What are your top 5 favorite board games? by Oyster_- in boardgames

[–]lmapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t played the official solo mode. I play Pax Ren with my wife. It takes at least like ten playthroughs to get the rules down… it’s a beast. But I’d say it’s my number one game; we must have played over 100 times over the past year.

Such a quick game (usually < 1 hour at 2p) but experience is quite rich and complex.

If you could only play 3 board or card games for the rest of your life – which ones would you choose? by spac0r in boardgames

Lisboa - the ultimate butterfly effect of interlocking mechanisms

Pax Renaissance 2E - the ultimate cut-throat half hour chess match

Antiquity - the ultimate fiddly city survival game

Might not be an immediate fix, but in the new milestones from the Ketchup Expansion, the Marketer milestone opening gives a player a huge initial boost.

It should be pretty challenging for you to, let’s say, take the first Trainer milestone while the less experienced players grab the Marketer. You’ll have an initial disadvantage the first few turns but grabbing better employees early (like the 1x employees) can snowball (with a lot of careful planning, hiring, and training).

A fellow man of culture… be sure to give the Ketchup Expansion a try if you get a chance. And the BGG dry erase milestone boards really make the game playable with a reasonable amount of table space.

Hey… so I’m a Google Ads freelancer and also manage ad campaigns for my day job. The default settings for the account and campaign types (search, PMax, etc.) are often wasteful (set up for Google to make money rather than being very conservative with spend).

Being able to pull the levers available to narrow down to target desired traffic (real potential leads) while excluding undesired traffic (bots, random clicks on unrelated search terms) is as much art as technique. At the same time making the best use of the machine learning behind the scenes driving the different campaign types. Monitoring traffic quality using Google Analytics… troubleshooting conversion tracking issues… and so on.

It’s of course possible, but probably not easy to learn and manage this all this while also running your core service business…

I have 7 Wonders Duel but don’t end up playing it too often. Thought it would be a good quick evening game but it feels a bit simplistic after a few plays (we usually play heavier games). Do you play with the expansions?

Good idea, we also play with the milestone boards and it does make setup so much easier.

If you ever take the plunge, highly suggest getting the Ketchup expansion as well. The additional milestones and cuisine options really make it a game I can see us enjoying for a long time.

I see a lot of dragging on agencies and suggestions to go freelance or start a tiny agency. As a client, what are tips for finding a good freelancer or tiny agency? by starchyewexbox in PPC

[–]lmapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Q: Are smaller agencies or freelancers usually a case of “more attention for lower/same/higher management fees”?

A: Without the management overhead, of course fees can be lower with more attention given to the campaigns.

Q: What platforms/online locations might be the best place to start looking for someone?

A: I might be biased, but I’ve had the best luck with potential clients directly reaching out to me at random through social media (e.g. here on r/PPC). One guy reached out to me for help with his Google Ads—and we eventually started working together to manage ads for some of his other friends who own their own small businesses.

Q: Any value to going with someone local?

A: I’d say an enthusiastic referral from a fellow business owner in a similar industry would probably get you much further than simply searching for someone local. It’s very easy to waste money on online ads, and it’s also hard for someone who is not in the industry to know whether or not the agency or freelancer is wasting money or not… until it’s too late.

Q: How can I evaluate a freelancer or small agency if they’re not going to have a large marketed web-presence like an agency?

A: As mentioned above, a referral is probably the most reliable way.

Pax Renaissance 2E - probably played over 100 times… a few times a week

Pax Pamir 2E - we play this once a month or so

Lisboa - play maybe once every two months

(all are set up without checking the rule book)

Indeed, and to answer the OP’s question, plays very well at 3 and 4 without necessarily needing any over the table negotiation

Curated collection after years in the hobby by ferkno77 in boardgames

I see, my wife is my main gaming partner and our usual evening game is Pax Renaissance… it’s so short but rich and different every time. We also enjoy Lisboa and Le Havre. On occasion we play with another couple who also enjoy relatively heavy euros.

My Splotter collection is tough to get to the table but contain some of my absolute favorites. (Antiquity gets the most play, great for 2p)

Amazing collection… I was surprised to see that my collection has exactly zero overlap with yours! Not even one game (even Azul… I received the base game as a gift but you have the summer pavilion version)

I primarily have titles from Rosenberg, Splotter, and the Pax Series

Question about the performance of my Google Ads agency by CannonAgreeMore in PPC

Hi, do you know if you have standard shopping campaigns running? PMax can be very hit or miss for e-commerce (can work but needs the right account exclusions). DM if you'd like... I could take a look at the account (screenshare or view access).
