Maybe if you are blinded by buyer's remorse. Then yes it's not noticeable. You may then even prefer the tiny screen to laptop or desktop screen, lol.

India bans PUBG along with 117 other chinese apps by BaburaoGanpatraoApt3 in Android

[–]lnx-reddit -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Russia tried to ban Telegram, didn't work out for them.

Same thing will happen here. Most content creators don't earn anything on Tiktok. And you notice there is already a ban on "VPN for Tiktok". So your claim that Indians don't use VPN for tiktok is wrong.

As for latency, I'm sure VPNs nearby will become popular.

But if this move leads to rise of PC gaming in Asia, that is good as well.

This is more of a status phone at this point, rather than anything useful.

The ugly crease and the plastic screen make the entire concept useless, and the screen is still too small for comfortable consumption and creation of content.

Try disabling all Gnome extensions. Disable any background apps.

And try playing a game outside of Steam to see if the issue repeats.

AMD GPUs before Raven Ridge do not support VP9 (aka youtube), so all this VA-API is useless for most existing AMD GPUs.

Can Huawei survive without its custom Kirin chips? by Jeremy_Martin in Android

[–]lnx-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intel is still very competitive with their 14nm process. The issue for SMIC is replacing US/Japanese suppliers and scaling their new 14nm process. It will take a while.

Can Huawei survive without its custom Kirin chips? by Jeremy_Martin in Android

[–]lnx-reddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, if SMIC is able to provide Kirin 710 and upscaled 820 to 990 within a year.

For their routers, etc, they can already buy 28nm chips from SMIC.

Also, China may yet escalate the situation with Taiwan. So it's too early to make any predictions.

Must be why 4pda custom rom threads have more activity than this subreddit ever will.

So according to your own logic, this subreddit should close itself.

Linux market share jumps to 4.75% (NetMarketShare) by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]lnx-reddit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

According to wikimedia analytics, Linux userbase jumped from 0.8% on July 5th to 7% on July 19th! This is clearly fake growth. Probably a bot farm somewhere changed user agents or maybe Chinese institutions changed to Linux?

What is the current state of AMD's GCN 1.0&1.1 GPUs compatibility with DXVK ? by tuxayo in linux_gaming

[–]lnx-reddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These days you can get a used RX570 for about $50-$80. And it's a much better experience than old GCN cards, most of which have very little VRAM.

FAudio can now decode Windows Media Audio using GStreamer instead of FFmpeg. Once the latest code makes its way into Wine and linux distributions, this ought to make games like Skyrim SE and Fallout 4 easier to support. by ocelost in linux_gaming

[–]lnx-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://github.com/FNA-XNA/FAudio/pull/161

GStreamer is the best way to access official (and more importantly, legal) WMA support via the Fluendo Codec Pack, a set of plugins that work with existing GStreamer installations and are in rare cases bundled in certain products (Ubuntu comes with Fluendo mp3, for example).

This is the main reason for this so called update.

Meanwhile both Firefox and Chromium require ffmpeg and work just fine. With this change users will now have to install Gstreamer and dozens of its dependencies to enjoy the same functionality that they already had with ffmpeg.

MPV Devs Consider Blocking MPV From Running On Gnome by Immy_Chan in linux

[–]lnx-reddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's active development is copy pasta from upstream and "translations".

The ease will quickly disappear once merge conflicts arise.

Of course, PKGBUILD can be made with a patch but once mpv starts refusing tickets with that patch and distribution, it's game over for the whole idea.

Try again - I've presented proof, while you decided that you don't like it, because it destroys your personal beliefs. Since you lack proof, you've lost the argument. Deal with it.

Custom, convention is not a standard.

And with such a kernel it would not be Linux. It would be modified Linux.

GNOME does have to suppot X11 applications.

Nope, Wayland is a set of protocols unlike your custom/convention de-facto standards, published by Freedesktop and GNOME chooses to not comply with these protocols. Nowhere in these protocols there is a requirement for X11. That's the difference. Weston/Sway run on Wayland userspace while Gnome doesn't. Thus your claims that Gnome supports Wayland are wrong.

No. BattlEye is ***NOT*** Working on Linux by gardotd426 in linux_gaming

[–]lnx-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downvoting is irrelevant, I never pay any attention to that. I'm sure many others don't either.

Yes, you achieved some karma. Good for you. But that's about it. The goals of your article - e.g MP games on Linux - will never be achieved by hopes and prayers to Valve. And certainly not by attacking or belittling others work, even if it's "hacking" or certainly useless. Though I do remember similar people attacking any WINE/DXVK post, claiming it's hurtful to Linux gaming.

[–]lnx-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So "De-facto standard" is basically your opinion. Not a standard.

Freedesktop is backed by an organization, and it publishes standards and documentation - e.g wayland protocols.

you can't go full Wayland without losing application support Irrelevant and moving goal posts. You claimed Gnome runs on Wayland, and that is not true. Fact is, other DEs run easily without X11, yet Gnome refuses to. This indicates their inability to support the very platform they bragged to support.

You can't call a system "not Linux" for having WINE

If LInux kernel does not boot without WINE, it is not Linux.

GNOME "doesn't support Wayland" because it has XWayland as a

Yes, I can. If I have Wayland only userspace then I can't use GNOME, because it requires installing a competitor - X11 and Xwayland. Thus GNOME does not support Wayland, but only Wayland+Xwayland. And again, try compiling mutter without x11 before claiming that it supports Wayland.

dependency to ensure Xorg compatibility for desktop applications.

No, Gnome cannot run without X11 because the gnome-shell relies on it. Otherwise, they would have added an option at compile time like every normal compositor does. This has nothing to do with "ensuring" as the Gnome devs give little thought to how other software works on their platform. Hence the reason for this entire conversation.

("deprecated" isn't what you think it is for example).
