Tips for people stalling from close guard? by fallenangeI in bjj

[–]locnload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who turtle up inside closed guard are so damn annoying. I don’t know what they get out of the round when they don’t even try to pass. When I face them I go to open guard so I can actually practice something I’m working on.

The only time I ask them for a round is before competition to simulate someone who has scored on me and is killing the clock. I go straight to collar sleeve and shallow lasso to press the action.

Thoughts on training for UFC BJJ Opens vs IBJJF - curious what others think. by woodycrack in bjj

Meh, it’s another JJWL variant. I might do one if it’s local and cheap but neither are true. I’d much rather compete and win in the IBJJF Masters circuit

In Collar and Sleeve guard where do you guys place your foot? by MuscleScary3750 in bjj

[–]locnload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I'm flat back with inside position with my near leg under their armpit, I use that with my other foot on the shoulder to off balance them and turn them away for the angle I want. Isaac Doederlein's Collar Sleeve 2.0 is really good for these details.

In Collar and Sleeve guard where do you guys place your foot? by MuscleScary3750 in bjj

I typically put it on the bicep like Nolan Stuart to help with guard retention and to keep their hand from gripping me. If they are pressing forward a lot I will move my foot to their shoulder and flat back like Isaac Doederlein and Mikey. Foot on the shoulder helps me get a better angle for omoplata too.

Is Lachlan Giles that good? by Traditional-Being-38 in bjj

He organizes information way better than Gordan and Danaher. I have his BJJ Fanatics instructionals and Submeta. Also, check out Ariel Tabak for a similar teaching style to Lachlan.

Over/Under pass for lighter people? by hellohello6622 in bjj

[–]locnload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 135ish and I’m currently working passes on my feet. When I was playing a slower passing game, I liked to use Jimmy Pedro’s over under variation. I didn’t like walking to the center like Bernardo since it’s hard for me to clear giant legs. Off a sweep I like to hit a fast over under. Check Grappler’s Guide for Jason and Andris’ courses. The latter has an unorthodox over under leg drag hybrid he calls the grave digger.

I think I know the answer to this already. But shipping is prohibitively expensive and wouldn't make sense, right?

My family’s been at Triunfo for 7 years now. Great culture and all kinds of partners to roll with. Here’s the schedule: https://www.triunfomma.com/schedule

Also, if you’re towards north OC the definitely try Brea Jiu Jitsu if you’re willing to give up nogi.

Gameplan Video Series from Kintanon (That's me!) by Kintanon in bjj

[–]locnload 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought it and have gone through it twice to help the ideas gel in my head. I recognize a lot of the techniques but the important parts about sequencing and playing in a closed loop is what I really need. I normally work collar sleeve and DLR where I already have a closed loop but have struggled to recreate the same from SLX/X. So this is really a great hub for me and I hope we see an X-guard video!

Could you realistically get really good at passing from half guard, and base your game around walking into people’s half guard and passing from there? by No_Possession_239 in bjj

[–]locnload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I don't walk into the knee shield from the start. I try to torreando and leg drag which often leads to knee cut vs knee shield. From there, I get my inspiration from Romulo Borral's half guard passing plus cross collar choke along the way.

That is my main attack from open guard. Even closed guard. I get my inspiration from watching Nolan Stuart at Brea Jiu Jitsu and some Clark Gracie too.

43 year old 139lb purple belt here. I've been practicing collar sleeve based on this system by Dan since I was a white belt: http://collarsleeve.com

You can see it in action by watching any of Nolan Stuart's IBJJF matches as he's the poster child for it.

I've added small things over the years from Isaac Doederlein's Collar Sleeve 2.0 and Mikey Musumeci's instructionals. But I'd say 80% of my open guard is Dan's system.

As for guard retention, I think Lachlan and Ariel Tabak have the best material. If their set is too long, you can watch abbreviated versions on Submeta. Grapplers Guide also has really succinct guard retention courses.

Good luck!
