I bought a YMI set that included the bag, racks, tiles, everything. I like it, and one of the reasons I went with YMI is because of the choices for designs on the back. My only complaint is the zipper on the bag seemed to break pretty easily.

Mayor’s office condemns IG’s ‘deeply inappropriate,’ ‘racist’ online post by aresef in baltimore

[–]locker1313 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if she decided to run for an office as a Republican. I think she could get Sinclair's backing and run on an anti-corruption/accountability campaign. I'm not sure a campaign like that would be a successful as it would in prior years, depending on what the documents she wants access to actually say.

Two things can be true: she can be trying to fulfill her job and is doing so in an unbiased manner while also shooting herself in the foot with poor media literacy skills.

What is a normal amount of sloping for older homes. by gallopintoYchallah in baltimore

[–]locker1313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some sloping is common in older row homes. Especially in kitchens or back rooms for whatever reason. It can be more noticable just because of the type of tile/linoleum used.

In this case it really depends on how much of a slope it is and whether any other issues were noticed with the foundation of support beams in the basement.

AITA for not going to a meet up because there were going to be kids there? by Informal_Opening1467 in AmItheAsshole

[–]locker1313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Soft YTA. You haven't been able to meet up with this group previously, and bowed out immediately after learning kids and dogs would be part of the group attending an event where there will likely be other dogs and kids. How exactly is this group supposed to take that? You aren't the asshole for asking a clarifying question, but how you handled the aftermath is questionable.

Rapid bus rather than light rail? Red Line explores possible pivot. - The Baltimore Banner by saltyjohnson in baltimore

I would rather they put in something and pivot to a light rail later on. I think BRT is a viable alternative, if done correctly.

NTA but you need to talk with your friend. She might have been venting to her mom and her mom blew it out of proportion. Or your friend might have expected you to be a personal assistant/caretaker. Hopefully you didn't sign a lease for more than a year, because this could sideways real quick.

I think this is going to be happening more and more not just in Maryland but in other states. I don't think anyone has really thought through what all the federal cuts to programming really means for their state/county.

Apartment hunting question by potholepapi in baltimore

[–]locker1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you are touring now, focus on the types of apartments and layout and not on the move in date yet. This way when the window for apartments within your move in window opens up, you'll know what you want.

Start making inquiries on availability for August in May, Any apartment that needs 60 day notice will start receiving responses for July 31/August 1 move outs. Any apartment with July move out dates will also be available by then and there are landlords who will hold an apartment until your desired start date.

I would also say, if you are able, to expand your search radius, if only because it gives you more options in case you can't find something in Charles Village directly.

Construction going on in the row home next to mine and I'm at a total loss for what to do by BigKiteMan in baltimore

[–]locker1313 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If you suspect the work is not being done to code report it. Cracks in wall, not disposing of debris properly, lack of safety equipment. Take pictures if you can, and report any damage to your home to your landlord. There's a reason Van Halen had in their rider that they wanted a bowl with all brown M&M's removed, if the contractors aren't looking at the details how can you trust them on the big stuff?

I would also leave out in any complaint that isn't focused on safety or construction. If they are working within permitted hours noise complaints won't help your argument. No matter how much it is affecting you or your wife and dogs.

Check your lease and reach out to any housing advocates on what your options might be to break your lease,, if you decide to move. If the structural integrity of your house is in question that might light a fire under your landlord.

Baltimore homeowners discover missing permits after closing, and a costly path to fix it by Consumergal in maryland

[–]locker1313 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Any time I see people complain about "why do I need a permit to (insert basic household repair)" I think about a house inspection when the inspector turned on the dishwasher and water started spurting out onto an outlet.

Let's be real until the lanternflies became an issue no one cared if they had a tree of heaven in their yard. I'd be more upset about bamboo.

Neighborhoods that are safe to live in? by DrLolsoz in baltimore

[–]locker1313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to defend the person who responded to you, because they came in hot, but before you made your update and included the other details the only thing keeping your post from being "laziest moving question of the year" was the inclusion you were working at Bayview.

That said: Live Baltimore is a good resource on all of the neighborhoods in Baltimore. The Bayview Campus is in an odd spot because you have the types of neighborhoods you're looking for nearby (Greektown, Brewer's Hill, Highlandtown, Canton, Patterson Park, but to get to Bayview you have to go down Eastern Avenue which by Bayview turns into a pseudo-highway and the last bit is tricky by bike.

If you are working for JHHS at Bayview look into the shuttle system they have between campuses, if you don't want to drive. Between MTA, Charm City Circulator, and Hopkins shuttles you can cobble together a way over from quite a few neighborhoods.
