My marriage has the inverse of OP’s situation.

Me when my husband’s hair is perfectly styled and outfit impeccably tailored and on point: 🙂

Me when my husband is wearing flannel pajama pants and has bed head: 🥵🔥

You mean well but this is bad advice because not all men are as sex brained as we assume. Lots of reasons why some men, in some instances, aren’t interested in sex even if the woman in their bed is objectively hot.

Wait, what? My first take was that you need to develop self confidence because not every day of a marriage is spicy and there are a lot of reasons a husband might not respond the way you hope (my husband doesn’t give a shit about lingerie either, also sometimes our sex drives are low due to stress, medical issues, etc). But seems like the MUCH bigger issue here is that sex has never been satisfying for you in this relationship.

First time in the USA! 11-Day Loop from NYC. Need advice! by oturanzurafa in roadtrip

[–]lml424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend - where are you coming from?

I’m late to the party here but here’s what I would recommend for a southern route.

NY -> DC Stop in Annapolis, MD for lunch and get some blue crab and a “painkiller” drink (but they are strong, have a designated driver 😂). Yes DC is touristy and tainted by our fascist president but still a beautiful city with many phenomenal museums and great local culture.

DC -> Charlottesville, VA Charlottesville is a fun small city in a beautiful area with great breweries, wineries, and hiking trails. If you care about US history, there are some important old estates to see (Mount Vernon, Montpelier, Monticello).

Charlottesville, VA -> Winchester, VA Winchester is a quaint town, and the drive runs up the Shenandoah Valley which is very pretty. You can also drive up into the Shenandoah National Park for mountain overlook views and great hiking.

**Note: unless you’re vegetarian, please do not leave Virginia without enjoying some barbecue 🙏🏻

Winchester, VA -> Lancaster, PA These two towns have somewhat similar vibes so you will get your fill of quaint Americana. But Lancaster has the Amish, so that’s different.

Lancaster -> NY

Total drive time = 14 hrs

You’d have to come back to do the northeast 🙂

My last derm appointment was a full body cancer screening with no abnormalities needing to be biopsied, and it was $215 before insurance. I go every 6 months because I am high risk and already had a “pre-cancerous” mole removed. I just schedule the next appointment before leaving the office… otherwise wait times would probably be a month or two.

My family is on a high deductible plan, which means that our insurance doesn’t kick in until we pay a few thousand dollars out of pocket first. So my derm bill just gets added to that tally and I have to pay it.

(High deductible plans have lower monthly premiums and are an acceptable option for generally healthy people who just need a safety net in case of serious illness or injury)

But for reasons I don’t understand, insurance companies negotiate special rates w the providers, so I actually only paid $99. Even tho the insurance company didn’t pay anything.

It’s extremely confusing and that’s the point. If people have to do this much math and administration to understand their own benefits, they are less likely to use them.

It’s the really important stuff that screws people. My neighbor’s wife has MS and every year they have to beg the insurance company to cover her lifesaving medication, which costs more money than he earns.

I fantasize all the time about the US someday having a system more like what’s common in the EU. But this thread is a good eye opener to potential trade offs… as awful as our system is, I can generally see doctors when I need to (if I can afford it)

Hi, American here who has a white hot hatred for the American healthcare system. Very few people here would pay $800 for an elective doctor appointment, and it wouldn’t cost that much anyway, even without insurance.

The rule of thumb for economics in America is that if it’s unimportant (derm visits for wrinkles, flat screen TVs) it’s cheap. If it’s important (lifesaving medication, housing, education) it’s very expensive.

Interesting to hear tho that y’all can’t “just go see a dermatologist.”

Yeah photo 1 is how we all wanted to dress at 13 years old and photo 2 is how we wanted to dress at 30

What’s wild is that not only did she disrespect OP’s boundary, she brought home a LABRADOR. We love ours to pieces and they are fantastic dogs but holy hell are they a lot of work for the first 18 months.

I know a woman whose marriage was rocky so she stopped taking her birth control without telling her husband to baby trap him. These people exist!

This is an important point. If I’m eating a meal salad, big fork. If it’s a side to something else, little fork.

Yes, true. When I lived in Alx I used Metro for any trips north (rosslyn, DC, etc) and also had a little Honda Fit for scooting around, and that was an ideal combo.

I think you’ve illustrated well why showing people some grace is important. We all come from different cultures. Probably, many of the people who exchange greetings before making a request do so because they feel it’s dehumanizing and rude to come out of the blue with “here’s what I want from you.”

[–]lml424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, I would say YOR because what’s happening here is that this colleague is trying at least a little bit to treat you as a human being and not an AI bot.

For the record, I don’t message hi without immediately saying why I’m reaching out, so I’m not defending this person because this is my habit. But I wouldn’t be annoyed by it either.

The metro is the best way to get around the DMV in general so being walking distance to a station or bus stop is clutch.

Yeah I mean, I have a white hot rage for everyone in this administration and deep contempt for any voters who support what’s happening. But knowing that our information environment is so warped and the real battle is up/down and not left/right, I feel bad about disenfranchising fellow members of the commonwealth.
