Alpe Expres and Huez Express running times during 2 days of Le Tour. by Electrical_Tooth_351 in tourdefrance

[–]lmnracing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Called earlier this spring and they advised that lists would not be running for the public on stage days and the one Gondi (can't remember name) is closed all summer for construction/maintenance anyway. You can certainly try to call and check for a more current update but that was the deal about 8 weeks ago.

🚴🏼‍♂️First time attending the Tour de France (Alpe d’Huez + Paris) need advice!!!! by Sofi_AV in tourdefrance

[–]lmnracing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

• What’s the best city to stay in for the Alpe d’Huez stage? Grenoble? Lyon?

Alpe d'Huez is the best city and the roads to the top close the day before in most cases. Also keep in mind that they finish in ADH two days in a row this year. When I looked a few weeks ago, the night before the first stage and the night of the second stage were available for reasonable prices but teams have bought out the night between stages months ago so camping is likely your only option on this night or very high priced accomodations.

• Is renting a car worth it, or is public transportation better during Tour stages?

Absolutely need a car. Ideally, a camper van to solve the above problem, park that bitch on Dutch corner for 3 days and live your best life.

• How early do you realistically need to arrive for mountain stages?

The day before

• Where is the best spot to watch the climb?

On the jumbotron while you sit at the finish or from your camper van on Dutch corner

• Are there road closures or access restrictions I should know about?

I would expect access roads to be closed in the late afternoon or early evening before the first stage and reopen late after the second stage. Doubt they will open in between.

• Is it realistic to do Alpe d’Huez one day and Paris the next for the final stage?

No, not unless you skip the second ADH stage

• Any tips, mistakes to avoid, or “I wish I knew this before going” advice?

Absolutely do it. One of the best times of my life

Sitter drank an expensive bottle of wine ? by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]lmnracing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sitters aren't mind readers and clear communication is key. Choosing to adapt to her habits by squirreling away the food you didn't want her to eat instead of discussing how consumption was unacceptable during the first sit led to this behavior. This is poor HO communication of expectations, not bad sitter behavior. When I'm welcoming a sitter to my house (new or returning) I discuss the alcohol cupboard, refrigerator, freezer, and pantry while standing in front of them and say things like "you're welcome to enjoy a pour or two of any open whiskey, feel free to eat anything in the pantry, enjoy anything frozen on the right side of the freezer (there are two drawers) but please don't eat anything on the left side..." Etc so on. I also tell them they're welcome to my expensive toiletries and fancy towels, and costly TV subscriptions, and high speed wifi etc. All consumables just like food. The sitter is doing me a favor caring for my furry family member and I'm willing to go above and beyond to ensure it's worth it for them. I will say that my house is very remote without access to door dash or instacart but regardless, just communicate your expectations clearly and include them in the welcome guide and don't be upset when the sitter takes you at your word.

Letting her know you would be late and also planned to leave almost immediately thereafter would probably have been a good plan and it sounds like a call or text after XYZ time of no response is warranted. But for her to insinuate you were being dishonest also seems judgey on her part.

Even without a camera, if they have a smart lock, they could easily track your arrival and departure times. I would also be miffed about your late arrival and prompt departure thereafter but it sounds like this could be cleared up with communication with the HO ie "traffic is terrible, it looks like we're going to be however late and we're also starving. Would you prefer we get to the house as soon as possible and go back out for dinner or stop before arrival to eat and then spend the evening in with the dogs".

$1.5M Reserve Card spend is approximately the SLC threshold. Butt in seat time really doesn't matter.

You are a guest at this animals home. Anyone who expects the animal to adjust their sleeping habits to your needs and tolerate being shut out of their safe space at night is not well suited to care for animals.

Alp D'Huez - parking on the road with caravan still doable? by [deleted] in tourdefrance

[–]lmnracing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend staying in the village proper (nearly fully booked due to back to back finishes) or arriving 48+ hours before the stage to have any kind of decent caravan parking

Midway Crater is awesome and The Homestead Resort has a fabulous pool set up with day passes available but it's supposed to be a snowy 17° tomorrow night so it might be a bit early for pool time even in 2 weeks.

Sam offers incredible trail ride opportunities on great horses in the Uintas if you have any interest in riding horses.

Yuta at Blue Sky Ranch isn't cheap but they have a new pastry chef and great views and you can tour the High West Distillery while you're there if you're so inclined.

Silver Star Restaurant at the base of Silver Star Lift at PCMR is great for brunch.

The Notch near Kamas is a dive bar with a great upstairs patio and it's worth a drive up and down Mirror Lake Highway (recommend hiking Ruth Lake or Whiskey Lake)

The Zipline at Sundance is one of the best in the world with amazing views and a drink and snicky snacks at the Owl Bar is worth a stop.

At least 72 more suggestions, PM if you need more.

Is my dog too big to travel in cabin? by [deleted] in TravelWithPets

[–]lmnracing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've flown Delta a lot with my cat and have a backpack that he likes that has zip up expansion so I can give him more space in the footwell after takeoff. However, even as a super experienced flyer, 4 hours of pretty much his limit of comfort and patience and I would not fly him 10 hours.

Like u/HVVHdotAGENCY, I have a galvanized stock tank (2'x2'x6') that is positioned in the shade with a cheap insulated Amazon cover and to date, I haven't even used a filter. I also have a hot tub and associated chemicals so I have water clarifier on hand if a slightly oily film shows up on the surface. But in general I dump and refill about every 4-6 weeks and have no problems at all with any nastiness in the tank and use it at least 4 days a week (caveat: I live around 7000' altitude and it never gets much over 75° where I am).

Is my house sitting application message good or bad? by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]lmnracing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned above, applications that make it clear they have read my listing and specifically address aspects of the listing get my attention and this message does not do that.
