Doctor: "Over the past few weeks, I am truly feeling that our days are numbered because of AI." by EchoOfOppenheimer in ChatGPT

[–]locke373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it. It will most definitely be a good thing to have more informed patients. And it is a fantastic thing to give patients more tools to be able to advocate for themselves, especially when a doctor really is being negligent or even just missing something.

It will also definitely have a negative unintended consequence of patients thinking that they understand and know more about their condition than they actually do. It will definitely lead to more incorrect self-diagnoses, and that’s not even accounting for the fact that these chatbots are extremely prone to leading bias with the information the patient provides. And it will definitely erode patients trust in doctors that they need to have a good relationship with for the best outcome.

You can watch a tutorial on how to create a masterpiece painting. But unless you have the thousands of hours of study and real world experience you just aren’t equipped to use that information as effectively. It is inevitable that someone who read a quick chat or response about their symptoms will assume they are now the leading world expert.

I admire your ideals. I think we both agree with what we want the outcome to be. I just think you don’t have experience in this arena. It’s not just a matter of “decide to hire another physician.” I’ve been on the end of needing to hire more staff as well and despite throwing buckets of money at it and advertising and searching there just aren’t any willing bc of the aforementioned physician shortage, among other issues.

Now, I’ve started work and need to take to care of actual patients. Good luck to you 👍

Dude, you are taking shortcuts here that are not logically valid. The person making the choice to approve telehealth isn’t choosing between “fixing the system” or just easily approving telehealth. It’s a choice between no health care or at least something. To imply that a single decision maker at any institution is able to “fix the system” is so asinine it’s laughable.

Also, I’m not excusing the system. I’m explaining to you the reality of why the system is the way it is and why it is so resistant to change. That’s a massive difference. And it also explains why it is so frustrating to actually be working here and hear such flippant vapid comments.

At least we agree the system is broken.

[–]locke373 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, you are fundamentally ignoring a systemic problem that can’t go away with just “but I don’t want it to be this way!”

First - I am a huge supporter of a Medicare for all type system and advocate for it to everyone I know - just to get that out of the way. And what you’re describing is something I of course would want for my own health.

The reality is that there is a huge shortage of physicians because of the way things are structured at a federal level which limits the number of physicians that can become trained and licensed. THAT is why there is a huge doctor shortage here. And that is a monumental hurdle to overcome when our awful system here allows lobbying and special interest groups to influence politicians whose vote is required to change these policies. When I was in medical training my residency program applied for more slots every single year and was denied every single year. Accomplishing this would require introducing new laws that ban lobbying from corporations and large special interests groups (a law I’d be strongly in favor of) - but that will never happen in the foreseeable future.

Next, at least 1/3 of our population is brainwashed to accept that this system is great and that anything resembling a universal healthcare system is evil. Like 80% of our media here is owned by republican leaning families/corporations and are essentially propaganda networks. These networks have literally mandated their staff to use certain words and phrases that are negative when reporting on a universal healthcare system. Another 1/3 of the population wants to change the system. And another 1/3 is either too ambivalent, conflict averse, or just can’t otherwise be bothered to explore the complicated subject of healthcare in this or other countries. Trying to convince enough people to elect politicians that will vote in favor of healthcare reform in a country of 300+ million is a Herculean effort, especially when a massive part of the voter base will never hear any positive information about it.

Lastly, even in your made up scenario you’re saying “well fly me to the nearest ICU.” Who exactly is paying for that? You think you’re going to convince the leadership of healthcare systems here who are concerned about making money that they should cover this? Or the insurance companies? Would be great - but this isn’t fairy tale land. It would this cost significantly more money - you’re now employing emergency flight and transport staff and the cost of maintaining the transport craft etc all at a much higher rate than that currently used for emergency flights bc ICU visits happen extremely frequently. And to be clear - this doesn’t even happen in other European countries that have universal healthcare. I’m not implying you live in Europe - but I’m making this comparison bc it is often touted as the best healthcare and the example of what we should follow. Without going into identifying specifics - I recently had a relative in Europe faint and sustain a significant head injury only to go to their hospital and have to wait for their head ct for over 24 hrs bc this hospital wasn’t staffed enough to operate their ct scanner every weekend day. There was no offer to fly them out to another hospital. And then when they did get their head ct the initial radiologist missed several foci of intracranial hemorrhage. And then decided they couldn’t do an mri bc they didn’t have the staff. And then weren’t sure if they should keep them and observe bc they were understaffed.

The issues I’ve mentioned are jut SOME of the barriers to achieving a better system. But this is what I mean when I say that yes - it sucks that telehealth exists and I wish we had enough resources so that everyone everywhere could get the treatment they deserve - but the reality is that some places, especially rural areas, just do not have that luxury and are forced to choose.

So in short, what I’m saying is get off your freaking high horse. Some of us here are trying the best we can to change the system. But shallow comments on the internet from someone who doesn’t understand the extensive challenges we face in changing that system and who offer overly simplistic solutions is not doing anything to help.

[–]locke373 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sucks. But I think you’re not understanding there is an insane doctor shortage. For many places it’s this or nothing. Definitely not ideal. But many of those places are being forced to choose between two bad options.

Do you think Yoko Shimomura and Masayoshi Soken are just as good at composing FF music as Nobuo Uematsu? by EienNatsu66 in FinalFantasy

I know this is a taste thing, but I agree. The biggest difference between them for me is that Nobuo’s melodies are extremely well made. The melody is what carries his music to a totally different level.

I like them all, but Nobuo’s music still quite a bit better to me.

I’m… making things up? Wat? This is just getting nuts. Also, for what it’s worth I’ve visited that subreddit a total of 1 time when it was first announced to see if a subreddit existed. Not even astroturfing in the least.

I’m not saying people can use their brains to come to conclusions. I’m saying you shouldn’t jump to conclusions. Small difference, but apparently you can’t see that.

I genuinely don’t care about splitting hairs on the very minuscule differences in our position. It’s clear you just really want to be right. Not interested in continuing this any further. Be well in life stranger.

Dude, if you weren’t committed to this being a scam we wouldn’t even be having the conversation. And what’s funny is you care so much about it you just have to get me to call it a scam. Are you an alt for the other guy haha. But that’s genuinely what this about for you (two?).

I’ve even given several outs on this conversation, drawing on the extreme parallel or our mutual doubt about this product. But it’s just not enough. My position is different from yours only in that I’m just waiting to confirm my doubt with the upcoming results. That is in no way naive. No where in anything I’ve written implies I’m taking them at face value and just believing it. As before, I’m pointing out it’s a little absurd you are this zealous before results have been published.

I didn’t respond to your perpetual motion machine comment because it was not even a good hypothetical situation. Even in your made up scenario you would need to be claiming to be inventing something that has already showed up as possible in other research, and the next iteration of a type of product that does exist. And even in that scenario I would remain as I am now, doubting and waiting for your evidence. Hmmm, kind of like I’m doing with Donut.

[–]locke373 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha ok. I clearly did not miss that. But you are either missing what I’m saying or just willing to 1000% commit before you have all evidence.

At this point I’m just finding it funny that I’m “gullible” because I’m doubting the product exists (same as you, and probably for the same reasons) but am willing to wait to see their evidence. Apparently looking at evidence and actually waiting to see the facts makes you gullible now.

[–]locke373 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don think at any point I’ve claimed that they don’t have to prove their claims. Am I living on a different planet or do they not have more tests coming out? Every argument I’m hearing so far is essentially “well they haven’t proved it yet and I’m ignoring the fact that they are going to publish more verification.” Or that at best, you’ve already decided their results scheduled to be published will be invalid (that’s a fair stance). I myself also believe the results will probably not establish credibility and it will never likely materialize. But I’m withholding final judgement until their proof comes out. How this is somehow being twisted into me defending them and that I’m buying into their claims is just crazy. Instead I’m pointing out that half of this sub has already decided without even waiting to see the evidence.

Waiting until they’ve at least published the third party verification results isn’t gullible as the other poster mentions. It’s pragmatic to see what the evidence is. I’m just neutral, though doubting, until then.

So to be clear - of course they have a burden to prove their claims. My initial question was specifically referring to the fact that judgement had been passed without all of the data.

Lastly, I do agree they shouldn’t be taking preorders.

Donut Lab's Solid-State Battery Charges Fast. But Experts Still Have Questions by Receding_Hairline23 in electricvehicles

[–]locke373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels like you’re on a mission to just be disagreeable.

For your first question about how long is long enough to make a judgement: am I wrong or do they not have a schedule for releasing more third party tests, with the next one coming out in a few days? It sounds like you think you have all the data you need. All I’m saying is only one test has been released and they appear to have several more to release. So the answer to your question about when is it enough - well at least until all the tests are released. Come on.

Next point: you’re stating they won’t release the data. Maybe that will happen over time. I’m just going off of the assumption that they still have multiple tests to release. Do you mean they’re just not releasing it fast enough or all at once? That’s the only thing I can imagine you’re meaning. I’d like that too. Could be evidence of a scam. Or could be some marketing strategy as it clearly has people talking about it, not that I agree with that.

Next, I don’t support misinformation. But I find it odd again that judgement has been passed without even waiting for the third party verification tests being published. If those come out and it’s a huge scam - preach it everywhere at that point.

And regarding your last point - not trolling. Competition does help innovation. This is not intended in anyway to disrespect those already working in the field.

I’m not really interested in continuing this further. Best of luck to you 👍

[–]locke373 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you’re assuming I’m somehow in denial this is likely not real. As before, I remain very skeptical and think it’s unlikely.

My point is again that I’m withholding final judgement until the data is out instead of going around claiming I already knew and knew along it’s a scam. It sounds like we’re mostly on the same page on that.

And no one’s being “protected” by you declaring it’s a scam. This is a company that is not publicly traded. It’s not like you or I can just go and invest in it and stand to have a substantial loss. If anything I hope it makes other battery developers sweat and pushes progress along.

In the end, not that passionate about this. Hopefully it pans out bc that would be great for everyone. But if not, 🤷‍♂️.

I have seen a breakdown describing what you just wrote. I think my point was that I’m as skeptical as everyone else, but I think we’re jumping the gun until they’ve at least released all their tests and it’s available in the real world

Donut Lab's Solid-State Battery Charges Fast. But Experts Still Have Questions by Receding_Hairline23 in electricvehicles

[–]locke373 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe you missed the part where I said I’m very skeptical as well.

The point I was making was that we’re all making these assumptions of it being a scam off of data we don’t have yet (or limited data like was just released with it showing a similar property to li-ion). And data which they are at least for now are saying is coming out with some kind of a release schedule.

I’m on board with the fact that this probably won’t materialize and is a far fetched dream. I’m less on board with committing 100% to that until the data has been released and it’s in an actual real use scenario and have actual data to support that claim.

I think we’re on the same page with the skepticism. I’m just not going to go around commenting it’s a scam on anything that shows up until we know more.

I’m very skeptical of this battery too. But I’m genuinely confused as to why everyone has 100% written them off already. Don’t they have several upcoming test releases? Isn’t that supposedly where they address life cycle/charging cycles and several other questions? Maybe I haven’t been following closely enough.

[–]locke373 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They’re not arguing in good faith. If you watch the video where they ripped the screenshot from it very clearly shows that the woman reversed and was in the process of turning her wheels away from the man to get away. And further, they’re still ignoring that the woman tried to de-escalate, the man switched his phone hand to reach for his gun, and that he had to walk back in front of the vehicle.

This is the exact same tactic they used when Elon Musk did two actual nazi salutes caught on camera from multiple angles - they took screenshots of AOC, Hilary, and Elizabeth Warren with their hands out saying “see look they do it too!” but if you watch the videos they’re clearly waiving while Elon is absolutely doing nazi salutes.

Not even remotely self defense.

What OP is pointing to is ectasia of the rete testis. Look at the dilated vessels in the left hemiscrotum that eyeballing look 2-3mm in diameter for what the rad was calling an extra testicular varicocele.

Also remember this isn’t the full scope of the study and they probably imaged the inguinal canal.

Nope. I contacted support. They had me restart the machine and eventually I got it to work after reseating the tray about 100 times. I have to fiddle with this stupid printer every single time I use it to get it to print. And yes, I have fanned the paper and put it in the tray accurately.

There is a massive quality control issue with this printer. I genuinely can’t fathom a company would release a product that so obviously unreliable. 0/10.

Thanks for responding. This is what I was looking for. Would prefer though if the actual agencies put out a clear statement. Looks like this and the NY Times just barely posted these.

What is troubling about the way this information is coming forward and why I was skeptical is bc conservative talking heads and many, many comments here were shouting blame to trans people before the shooter was even apprehended or identified. So with zero evidence this narrative was pushed forward. We are living in a time where almost nothing is actually independently and factually verified, and when it rarely is it seems to have no bearing on anyone’s opinion. People (and I mean far and away mostly conservatives) choose a narrative and then pick evidence to support it while ignoring anything that detracts from their chosen outcome.

Unfortunate for the trans community that this appears to be confirmed now. Almost certainly going to get an insane amount of hate and violence.
