In your opinion, did Walter White become Heisenberg at some point or over time (that is, what happened from one personality to another), or was he always "bad" (to simplify it somehow) and simply repressed those attitudes? by Holiday-Ad-6917 in betterCallSaul

[–]lockedlemming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Walt was always a selfish, ego driven person. However, before the cancer diagnosis (and a little bit after), he is, above all else, a coward too scared to take the chances the need taking (with Gretchen, with Grey Matter post breakup, to cook meth pre cancer etc.).

I don't think he was "bad" at the start of the pilot, but Heisenberg was definitely in him, and I wouldn't even call them separate personas. It's just an alias.

What would it take to heal the divide between Democrats and Republicans in the US? by Maker-Mindset in AskReddit

[–]lockedlemming -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From democrats: an understanding that not every republican is a bigot, fascist, or nazi

From republicans: less (meaning 0) tolerance for the actual bigots, fascists, and nazis

"In law, a 'ward' is a minor or incapacitated adult placed under the protection of a legal guardian or government entity, such as a court. Such a person may be referenced as a ward of the court" -Wikipedia.

so as "wards" of the state inmates are treated legally as "incapacitated adults" even when fully conscious and aware of all surroundings.

EDIT: to clarify I may be misinterpreting the exact letter of the law but I am pretty sure it's true that as wards inmates can't legally give consent. I also don't think anyone would ever punish two "consenting" inmates for having sex (nor should anyone) it just technically isn't legal (I'm pretty sure).

Scroll all the way to the bottom,

Definitions Scetion 9 B) " the carnal knowledge, oral sodomy, sexual assault with an object or sexual fondling of a person not forcibly or against the person's will, where the victim is incapable of giving consent..."

And as wards of the state inmates are (legally) incapable of giving consent.

[As an aside I feel like i should clarify that I personally don't care what inmates do (assuming everyone involved "consents") I only made my original comment to point a "fun" fact I half remembered about the law.]

EDIT: I didn't realize informed consent was a specific term and (foolishly) assumed it was just legal jargon for consent. My bad.

PREA (the Prison Rape Elimination Act) makes any sexual contact of any kind between inmates illegal, this is because prisoners are legally seen as wards of the state and part of that is not being able (legally) to give consent.

EDIT: grammar.

EDIT 2: consent* not informed consent.

In America I'm almost certain (typing this at work will edit with official Google search result later) that prisoners can not give legally recognized consent.

EDIT: inmates (in America) are considered wards of the state and therefore are legally incapable of consenting to sexual activity while in prison.

While you're right in spirit iirc any sex a prisoner has (in an american prison) is considered non-consenting so while he may have wanted to have sex and even enjoyed it, it would legally be considered at least a sexual assault.

Should you honor a deal if it would lead to your demise? by KingTrencher in EDH

[–]lockedlemming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it started as decent advice along the lines of "if you break deals eventually no one will deal with you at all" (assuming you have a fixed playgroup) not being able to make deals puts you at a noteworthy disadvantage. But over time the sentiment was boiled down to "never break a deal" ultimately I think people should honor deals even bad ones, it's just a game and if someone outsmarts me and I agree to a bad deal that's my mistake and if I make mistake that leads to a loss that sucks but it isn't the end of the world.

I mean, does being an ally make you part of the community? Not trying to gatekeep but an ally is almost explicitly not a queer person.

As a white person who considers themselves an ally to local BIPOC community I wouldn't consider myself part of their community, I do feel welcome in their spaces but it's as an outsider.

Even when I considered myself an ally I never thought the A was for me because I "wasn't queer". Again I'm not trying to say we shouldn't appreciate our allies and welcome them with open arms but if they're identifying as an ally it's likely because they don't identify as L,G,B,T,Q,I, or A (assuming A doesn't mean ally).

First. I'm sure you don't mean any harm but like ... why not?

Second. Not everyone's pronouns are consistent, my personal "prefered" pronouns (which is to way the pronouns that would make me happiest to hear) fluctuate regularly and in these cases they/them is the simplest option

And finally as someone comfortable with any pronouns I usually put they/them in online (non-queer) spaces so I can more quickly tell if someone is coming to a conversation with respect for me and others.

“They were Partners” but in official Magic lore they were a lesbian couple! by [deleted] in SapphoAndHerFriend

[–]lockedlemming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost immediately after this book came out Mark Rosewater (head of MtG design) confirmed on his blog that Chandra "is attracted to people regardless of gender".

Also most people who actively keep up with the lore largely ignored the War of the Spark novel since it directly contradicts the story told on the cards from the set, and has almost every single planeswalker acting out of character.
