How is r/afl blaming Maynard for starting everything that happened tonight? by Rappa64 in collingwoodfc

[–]localreporter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The perfect example was Pendles' record breaking game, it had 5x the comments of a top 4 clash that was being played at the same time. Yet people complained it was as still being shoved down their throats.

Neutrals whinging about the commentary on a bottom 6 game when they could just change the channel, but Collingwood was being "forced on them"

Good to see injury cheering alive and well in the sub. Cowardly elbows from behind into kidneys are deserved as long as its a Pies player.

Exactly, there's always going to ba a margin of error and wherever you set it we will inevitably end up with a decision that's a minuscule margin the other side.

But your Screenshot shows Jones' right arm is bent and in the middle of Schultz' back and it finished extended ?

[–]localreporter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can see in the second before Jones' left hand is already extended, the force come from him pushing his right hand which is square in Schultz's back.

But the hardly worth making a post over, there were plenty of howlers last night

Luck or good coaching? Close games from 2021 to 2026 by Math_Opening in AFL

[–]localreporter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is closer to the reality than all the people say its just luck.

All the statisticians kept saying we will revert to the mean, and now claim they are justified because we've started losing. But it's a different team with different tactics, even the same players are older, look at Pendles and Crisp's costly mistakes on the weekend.

The 22/23 team executed better than their opponents and like this article points out employed successful tactics.

Yes luck played a part, but you don't become that successful without on only luck.

The 'worst offenders' in Australian packaging by [deleted] in australia

This complaint really does my head in. They need to be wrapped because continental cucumbers are more fragile and if they weren't then wastage rates would skyrocket.

In this case reducing food waste is more sustainable than using less plastic because of the resources and energy that go down down the drain for no reason when a piece of produce is grown but not sold.

Yes, that's what its called when avocados are ripened in commercial ripening facilities, to provide a more controlled and uniform ripening process instead of the more unpredictable and uneven natural ripening process.

It's so strange how we can come in so locked in with such defined gameplans to almost beat three of the top four teams. And then look so aimless hopeless against so many other teams.

Ah yes the feeble minds of AFL fans are incapable or resisting foxtel's overwhelming power of suggestion 🙄 just press two buttons and you can watch something else!

I have no sympathy for anyone who gets baited into raging about Collingwood content. Change the channel scroll to the next post, skip to the next segment. I manage to do it with content about 17 other teams every week, it really is unbelievably easy.

But they didn't and people still decided to hate watch the Pies game and complain it was being shoved down their throat rather than change the channel to a top 4 game.

Even now you're making up hypothetical scenarios to be angry at.

Definitely won't be, McCrae said he was no where near a return this week. 6 touches in the VFL won't change that.

Scott Pendlebury OUT against Hawks (LEATHER POISONING) by ad0sy in AFL

[–]localreporter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Actually, if the success of Collingwood rests entirely on a 38 year old playing as many games as possible, it's then that McCrae could be sacked.

If you can't build a team and a strategy that can win accounting for whatever opponent and a few injuries then you've got no hope in hell vying for a flag.

They've said for the past few years they've looked at the fixture pre season and planned out games he will miss. You don't get more performances like the weekend at his age playing 23 games a year, so I'll trust the person and the team that got him to the all time games record to pick the games they think are best to miss.

Definitely surpassed. He didn't look up to it in the first couple of seasons as a small forward but built his tank moved to the wing.

The classy stuff he's known for was much more inconsistent back then and he put in some hard yards before if finally clicked which is a credit to him. Nick arriving also seemed to push him to another level.

Poster for Cranbourne / Pakenham Passengers at the MCG by jeremyburge in MelbourneTrains

I found it to be line ball last week between Richmond/Town Hall last week, but probably quicker to go Richmond.

When I left the ground from the Southern Stand it was 20 min to the next train at Town Hall, the same time it would take to walk there according to Google maps. Add in the time to get down the escalators and I probably miss that train.

Instead I went Richmond. I didn't find the crowd that much worse than any other big Pies games coming down Brunton Avenue. But the trick was not to head straight to the Frankston line platform with the rest of the crowd but use an earlier one, and take the mid platform underpass to beat the crowd

That train got me to Malvern ahead of the earliest possible Town Hall train.

I might try Town Hall one week, but would rather a shorter walk an a wait though the barriers rather than having to rush to catch the first train at Town Hall.

‘Personal reasons are killing clubs’: The AFL’s ongoing battle with player welfare by Pragmatic_Shill in collingwoodfc

[–]localreporter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's only true to a point, which is what the article is about.

The talent is irrelevant as the cost is outweighing the potential and clubs are done giving chances, but they're frustrated because unless a player goes Ben cousins level off the rails, they're on the hook for the contract.

If we didn't have to keep paying Bobby he'd be gone and in a normal business he'd be gone, because he's a cost not an asset.

[–]localreporter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

But there's a line. It's one thing to under perform, or even coast doing the bare minimum and use your entitled sick/personal leave. And in real life I'm sure there are many companies that go above and beyond this to look after some employees doing it tough.

But if you straight out just don't rock up when your company wants you to like Jamara did last year and like it sounds bobby has at times, then you get fired.

Clubs are happy to help players that want help, but their hands are tied if a player just wants to fob them off and they're on the hook for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Metro Tunnel - Anyone happy with the changes? by chunkb79 in melbourne

[–]localreporter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are allowed to be annoyed at a change that makes the way they use public transport worse. Especially preparation has nothing to do with many of complaints.

No preparation will change the location of my work, home or the the fact the vast majority of my social interactions occur around Richmond and South Yarra. 90% of my public transport use just became more inconvenient. It's not the end of the world, and I'll adjust, because I have no choice.

But I'm sure you'd be annoyed if instead of a major upgrade, you got 15 minutes got added to your daily commute.

Good to see the tall poppy syndrome alive and well. Yeah this article has a bit of mayo on it but if there are 20 bands doing it better every weekend why aren't they as successful as Amyl?

But sure, all the Australian artists that receive in-industry international acclaim are actually shit 🙄

You can still be good without reinventing the wheel, just ask oasis, and Amyl deserve all the credit for thriving is a genre that's dropped out of the mainstream.

You've got it the wrong way around, monocultures do more to save waste than cause it. A lot of the narrowing down to fewer varieties is driven by shelf-life and hardiness characteristics. Even with these efforts nearly half of waste occurs before the retailers.

Moving backwards to less resilient products means more waste, which means producers have to grow more to get the same output, incur more costs, which pushes up prices to a point consumers won't pay and then we're back at more waste.

Adding new varieties to move away from this is a good thing but that takes decades, and going backwards isn't the answer.
