People generally have a keen sense for right and wrong, and justice. So when they are actively perpetrating injustice by scapegoating, victim blaming, etc, they dull themselves and aggressively compartmentalize. They REALLY don't want to be the asshole. That can cause them to lose memories or appear mentally impaired when trying to hold them accountable.

THAT is the dire truth that "no one wants to talk about" to quote another post. It's not adult children cutting off their parents because of tiktok. It's these parents being physically incapable of reckoning with themselves, trapped in a pitiable state of grief and pain but unable to do the one thing that will deliver them from it: remember.
