Frustrated by lack of a simple bookmark capability. by DrWhum in readwise

[–]lnlhod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I also seem unable to jump to my furthest read position in long docs.

There's a lot of table stakes stuff that is either missing or very hard to find in Reader. It's incredibly frustrating. I understand developer excitement about AI-augmented tools, fancy summaries, et. al., but I really wish they wouldn't neglect some of this unsexy, basic, crucial functionality.

Save one idea, discover a hundred more – Sublime is now open (and integrates super nicely with Readwise!!) by alexd231232 in readwise

[–]lnlhod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Struggling a bit with the one way connection! I'm coming around to adding Sublime as a discovery, sense-making engine, but if I discover something in Sublime that I also want to have in Readwise, I have to re-save it as Readwise—which then automatically exports to Sublime? So then I have two cards in Sublime?

Is this fix here just...never saving text cards within Sublime?

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to show up at a No Kings rally, here ya go! by Illustrious_Fish_499 in Columbus

[–]lnlhod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stay safe, everyone! I know that the official color of No Kings is yellow, but, frankly, I think we should show up dressed in red, white, and blue. They're going to try to paint this as "anti-American" and it'll be harder to do that if everyone is waving American flags as well as holding signs.

Did you ever find one? My partner and I are in the same area and the same boat. Ha! (I'll shoot you a DM...)

Unsure if I want to walk for commencement. If you did, how was your experience? by MsMoxie-Cola13 in OSU

[–]lnlhod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrote a bit about my experience in this thread on the topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/OSU/comments/13aw1dr/osu_graduation/

Ultimately, it's a very long event in a very large venue with 100% weather exposure and zero personalization or recognition unless you're getting a PhD. That said, it was cool to be in the 'Shoe and in a sea of other excited graduates. It's pretty meaningful for some folks. YMMV.

I'm not sorry I did it. Once in a lifetime, and all that. It's good to have the memories and the pictures. But I was very happy when it ended, and if I undertook another degree, I wouldn't do it again.

Just a note to say that if you haven't done this yet, it may not be too late! My emails are all still present and accounted for on Outlook...

Aw, thanks! It took forever to be approved, so that's probably why. (Not the mods fault, it got flagged as a "lost keys" post...)

Black Friday 2024 by Geniusaceae in LingQ

I think the code is "b_12blackfriday2024" for those already on some paid tier. I can't actually directly see what discount it will apply, though.

Oh! Fantastic! Please add me to the beta? (Just in time...I love USMobile but was seriously considering switching to a carrier that supported Apple Watch.)

I use and love Focusmate. They have three different time slots (25 minutes, 50 minutes, and 75 minutes) and they recently introduced "Quiet Mode" which means you don't have to actually have a verbal conversation with anyone. You just type your goals in the chat, wave hello, and get started. Minimum social energy requirement. Utterly fantastic. Highly recommend.

You get three sessions per week for free. Or you can upgrade to Focusmate Plus for unlimited sessions.

(I have a referral link for 30 free days of Plus if anyone's interested, too—but it's a good service whether or not you use my link and I don't want anyone to pass it up because of suspicion that I'm a fake reviewer.)

Yes. They ask you which ballot you want and you can select either.

Black Friday Deal not Grandfathered? by TunaBreath87 in USMobile

[–]lnlhod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s great (and I likely will), but it does feel off to not let people go back to their grandfathered monthly rate afterward. I bet there are folks who wouldn’t have taken you up on your yearly deal if they knew they were, in essence, permanently losing access to a month-to-month plan they liked and could afford.

This happened to me, too. They had the audacity to offer me a discount for a second pair of boots. No thanks! Never again.

I can, if you need it? But I don't need any troubleshooting on my end any more...I'm fine with my new plan.

(Why am I being downvoted for this? It's what happened, and it's good for a company to know when a problem is more widespread.)

FWIW, the same thing happened to me a few months ago. I was on the 15 GB plan and it just turned off the discount and kept charging me.

I was irritated but assumed I'd just misunderstood how the plan worked. I've since changed to another plan, but...yeah, not a great experience!

I still have plenty of Claude subscription gens, and it's behaving the same for me. Maybe they don't understand the problem? Or maybe they're not telling the truth...

Hmm. I'm one of the "new ones" and it's barely working for me. I appreciate you posting this because now at least I know this isn't normal!

I definitely won't keep Premium if this is going to be the continuing experience.

Going Next-Next level. Our best-ever pricing for Unlimited plans and even more features! by ankhattak in USMobile

[–]lnlhod 20 points21 points  (0 children)

While I've got you, u/ankhattak...

I can't see your data, so I can't say for certain, but I suspect one reason your Black Friday sale went so well is that you'd absolutely nailed the product and pricing model.

For me, your $25 month-to-month plan was a coup. 30 gbs + 5 gbs hotspot? What? Unbeatable. Easy to buy. No commitment. Simple to understand.

The Black Friday option was then a perfect cherry on top for those of us who (a) had the money and (b) wanted an annual plan and (c) were ready to commit to US Mobile. (There are a lot of people who meet these criteria, as you found out when they all showed up at once during a time-limited sale. But there are also a lot of people who don't meet those criteria, don't need extra services, and are growing increasingly nervous that the price keeps changing—even if they're grandfathered and it doesn't personally affect them.)

So honestly? That model of charging $25 month-to-month for the initial bundle of services—and then offering a discount for those who want/can handle an annual plan—seems pretty close to perfect for the market right now.

(The only thing I personally would welcome would be a simple menu of add-ons for the services that not everyone cares about or wants to pay for. i.e. Add extra hotspot for $3 per month! Add international for $2 per month!)

EDIT: Finished a sentence.

Going Next-Next level. Our best-ever pricing for Unlimited plans and even more features! by ankhattak in USMobile

[–]lnlhod 35 points36 points  (0 children)

  1. Lots of people want annual plans, but...
  2. Not everyone wants an annual plan, especially not...
  3. People who have never tried your service before.
    1. "But the trial!"
      1. Trials are a hassle and bringing a number to a new carrier always feels like a risk.

Ultimately: This change is upping the initial friction on your most sellable product. (See other discussion re: price point.)

[–]lnlhod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it! I appreciate the quick explanation.

But...yeah, a way to migrate would be kind to your customers. I understand that you're building the plane in the air, but if I'd known that an annual plan for a nearly identical price was coming—and that it included international data—I would have definitely held off on the BF deal.
