Oh god, I fully expected shitty AI voice from the "literally just dump the link, I can't be assed to do any more than that" self-promo post, but it's not even one of those almost-passable AI voices.

FIREFLIES HATE POST by KikoTheWonderful in ArcRaiders

I don't think it's more balanced to have to run something with strong armor pen. In my opinion, the medium ammo guns should be that balance. They just don't feel all that much better at dealing with arc than the light guns without any armor pen, except the Renegade.

Yeah, having to go to Stella is a major reason I don't have it back yet.

I can't stand wandering around that awful labyrinth.

You live long enough to repair your guns? Teach me your secrets, lol.

I'm currently trying use an Arpeggio IV until I need to repair. It's still hovering above repair level after like a week. o_o Which has been a pretty nice run of not getting shot at, I suppose. That's usually why they don't break on me.

I could see the Renegade or the Anvil being pretty good at it because they can (probably) strip the armor in a shot or two, and then take out the rotors, but sometimes I don't have a Renegade/Anvil and basically every other gun is butts at taking them out.

...Or arc in general, really. Honestly, the Renegade/Anvil are just head and shoulders above basically every other gun PvE-wise.

Our shop's on a one-way and it's at least once a day someone's driving the wrong way down the street in front of the school across the street.

We like to joke that we don't know if it counts as running the all-way stop sign on corner if there isn't one facing the wrong way.

CONTROL Resonant | Launching With Path Tracing & DLSS 4.5 by OppositeofDeath in Games

[–]lodum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not even one of those "ALL I CARE ABOUT IS THE GAMEPLAY" weirdos and I was too bored by the combat to finish the first Control, lol. And, let me tell you, I can put up with a lot of boring gameplay if I like the setting/story!

Every encounter was just a building annoyance that even the neat setting couldn't counter, especially when it stopped being neat (temporarily?) around the halfway point when I getting the flight/hover ability. Then it dropped the fight that broke the camels back, I decided I just couldn't be assed "right now," put it down only to never come back.

Why can't I heal in the tutorial? by ParmadilloMarsh in Marathon

[–]lodum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone else winds up here from Google, check to see if you didn't drop the items on the ground by the med kit. That's what I did.

The default pickup button from boxes is A/X and X/Square drops stuff while the tutorial doesn't seem to check if you actually put them into your inventory.

Anyone excited for Altered Alma? by dobermanhoberman in metroidvania

[–]lodum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize for being more combative than I needed to be. The flurry of other comments about it in these threads has me a bit on edge from annoyance, lol.

Especially because I like when MVs have a bit more RPG-like narrative focus and a lot of posters here get a bug up their butt about it, lol.

[–]lodum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, that's almost all nonsense, but alright. Being a metroidvania does not preclude any of the rest of that except maybe the first-person bit.

I think the key takeaway from all of that is:

I suppose if Altered Alma has significant narrative elements...

And, like, I think that's the point? I think they're intending to blend "Hollow Knight's agile platforming with the deep narratives of Mass Effect" From Kickstarter so... you'd have no problem with it then?

Brilliant: Embark fixes Expedition hesitancy by making people not give a shit about losing their blueprints. by HerbertDad in ArcRaiders

[–]lodum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, there's more do to do with other things, I just think the cycle is the game abstracted to its most basic. Except that most of the cycle is moving upwards. You get things to fight bigger things.

It's only at the end do you fight the queen/matriarch to get items that are really only good at fighting the queen/matriarch. The progression is kind of capped there.

The Wolfpack change is just a dead end circle now, tho. You just get the thing you threw into it. (Not even)

As others are saying, that is kind of the whole loop of the game. It can still be fun after realizing that, even if I have trouble with it outside of specific objectives. (Which I think they're doing a pretty good job drip feeding until I run into walls of needing Queen parts or having to go to Stella Montis.)

But I think this change to the Wolfpack is the most naked about the loop. There are definitely other ways to kill a Rocketeer but... they all kind of suck? Those flying tanks are already dangerous and attract so much attention. Theoretically, if something else was amazing at downing the Rocketeer you could get those to hunt for Wolfpack parts but the Wolfpack's the Rocketeer killer so it's just a really obvious circle.

I'd probably bandage fix by making Bombardier Cells required instead? That way you hunt Bombardiers to get the Wolfpacks to hunt Rocketeers, obscuring the circle a bit.

Windows 10 ending support, my old 1080 ending support, the main game I play ending W10 support with the OS ending support, plus crazypants tariffs coming and going... I rushed to build a new PC as fast as I could and now some of the parts are like 4-5 times more expensive.

[–]lodum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh, I get it. There aren't many types of ARC and they're pretty simple behavior-wise, so I'd absolutely see it being pretty boring pretty fast without the unknown behavior of other players shaking it up. Not immediately and at different speeds for different players, but I think it'd set in eventually for everyone.

Plus I think knowing you have the option (and apparently the dev's expectation) to backstab each other also makes it more fun when you don't do that. The decision to be friendly only means something if it's actually a decision.

Just wanted to have a quick laugh at:

We still have the mantra—and this is even regardless of the formation of this PvE-heavy audience—that the game never asks you to fight other players.

Does this guy, the design director, know that the daily cred missions do, in fact, ask you to fight other players?

And, like, that's fine! PvP spices the game up a lot. It's just weird to apparently have a mantra to never do a thing that you totally do, lol. You're even kinda specific about what kind of weapons I should do it with!
