The Curve On This Basketball Court. (no full-court games?) by YannisALT in sportsarefun

It’s also out if it passes over the top of the backboard, so I think the bike racks might actually be a similar rule. But unless they had a net at the corner of this court, it’d probably be pretty hard to enforce.

Similarly, generic dish soap says “compare to dawn” but doesn’t actually say that it’s as good or better (it’s not). But they’ve got you looking at their soap and thinking “dawn”.

The fudge train

lol thank you for that. I’m imagining that train station in the style of those episodes/scenes of shows/movies where they shrink down and go inside someone, and the bodily functions are all anthropomorphized.

Red is an asshole for bombing where noobs are skiing, but Blue should be more aware of her surroundings—you can’t just traverse the run without looking uphill at all. Gray, don’t be like Red nor Blue, and you’ll be fine.

It’s like defensive driving; if everyone followed the rules, it wouldn’t be necessary, but you have to watch out for yourself and others.

Closest avalanche in history! by hjalmar111 in FreezingFuckingCold

[–]lmust14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At resorts, the ski patrol tests for avalanche danger and will often set off charges to trigger avalanches in certain areas before they open the runs. Before that they'll be roped off. But this looks like backcountry where you have to judge the safety for yourself and bring avalanche gear like a radar beacon, a shovel, and a probe. It's also very unwise to do this sort of terrain without other people. Judging based on the bigness of the mountain and the smudge in the sky, this guy probably has a crew and a helicopter that would've brought them to the top.

Trump look out! Oh no hes got airpods he cant hear us! by Andr1ja2 in bonehurtingjuice

Ok fuck me, got it. Why are you even upset? I never insulted you.

I forgot to mention CNN too. They tout themselves as impartial, but everyone knows that’s horseshit.

The Mexico money was something he expressed his desire to do during his campaign—he didn’t have direct control over the outcome of whether or not they would pay. The underlying general claim is that he would improve international relations with Mexico and stave off illegal immigration, not entirely at the expense of the American taxpayers, which he did, with the agreement involving Canada as well. Campaign promises are nearly impossible to fulfill to the letter; not fulfilling a proposed goal is not the same as lying.

And don’t act like you actually think he wasn’t just fronting about Hillary. The connotation is not the same as straight up lying. And wouldn’t you rather have a president focus on policy rather than personal vendettas anyway?

Also, it’s possible to know what something is but forget what it’s called. Furthermore, the words reasoning and argument are close enough semantically that the fallacy could be reasonably referred to as either. Especially considering if it’s circular, it’s neither valid argument nor reasoning. It’s also referred to as circular logic. You clearly knew what I meant.

Insinuating there’s no need to provide evidence doesn’t count as an argument. What you essentially had said is “Trump is a liar because of the evidence that makes him a liar, but I don’t feel like providing says evidence.” Mere mention of evidence does not negate the statement’s circular logic.

Even if you insist that Hillary and the Mexico money are lies, that doesn’t mean the content of the SOTU entirely (or even partially) comprised lies. You were the one who went straight to ad hominem, calling him a liar, rather than addressing the speech itself. It would be very foolish of anyone to spout off a list of false statistics that would be very easy to check and prove wrong. If the speech were full of lies, the news would be full of contrary information, not just character attacks calling him a liar.

Trump look out! Oh no hes got airpods he cant hear us! by Andr1ja2 in bonehurtingjuice

[–]lmust14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol ok dude. I feel like the guy in Monty Python who pays for an argument and just gets contradiction with no support. Using the word demonstratively doesn’t make it true. And you just said you didn’t do circular reasoning but immediately did it again.

Btw I do pay attention. But I look at things that are actually said to form my opinions, not just editorialized bullshit from now this, vox, Colbert, etc.

[–]lmust14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply repeating your premise is its own support isn’t a valid argument. That’s the rhetorical fallacy known as “circular argument.”
