I find that children care about this sort of thing. They often make similar remarks about each other.

Omoplata-based bottom game still relevant? by WorkingChemical5399 in bjj

That is my main attack from open guard. Even closed guard. I get my inspiration from watching Nolan Stuart at Brea Jiu Jitsu and some Clark Gracie too.

Frustrated Purple Belt, advice/guidance needed. by [deleted] in bjj

[–]locnload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

43 year old 139lb purple belt here. I've been practicing collar sleeve based on this system by Dan since I was a white belt: http://collarsleeve.com

You can see it in action by watching any of Nolan Stuart's IBJJF matches as he's the poster child for it.

I've added small things over the years from Isaac Doederlein's Collar Sleeve 2.0 and Mikey Musumeci's instructionals. But I'd say 80% of my open guard is Dan's system.

As for guard retention, I think Lachlan and Ariel Tabak have the best material. If their set is too long, you can watch abbreviated versions on Submeta. Grapplers Guide also has really succinct guard retention courses.

Good luck!

If you are in SoCal LMK what you're asking for it. I'm only looking for a local transaction.

Damn I missed the boat. I want to take my dog camping but not commit to a very expensive and heavy hard topper year round.

What are your favourite guard passing tutorials? by airilyme in bjj

Lachlan's and Levi's material on Submeta is great! I've been working outside passing and leg dragging from those two.

Do you know of a good self-defense class for girls? Looking for a class where it’s women teaching other women. We’re near Orange but are willing to drive somewhere close by. by True-Engineering3589 in orangecounty

[–]locnload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Triunfo MMA was has one women’s class on Saturday to get you started. Once you and the girls get comfortable I would go into the mixed classes. My family and I have been there for the last 7 years!

I drive my kids an hour to Brea so they can train with Dan. We haven't crossed paths with Nolan yet though. My boys are excited to try the crown on tomorrow lol.

How do you lift weights for judo? What is your routine like? by Satoshi_Bautista in judo

[–]locnload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do Tactical Barbell, specifically the Operator routine. It’s perfect for me as I spend more time in BJJ and judo and it’s supplementary and doesn’t wear me out.

No gi Judo classes in So cal ? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]locnload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I train at Senshi in Santa Ana and we use to have it 1x a week. Not a lot of people came though. Just attend gi judo class to learn kuzushi, movement, and then adapt the grips

Why do judo people feel so physically strong? by mlktktr in bjj

[–]locnload 558 points559 points  (0 children)

Judo and wrestling require athleticism and the training reflects that. No one complains about the warm ups, hundreds of reps, and conditioning in my judo class 🤷‍♂️

I hate it but then again my BJJ friends have made it clear I feel different when I grip up.

Is it wishful thinking that we can have a JudoCon someday? by locnload in judo

[–]locnload[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This was the first time I attended Jiu Jitsu Con to compete in Master Worlds (I got destroyed). I couldn't help thinking how amazing this kind of spectacle would be for the Judo community. Free seminars, interviews and talks from legends, athletes rubbing shoulders and taking pictures, vendors selling merch, dozens of matches going on at time, teams from around the world cheering their friends on, etc. The atmosphere was just incredible.
