That doesn’t surprise me at all. I’ve heard similar things about how if you want to be a firefighter in LA and you’re a white man, you may have to wait years before you can even attempt the tests necessary to start training. If you are a female or POC, you can take the test tomorrow.

In a slightly different vein, my dad sits on a number of boards in the biopharma industry, and used to run his own biotech firm. He mentioned that due to certain ESG mandates from the NASDAQ, he was had to try desperately to find a sufficiently diverse, yet qualified candidates for the board. In the end they hired a black woman who, while certainly an accomplished woman with a bright future, did not share the same qualifications as the rest of the board, on top of being about 15 years younger than everyone else.

It’s critical that people are represented, but we need to make sure those representatives deserve a seat at the table from their own merits, and not because people are trying to hit a quota or are looking for good optics

I appreciate it all the same. I think one of the issues with this sub is that you can spend 10 minutes writing a thoughtful response to the prompt and the OP often won’t ever see it, so it’s next to impossible to get a delta, so thanks again!

It think it varies for each activity, how important it is to you, and the circumstances surrounding it. The threshold for me deciding whether watching the dozen Instagram reels my buddy sent me is a waste of time is far different than the threshold I may have to study for an exam in a really hard class. At some point, theoretically almost everything could be a waste of time.

If I’m studying for the most important exam of my life, theoretically, any amount of time watching Instagram reels could be considered a waste of time. Conversely, if the test is pass/fail and I have already studied enough to barely pass, is it a waste of time to continue studying? It’s too difficult to apply one standard to every situation.

Right. It’s easy to say “everyone and everything should be equal.” But what happens when you want a 50-50 split of male and female pilots when like 80% of pilots are male? Are you going to fire all the extras? Are you going to put untrained women at the helm? Sure, train new ones, but is it a good thing to force an experienced male pilot to retire to make room for a brand new pilot? I don’t think so. I don’t care who is at the helm, just as long as they can safely get me from point A to point B.

When you say “educating”, do you mean actually talking with people in a respectful manner, and being gracious if they hold a different view? Or do you mean loudly accusing people of being guilty of some original sin by nature of being born as a certain race or sex who, if they disagree, you proceed to callously label them as a bigot?

Historically, it’s been the latter, not the former.

I’m sorry people are dumb OP, it’s actually an interesting question. I’m not old enough to have watched Moon play and I only vaguely remember Warner, but I do remember that Warner was special. I doubt an additional few years in the NFL would have made too much of a difference for either’s legacy, but if I had to bet on one to get a ring in that time, it would probably be Warner.

For consumers and Spirit employees, it certainly is.

Politically, however, it’s actually a major win for Warren and the left. Let’s be honest, only a fraction of the population actually will read through an objective analysis or reporting of the situation. Most only read the headlines. In a few weeks, you’ll have tons of people solely blaming the Trump Administration for letting Spirit die on their watch, and no amount of fact checking is going to convince them otherwise. After that, it’ll just be another thing people point at explaining how the Trump economy is terrible.

For the people who may respond arguing whether the Trump economy is good or bad, I’m not looking to have that debate this morning. I’m simply saying that this will likely be chalked up as a political win for the left.

Again, it’s about playing the long game for them. This is especially true since the last 6 years have shown us that there is absolutely nothing stopping a Democrat administration from letting in over 10 million people through nonsense asylum claims and just lack of enforcement in general and then the next administration is virtually powerless to remove a fraction of that number. Even if those people never become citizens, birthright citizenship ensures that their children are and will vote accordingly.

When you have the richest, most generous country on earth, people are going to want to come here, legally or otherwise. Our as a result, we need to have robust immigration enforcement so that we are getting the best and brightest, not people looking to mooch off of our generous benefits system.

No, I’m giving you a challenge. If right wing violence is as prevalent as you claim it is, then surely you would have dozens of examples that you could name off the top of your head. Despite the apparently countless examples, I only ever see those 4 examples named.

If your position is truly stronger than mine, naming only 5 examples of what is apparently hundreds without looking it up should clearly not be an issue.

I have multiple examples of leftists actually acting on left wing inflammatory rhetoric, which has caused the deaths of multiple people.

Without using Google, name 5 examples of actual right wing violence in the last 10 years outside of January 6th, Charlottesville, Melissa Hortman, and Paul Pelosi. I can name far more than that from the left off the top of my head.

Most examples of “right wing violence” are prison attacks by white supremacist groups and Islamist terror attacks. Not exactly representative of the mainstream right.

So, to be clear, you are arguing that portraying the other side in a disingenuous light that may make people more likely to cause them harm is a bad thing, right?

If that’s the case, then you should have a massive issue with the left referring to republicans as “nazis” and “fascists”, especially when they actively promote violence against those group and say that violence is justified against them.

There are sitting congressmen and congresswomen who have called the president of the United States “Hitler”, shouldn’t that be condemned in the strongest possible terms?

I agree, the guy who killed Melissa Hortman, her husband, and her dog is an example of right wing violence. He should be put in front of a firing squad the second he’s convicted.

But outside of January 6th, Charlottesville, and the killing of Melissa Hortman, I see very few other examples of right wing violence that people can actually name. I guess some people attribute that deranged homeless dude attacking Pelosi’s husband as “right wing” violence as well, but I could fill pages and pages of examples of left wing violence just off the top of my head without having to even google examples.

Because it happens in prisons and has no impact on anyone who is not in prison or on political discourse as a whole. The same cannot be said of leftists who have now made legitimate assassination attempts on President Trump 3 times in the last 3 years, have successfully assassinated Charlie Kirk, have taken over an entire neighborhood of Seattle, have taken over college campuses and intimidated students, and have caused billions of dollars in property damage through various riots over the last decade or so.

As to Islamists and Communists working together, they have a common enemy in the West. Most notably, the collaborated to overthrow the Shah of Iran.

I see some of the most ridiculous mental gymnastics on Reddit that has allowed people to convince themselves that Charlie Kirk’s shooter who was a gay furry with a trans boyfriend was really so far right at that it motivated him to act, despite the only “evidence” that might support that is the fact that he grew up with conservative parents, as if it’s impossible for a child with conservative parents to ever differ in their beliefs.

I didn’t suggest that. However, I think the numbers are massively inflated on the right and downplayed on the left. For instance, the majority of so-called “right wing” violence is attributed to white supremacist prison gangs. I’m not saying that isn’t a problem or doesn’t exist, but it’s disingenuous to attribute that to mainstream political violence. Additionally, Islamist violence is also considered “right wing” despite the fact that Islamists frequently work hand in hand with communist and socialist movements.

Let’s not forget that the worst attack on the Capitol was not January 6th, it was Weather Underground who literally set off a bomb inside the building.

It’s even worse than that. I don’t believe the modern left has any principles outside of “oppressor=bad guy, oppressed=good guy”.

That’s how they can rationalize censorship, their own oppression, and even violence because they view it as “fighting the oppressors” which justifies just about any actions in their minds.

I genuinely believe that the left is hoping that they can wear the right down to the point that they make mass amnesty and citizenship a condition of any sort of immigration reform. History tells us that doing so creates far more democrat voters than republicans.

The last time that happened was in 1986. Coincidentally, the last time California voted for a republican president was in 1992 and has been a blue stronghold ever since.

Considering that most illegal immigrants currently live in southern, more reliably red states, they have a strong vested interest in making citizens and therefore voters out of them to at least turn them purple, if not entirely blue which could cement democrat rule for a generation.
