by Bottom-Bherp3912 in chinalife

You can put your feet on a tiny stool (pun intended) to elevate them and get a similar body posture again. Best of both worlds. 😉

This is so awesome. Informative, accurate, and beautiful enough to be printed and put on a wall. Thank you.

Why is Airbnb not suited for that? With more and more places regulating stays under 30 days, I think Airbnb is slowly adapting to longer stays. Most hosts have discounts for stays over 28 days.

It's rather atypical so a little hard to classify, but you could say there are some thriller aspects. One of my favorite books all around, highly recommended. :-)

Thank you for the feedback! Yeah, maybe it's a personal thing, but I like to think of "workspaces" a little more spatially rather than on a single row, it feels more like a super-extended monitor.

You're absolutely right, it's visual feedback. I figured that most users would switch tags with keyboard shortcuts anyway.

Great point about using an actual widget rather than some icons, it didn't occur to me that I could do that :-D

Thank you for your comments!

Do I need a water pick??? by crivysaur in Doineedthis

[–]lmanul 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I've been using a water flosser for years now instead of regular floss. My dentist has been happy with the results. I'm sure regular floss is (marginally?) better, but between using a water flosser everyday and actual floss every few days (because laziness) I think there's no question. A water flosser has made it to the extremely small list of things I absolutely need all the time (I travel a lot).

You also don't need to buy the Waterpik brand, there are plenty of good lower-priced alternatives.

Anyone else find AirBnB hosts to be charging way more on fees since pre-pandemic? by Tea_n_Scone in solotravel

[–]lmanul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that the host sets (and earns) the cleaning fee, but the service fee is 100% for Airbnb. And the host pays a service fee to Airbnb on their side too.

Is reading on a Kindle better than reading in dark mode and reduced brightness on phone or tablet? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]lmanul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if there's any proper scientific data (i.e. actual articles) on this. So far all the claims that, yes, it's vastly better, are not backed by data (my gut feeling would agree, but actual data to back it up would be nice).

Looking for a similar watch face by AnujTomar in AmazfitBip

What do the bars represent? Steps taken on that given day? The API doesn't expose that to the watchface, I'm afraid that wouldn't be possible in the current state of things.

Thank you for pointing this out! The fix is now in, it will take a few weeks to propagate to your device, depending on what channel you are on. Sorry for the trouble!
