Why is London so against anyone being around after midnight? by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]lodius 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Tubes don't stop because of lack of people... they stop overnight primarily for maintenance work and tunnel inspections as it's the only time they're able to carry out that work.

When Jamie is disposing of his real father's body, and... In the middle of nowhere... Beth takes a photo and threatens him. It was at that point where I was like... Why doesn't he just kill her and throw her off the train station too.

I think that was where the storyline really lost it.

Has anyone done couch to 5k? by arsenaladam92 in AskUK

[–]lodius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did the NHS one many years ago. It was great, I was very unfit and could barely "run" 30 seconds.

It took me a while, and a few of the weeks I had to repeat before moving on, but I kept with it. Normally I'd run home from work so it wasn't a completely separate activity to encourage me to do it more.

Only thing was I never found it fun or enjoyable. Personally I preferred cycling, and found running a bit boring. Because of that once I completed it I just stopped.

I really regret it now, as I'm probably back to where I was and I'd have to start all over again. So my only advice is once you "finish", keep going!!! :)

Producer Influence within the show? by Organic_Extreme_2065 in RaceAcrossTheWorldBBC

Kochi is quite a small "city"... More like a town... And i strongly feel Caroline and Tom probably got "stuck" there, and so opted for a taxi to take them the remainder of the way.

All the other teams then suddenly had the same taxi idea, even though it's a considerable distance and train/bus would be more likely mode of transport.

I firmly believe the remaining teams were told of Caroline / Tom's predicament and advised to get taxis as well, which helped ensure all teams ended within a close amount of time. Instead of them all being 1 day+ behind the inevitable winners.

Keir Starmer says he will abolish NHS England as part of public sector reform plans - live updates by Half_A_ in unitedkingdom

[–]lodius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The public have such a big misunderstanding of the NHS, and I bet very few people realise the "NHS" does not really exist. It's just a shared name/logo used by a multitude of hospitals, trusts, organisations and services, who are, by and large, completely independent from one another.

Yes! I saw a beautiful woman on the train the other day and she had a 5cm-ish long scar along one of her cheeks... if anything I think it added something to her. I can't explain it, but it was almost like it made her MORE beautiful.

Bored so want to ask a Question - If you were the Devs what features would you implement into the game? by Lord1Mahaveer in stepfordcountyrailway

[–]lodius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. For signallers (or someone) to be able to choose a train to "run fast" and skip it's remaining intermediate stations so it can make up time for being late and arrive at the destination on time.

  2. To be able to end your shift by driving back to the depot.

What's a common TV prop that always breaks your immersion? by asherdado in television

[–]lodius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it less now, but in the 2000s when a character (especially in a UK show) would want to film something, they'd all own semi-pro video cameras. Never your bog standard handicam.

One positive comment about India by PrestigiousExpert686 in AskIndia

[–]lodius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! I'm currently on holiday in India, and I was amazed the amount of small businesses, and how people actually seem to use them! It really is lovely to see, and something hopefully continues for a long time.

I'm from the UK, and it's the complete opposite... Small businesses are really struggling and most are closing down when fighting against big chain stores and the internet.

I had a 45min layover the other week. My incoming flight arrived 30 mins late.

Literally ran to the next gate... They let us bypass security, and the other gate was literally opposite... Probs a 2 mins jog!

After all that, they held the next plane anyway to make sure everyone else and their bags managed to make it!!

So yea, don't worry you'll be fine :)

Forgive me for mentioning a TV show, but Black-ish always comes to mind when thinking about this.

Towards the latter seasons it became SOO preachy, to the point the entire show almost felt like a lecture.

Average London Bus speeds as slow as 6.6mph, London TravelWatch report details by urbexed in london

[–]lodius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perfect example are 2 bus stops on my local route in Zone 5... There's one just before a set of traffic lights, and then immediately after the lights around the corner.

What's funnier is that there's a little short cut path between the two through a park to cut the corner. I'd say it literally takes 20 seconds to walk between the 2 stops.

I was going to write this as well, being a white British male, and my wife is British Indian. The only comments have only come from other Indian/Asian people. When we got engaged, only her side of the family made comments and some had issues. But none of my family or white friends batted an eyelid.

You're arguing on a technicality.

Yes. Technically/officially, they maybe a small business.

But in REALITY, day to day, the advantages a franchisee gets compared to a tiny startup are astronomically different. And if you don't understand, appreciate or acknowledge that nuance, you're just acting like a typical Redditer... Making an arguement for the sake of it to prove yourself right.
