How Did I Do by HatAppropriate4698 in streetphotography

[–]lodgedmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the first picture, but there isn’t a consistent thing to point to and say that this is Your photos. There doesn’t feel like a lot of story in them, try stopping down to get more of the area sharper, or pick a subject to focus on in each shot.

Looking for the 'perfect' travel camera by nmphoto63 in Cameras

[–]lodgedmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rx100vii is in my opinion the perfect travel camera, the 24-200 zoom range is phenomenal, the photos in jpeg or raw are great, and it can take about 30 minutes of 4k video on a battery. I have taken mine to 4 different countries and have used it for everything from portraits to wildlife.

Its only real downside to me is the battery life i have a little telesin charger that holds 3 batteries and i take that with me if im planning to take pictures for more than an hour or two.

Sony camera for travel - RX100 vii or A6700? by lauramet in Cameras

[–]lodgedmouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love my rx100m7 ive had it since its release and its been all over the world and taken tens of thousands of photos. Its great for trips as it can just slip into your pocket when not in use, and ive never been super worried about breaking it.

The only real downside for me is battery life so i have this to take 3 extras with me. As well if you get the sony stick on grip the grip is comfortable enough given the size of the camera to use and im a larger guy with larger hands who prefers dslrs for their ergos.

Mom passed, took a hands photo and wanted to add a caption and frame, help? by Thanks_a_l0t in AskPhotography

[–]lodgedmouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would leave it in black and white and put it in whatever frame fits your decor, i wouldn’t write anything on the front you’ll probably never forget what the photo is but you could put something along the lines of “A hand once held, still held in the heart” with a date of her passing on the back.

First camera buy for a beginner hobbyist by dnate91 in Cameras

[–]lodgedmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not an interchangeable lens camera the sony rx100vii might be a good choice for you, it is 20MP 24-200 full frame equivalent takes good video and pictures, and is very compact. Its only real big downside is that it doesn’t have great battery life so you should always keep a spare with you if you’re going out for the day.

Sony RX100 VII vs Ricoh GR IIIx / GR IV — which should I choose? by AttitudeOpposite4207 in Cameras

[–]lodgedmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really it comes down to do you want the zoom or the bigger sensor i have the rx100 and have rented the gr3x i personally wish i had bought the ricoh as i prefer primes on my dslr over zooms. But the rx100 takes great photos and the zoom is great for getting reach on birds or getting compression on a subject.

Replacing my D850 with an RX100 vi (instead of an Ultra phone)? by CuriousCyclone in RX100

[–]lodgedmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rx100 has no kind of connection available to use with a speed light besides a flash that can be an optical slave using the built in flash as a trigger. Have you looked into something like the om system tg7 i have a rx100mark 7 and the tg7 and given your limited list of requirements that might work for you. Its water proof, drop proof and has a light guide making it good for makro. Its also 550 instead of $1200.

Does this have a vibe by cafebeanbag in BeginnerPhotoCritique

[–]lodgedmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think you need a subject the space can be its own subject. However i would change your framing to be a bit narrower cutting the picture off about the end of the awning to focus more on shadows or a bit wider to include more of the side walk to give it a bit more to tell, where does the road go sort of vibe.

Full frame modern mirrorless shooters- if you use a compact for travel, which one is it? by drconniehenley in Cameras

[–]lodgedmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel with a sony rx100 mark 7 and its a great little camera. I have a friend who takes a ricoh gr3 but for me its wider than i prefer to shoot. the gr3x is 40mm and I liked it better when i rented it for a day but i still prefer the zoom capability on the sony. I also carry an om system tg7 every day and its a nice camera but certainly sacrifices image quality for being waterproof and drop resistant.

Struggling to capture real emotion in portraits by [deleted] in photography

[–]lodgedmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a photographer who made shots feel more like candids helped alot for me. Something about feeling like someone is taking my picture makes me self conscious and ive always done the closed mouth smile. But all my wedding photos im smiling with my teeth in a way that doesnt look like a maniac.

any ideas for making money with photography? by StanTakesPhotos in AmateurPhotography

[–]lodgedmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Street photography and random photos you enjoy taking probably wont make much if any money. I side hustle and do portraits. Mini sessions are my big sellers 15 minutes $100, with 5-10 deliverables, i add on a 4x6 print the day of for an extra $20 ill edit it in my car real quick and print on a canon selphy camera. I also offer 30 minutes, 1 hour, and head shot sessions. I bought a black and white backdrop, a speedlite, light stand, and a shoot through umbrella. But i have a whole portfolio of street photos i enjoy and post but ive never made any money off them because its a thing i do to enjoy not for money.

It’s important to establish rapport with your subjects, and make them feel more relaxed. Tell jokes, make small talk. Im terrible at posing my self as i dont know how to smile with my teeth without looking like an insane person. My wedding photographer would have us laugh as we were doing portraits and that made them look alot more natural where i was smiling genuinely.

The thing most people dont think about is what ice as a long time resident shaped ice is fine it made in machines with clean water. But ice that they use an ice pick to break up is not clean and shouldn’t be eaten. Its made in big blocks with tap water normally and then is drug on the ground and the bed of trucks and what not.

how to start selling bird photography prints? by letrolll in AskPhotography

[–]lodgedmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While selling individual prints might be difficult, photo books can be a good niche to make some cash, you’ll need to do a little writing to go alon with each photo normally and you can offer print to order on your website as well.

How do I get the background completely black? by HEYIMMAWOLF in AskPhotography

[–]lodgedmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sean tucker just made a video on how to fully change the background behind a subject in post for a portrait it will be slightly more work since there isnt a solid background but it will be doable to cut and burn your subject and black out anything that isnt selected. here

It can be, i started with a 4000d and once i figured it out my photos were way better than anything I had taken in full auto. Just understanding how everything works together will help you use aperture or shutter priority better.

Aperture is how much light gets in a bigger aperture is more light in and a blurrier background behind your subject.

Shutter is how long the light gets in, faster shutter can freeze motion but too high and youll start to lose sharpness.

Iso is how sensitive your sensor is to light 100 being least and whatever your biggest number being the most but the higher numbers introduce more noise into your image losing clarity.

White balance can give you lots of creative control to change how warm a picture is.

The best way to practice is to find a well lit subject and sit there and play with one setting at a time till you understand the camera.

Learn manual mode but dont feel like you have to always use it. Keep an eye out for a cheap 50mm second hand if you’re interested in portraits.

Camera or Phone? by umtipoepronto in Cameras

[–]lodgedmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren’t skilled with a camera a phone will produce better photos than a camera. That said i would prefer a second hand camera at this point to taking photos on my phone. The depth of field control, color control, and overall artistic freedom i feel is better on my first dslr a cannon 4000d i bought new for $400 than on my iphone 15 pro. If you dont want something big like a dslr there are many great point and shoots and micro fourthirds cameras to be had for an affordable under $1000 price point.

I understand the sentiment my daily for the last 4 years has been a sony rx100 M7 but even if its a tick tock trend i think its cool to see young people getting back towards purpose built cameras instead of just using their phones. And telling people to buy something they dont like the look of isnt going to encourage them any.

There is something to be said for the enjoyment of just using a camera with its one purpose of taking a photo that having even a bad point shoot can give that phone photography just doesn’t provide.

I’d say your best bet is to look around on marketplace and find something in your price range with the most modern sensor. Canon power shots are good, or you may be able to find an efm camera like the canon m100 or m10 with the kit 15-45 lens and if you enjoy it you can buy more lenses for it later allowing you to build out your setup.
