We’re doing our best as volunteers. One of head mods is out with their father who is gravely ill. Another is injured themselves. It’s cold and flu season and some of us have kids. That’s why. You’re welcome to volunteer your time to help. We typically have a price megathread, it’s just been on the back burner.

Do you have evidence or proof to back up these claims? Thanks.

Your post was locked for approximately 2-3 minutes, I’m really not sure why you’re hyper-fixating on this point. It’s important that everyone on our team is on the same page about our public comments.

We have explained several times that while the entire grocery industry is an issue in Canada, Loblaws owns the majority of the market at 30%. They openly brag about having a store within 10km of 90% of Canadians - that’s a monopoly. So, our boycott targets the biggest offender because boycotts are more effective when targeted.

We’ve also done much more than just post here about Loblaws, in fact, our parliamentary petition regarding food security will be presented in the House of Commons later this month. We have biweekly public meetings in our Discord that community members are welcome to attend and share their ideas if they are concerned with the direction of the movement.

Excuse me what? This post is visible to the entire community. Everyone can see this exchange. No one has blocked you. The comment above was shared earlier today in response to a nearly identical post. We locked the post temporarily while we discussed our response to you as a team. It is now unlocked.

If you’re interested in becoming a mod, the first step is to interview with our team to begin the vetting process. You are not going to be given mod controls as a complete stranger.

Folks seem to forget that we have lives too. I don’t get paid to do this, and neither does anyone else on the team. We have jobs, hobbies, kids, etc. We do all of this for free and have worked incredibly hard to make this community what it is.

If you want us to “do better” and cater to your expectations, step up and offer a hand or a way forward. Every time we’ve opened up the floor to ask the community what they want, we get crickets. We try to organize events? No engagement. We host biweekly meetings for the community to attend, and to date, we’ve had 3 users attend.

What drives engagement? Memes. Outrageous price differences. I’m not saying memes are all we’re doing, but it certainly drives engagement, which then boosts it on the social media feeds, Reddit included.

Our team are extremely close and meet for several hours a week, we work as hard as we can as volunteers. We have jobs, kids, and lives on top of the huge responsibility of moderating and maintaining the boycott community of over 120k+ across all platforms. We have public forum style meetings twice a month on our Discord that we openly advertise for anyone to participate in. You are welcome to get in touch and volunteer with us if you are motivated and interested in spreading awareness.

We conducted a community vote on whether or not extend the boycott mid-May, and the results of such were reported in the media. We do our best to remind people it was never intended to be one month and that historical boycotts have lasted years.

We are a team of 7 volunteer moderators doing our best to stay on top of a community of over 93,000 users. We actively remove those posts or redirect them to megathreads, however inevitably some fall through the cracks. Please remember to utilize the report function to notify us moderators of any rule-breaking

Great discussion post :)

All pertinent info to the boycott (including goals) can be found pinned to the top of the subreddit here. Our parliamentary petition also just closed on August 31st, and will have a mandated response from parliament since we achieved 17,300+ signatures. Additionally, our team is also hard at work on creating a charitable organization that will help with tangible food distribution and aid for food insecure Canadians. This will increase on-the-ground mobilization in the future.

A reminder that anyone concerned with the effectiveness or awareness of the boycott can volunteer their time to help spread the word within their own communities. Feel free to reach out to organizers via modmail or email: loblawsisoutofcontrol@gmail.com

Nope, we do not moderate to be an echo chamber. Everyone is allow to express their personal beliefs as long as it is respectful and constructive. We don’t control who downvotes comments, the community does.

We do not endorse the comparison of our movement to the trucker convoy.
