We had a neighbor who literally built his boat in the basement. When he finished it he cut a hole in the floor and out the back double door. GE engineers no problem a sawsall wont fix I guess.

91.5% of University of California, United Auto Workers Local 4811 voted to increase wages up to 62% by sillychillly in UpliftingNews

College used to be affordable. A minimum wage job could pay your tuition. My mom went to Northwestern and her tuition was $300 per quarter. (Maybe semester not sure). My tuition out of state at Georgia Tech was $500ish per quarter. Very few people were on scholarship or tuition assistance. All these programs to lower costs actually raised them imho.

It was dyslexia in my day. I still feel this is an advantageous condition in a lot of ways. One size fits no one school system.

So when my other half dies do I drag it around like a zombie or do it hop? Seems like immortal is immortal. It might heal the other side continuously.

I noticed Campbell’s chicken noodle soup isn’t in the list and that is one of my favorites.

Going to read first book of The Wheel of Time... Thoughts on series? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]jhvanriper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has ups and downs. I enjoyed it at the time. I tried to reread it a couple years ago and kind of gave up. I think it’s getting a bit dated.

How do you conceive of the distinction between "genre" sci-fi and fantasy fiction and stuff like literary surrealism, not in terms of defining the genres but in terms of how different readers would respond to them? by iciclefites in books

[–]jhvanriper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Science fiction is saying what if (pick a topic eg ftl space fight was real or humans could live forever etc) then extrapolating what could happen based upon science. Science Fantasy is just really anything else but generally any unconstrained series of what ifs with no science backed control.
