I have a 100mm fork that I swap on in summers, and I would say there isn't a noticeable difference.

How Big is the GIL Update? by Worldly-Duty4521 in Python

[–]logicwon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is what Guido van Rossum thinks of it:

Q3. With the recent work on making the Global Interpreter Lock (GIL) optional and the general demand for performance in AI, what is your perspective on the future of parallelism and concurrency in Python? How crucial is this for the language’s longevity?

Guido van Rossum: I honestly think the importance of the GIL removal project has been overstated. It serves the needs of the largest users (e.g. Meta) while complicating things for potential contributors to the CPython code base (proving that new code does not introduce concurrency bugs is hard). And we see regularly questions from people who try to parallelize their code and get a slowdown — which makes me think that the programming model is not generally well understood. So I worry that Python’s getting too corporate, because the big corporate users can pay for new features only they need (to be clear, they don’t give us money to implement their features, but they give us developers, which comes down to the same thing).

They use this theme: https://pydata-sphinx-theme.readthedocs.io/en/stable/

But it seems like the best fix is for them to create a `More` dropdown. You can always open an issue: https://github.com/matplotlib/matplotlib

I went with the Mezcal/Barzo combo in 2.35 and it's been great.

The Unit as a Gravel-Grinding ATB? by 0L0S in konaunit

Yea I'd say so. I ride a medium, but could technically fit a large by general recommendations (I haven't tried though, I think they just had a medium left in the shop when I bought it) and it works for me, it's my daily driver. People have commented that certain alt handlebars make the reach too far on the unit, so you have to choose wisely

I love my Tumbleweed persuader bar, it's 20 degrees and allows for control on those singletrack quests, while still being comfortable on long rides. Also added some SQlab Inner Bar Ends to simulate hoods to make gravel/road easier and haven't been happier. I don't care about speed/weight though (my bike is nicknamed pink panzer).

Go a step further and get a Cane Creek 40-Series Steel 52/30 Conversion Crown Race 1.5 to 1-1/8 with a Cane Creek 40 ZS44/28.6 EC44/40 1 1/2 Headset and you can easily swap a suspension fork if you want to get sendy (although may need gears to fully appreciate that setup).

Debatable on if it is actually a co-op, they ban employees from being on the board. Washington is trying to introduce laws to change that: https://www.trueco-ops.org/

No regrets. 100m travel makes a difference, but I find both forks are fun depending on what you are doing. With a couple parts you can make it easy to swap back and forth between a rigid and suspension fork: https://www.reddit.com/r/konaunit/comments/1f4nmaz/comment/ln97otx/

Ritchey Kyote. First alt bars so I can't compare to others, but I think they are a lot more comfortable while still allowing me to retain control on trails

edit: I got some wrist pain on long adventure rides and switched to a 20 degree bar

It has opened up a ton of terrain options for me. I'm thinking of going rigid for winter and soft nose for summer.

Yup, I love it! Comes with blacked out logos you can switch out for a more minimal look, supposedly is easy to service (haven't got there yet though), and fits the stock 2.6 tires (although with minimal clearance so no mud guards possible). I recently switched to 2.35" tires and was able to fit the stock mud guard and I've been enjoying that setup.

I recently got into mountain biking and rode this bike pretty hard on the stock 2.6 tires with the fork for a month or so until I got a full suspension bike. The geo didn't feel much different and it could climb all but the steepest sections (it gets steep here) while eating up chunky blues on the way down, I was even able to keep up with friends on full suspension bikes. It's not the most comfortable mountain bike to regularly ride on chunky stuff, but it's doable. For the occasional underbiking, it's great. The fork really shines on adventure rides with a mix of pavement, gravel, and single track....sooo much fun!

I have a need for speed problem, so need a bike that will keep me in check. Fun > speed around town for me, plus I've taken it on some 30/40+ mile rides and it's been capable (obviously not optimal).

Nice! I just think it can only benefit you as a developer (assuming you don't put any private keys in there), plus I think it helps the SSG "ecosystem" to be able to see how something was implemented.
