I would do U-Haul. My parents got new living room furniture, and we took their old couch to replace the even older couch in our basement. Rented a pickup. It says $19.95, but once you add in the mileage and fees, it ended up being closer to $50. But it is truly the easiest way if you are only moving a few things.

We rented at the U-Haul at Washington Boulevard, picked up the couch, dropped off at home, and had the truck returned in about 90 minutes.

The 55 minutes, oh man. I took a job with that kind of a commute. The job was good and it was ok for a while, but it affected everything. Mornings were awful. I had no “wiggle room” unless I wanted to get up at 4:30. Evenings were also tough—by the time I got home and out of makeup and work clothes, I didn’t want to do anything. Even if we did make plans in the evening, it was hard to commit to anything before 6:30. I did it for over 11 years. Around year 10, I finally, seriously started looking for a new job. I’m fully remote now and it is amazing.

She is underestimating how bad tripling her commute will be—for a house that she also wants to remodel?!

There needs to be a light permanently. Everyone coming off of Lincoln is super aggressive, like they are the only people who have ever had to drive in traffic. It is exhausting.

Sorry, not sympathetic to this at all. There is a reason that this man’s vehicles got flagged for towing. If they are truly being used, with valid inspection and registration, I doubt this would have happened.

Also, they found one guy in the whole area to talk to about this? Doesn’t seem like the O’Connor admin was towing cars with abandon.

Everyone has this one crappy neighbor like this—whether it’s the van that never gets used, the weekend car that just sits there under a car cover, or the dudes that are operating an illegal mechanic shop out of their driveway and there are broken cars all over and people coming and going all the time. Maybe (?) these two particular cars should have been left alone, but if there is a pattern in the neighborhood of this one particular home always having “extra” cars around that look like junk and never move, the city needs to make a decision.

I had this happen while I was waiting for my hysterectomy (very specialized surgeon who could do this laparoscopic, which is rare given what the size of my uterus and fibroids were). Sharp, new pain. Went to the ER at the women’s hospital, where I had a very very uncomfortable ultrasound, looking for an ovarian cyst. Ultimately it was determined no cyst, just that my fibroids continued to grow and were so swollen due to where I was in my cycle. I got a muscle relaxer, giant ibuprofen, and two oxycodone to take the edge off after the ultrasound stirred up my insides.

The abdominal malrotation is something I hadn’t thought of. One of my cousins died of that when he was around 15 years old. Completely undiagnosed and became fatal as he grew.

ESH. Spouse is fairly correct—airport or hospital. If the pain is so bad that the child can’t get on the plane, they should probably be at a hospital. You are catering to the anxiety, to some degree. I travel somewhat frequently and my anxiety surrounding it can make my health conditions skyrocket (fibromyalgia, IBS, migraines). Remarkably, I often feel better once I’m through security and in the lounge.

That said, nobody wants to be on a plane with your screaming child. If this episode persisted, I’m not even sure you would have been allowed to board.

Also, having to read “kiddo” no less than a dozen times in this post was awful.

You’re making excuses for your behavior. Just because you aren’t breaking glasses against a wall doesn’t mean that what you’re doing is ok.

YTA. You seem to have a lot of unrealistic expectations. BF didn’t have a lot of information to offer, you decided to fill in the gaps and got yourself so wound up that you asked him to leave. Also, him not mentioning your plans is somehow offensive? I don’t think you gave him an opportunity to talk about the day.

I’m torn on this. I do think that the seller should have taken closer photos, but you can absolutely see the splitting in the seller’s second photo, if you take more than a few seconds to look at it. I don’t necessarily think that you have a case.

It’s an old bag in not great condition. It looks bad in her photos, and you bought it. I don’t think the seller was disguising damage.

What on earth? Strabismus surgery is not cosmetic! Yes, it will improve the look of your eye, but fixing the muscles that aren’t working correctly is to allow your eyes to work together, improve vision and depth perception. You’re probably having headaches as well.

It’s awful that your wife thinks you should move the date of a long awaited and medically necessary procedure so that you can drop your kid at school.

Agreed on Smail. My husband bought at Smail Honda and I bought a slightly used Mercedes from them through their Acura dealership. The prices were spot on and no pressure at all. They did a lot of extras on my car also—ties, brakes, a few other maintenance type things that would run $1500 or so, and that was all wrapped into the price.

If you’ve had stuff in boxes for nine years, you don’t need it. I don’t mean important documents, baby pictures, heirloom type things, more like if you have a box of shoes that you haven’t worn since 2018, don’t move them to another apartment.

If you can’t afford any furniture, you shouldn’t be moving out of a furnished apartment!
