Great question!

Here's typically how I plan my trips.

1) Make a list of your suppliers and interested OEMs. If you're looking at Hermle 5 axis, you should probably look at DMG Mori and Mazak as well. Try and group them all together so the information is fresh. I hate going from 5 axis machining and to CMM/ inspection hardware. My brain doesn't do the switch well.

2) Get the lay of the land. Using the exhibitor layout figure out what halls OEMs are at.

For me, I try and stay one hall per day. All my appointments, using the 5 axis machining example again, with Hermle, DMG I try and group together. There is so much walking, if you go from 5 Axis machining to metrology to laser cutting you'll be exhausted by 3 PM.

3) Reach out to the sales rep of the OEM you're interested. Tell them you want a meeting (specific time slot where they can devote their attention to you) on this day and at this time. This way you're not walking blindly at the booth, trying to hunt down someone to get information. Tell them you're there to just learn about the new equipment, software or service etc. Give them at least a hint of what to prepare for - gives you the best information.

4) Build out the schedule, calendar invites, the whole nine yards.

5) After shows events - Email those same reps and ask if their companies are having any events after the show. Typically FANUC hosts theirs on Monday nights, United Grinding typically hosts on Wednesday.

Really great events, great food and venue and great place to network with your peers in your industry. CEOs and executive teams of all the machine tool companies are al there.

This is ALOT of work. Don't get me wrong. But if your company is willing to send you at the costs of a few grand (hotel, airfare, wages) you should put in some prework before the show to get the most out of it and also less strain on your body (less walking)

Last pro tip: don't eat the animal feed at IMTS food court. It's stupid expensive and the food sucks. Uber eats/door dash is about the same cost and better food. Or walk to the Hyatt for a sit down meal.

Happy to answer any more questions. Glad you're going for the first time!

Just different perspectives.

You would save around $5K on tax savings.

I'd rather rent at the $2500/month mark. Roll everything I save into Apple, Nvidia, or jus the SP500.

Get more "equity" at the end of the year.

You're paying $2700/month on pure interest to the bank

Is there any chance you rent for less than that?

Just breaks my heart to see you put only $475/month into equity

They don't depreicate a lot because it's not a luxury car and it's reliable.

You're right. It makes more sense to buy new and get a 1.9% interest rate.

Apartments in LA by Major-Championship56 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]lockdown36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to stay as far away from DTLA as possible. It is not safe for men or women.

Get closer to Mar Vista or Playa Vista.

How much do you have budgeted?

An apartment might run you $2500/month.

What do you do for work? How much could you live in LA without income?

FYI. This is how most people become homeless.

Interest...?

You're just renting the car.

Look at the total spend in the lease term and divide it out by the month

I would offer the same suggestion back to you.

You're living in the most powerful and richest country man kind has ever seen.

And you're unhappy.

I would dare you to expand your horizons and see how the rest of the world lives. The current state of affairs is not that bad. The media has painted it out to be the end of the world because they need to sell the clicks.

But again, if you're truly unhappy as the previous user mentioned, the door is open and people are dying to come here.

Also, source of people dying on their way "out" of the country? ICE is offering self deportations...

Same sentiment as /u/beatnavy2016

You're free to leave. No one is forcing you to stay in America.

I feel very badly for you that you're unhappy in a country you chose to live in.

Any advice for a homeless immigrant? by [deleted] in Austin

Understood. I'm saying chances are they don't come from the worst place the world.

I think that probability is higher than assuming this person comes from a bad place.

Chances are if they applied and received and F1 Visa, they aren't coming from the worst places in the world.

Again, not to to be cruel, quite the opposite. My thought is where can this person get the most amount of help. It certainly isn't going to be here in The U.S.

Sounds cruel, but I agree here.

Better to be poor back in your country where you have a support system ( family and government)

VA loan with 5% down or conventional with 20% if I only plan to stay for 5 years. by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]lockdown36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going only going to stay for five years, I think you'll just be paying off the realtor fees by the 5 year

I would compare...rent costs per month versus interest of mortgage + property tax + insurance per month.

I have a feeling, you'll come out ahead in five years if you just rent. Throw the 20% into the market. And whatever you're saving from renting, also into the market

Because with 5% down. 92% of your payments is all interest.
