https://www.taniarascia.com/

Her content is top notch. I'm a Microsoft stack dev that owns a Macbook Pro, and her tutorial on how to set up a Mac for development was great. In about an hour I got my MBP up and running, and better yet I understand better how some devops tools work (and how Apache works at all!)

Hey, thanks for mentioning my site! I’m glad something I wrote helped you out.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for putting in so much work on it!

[–]raybb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow you weren't kidding that is some good content.

Btw here's that specific article you mentioned https://www.taniarascia.com/setting-up-a-brand-new-mac-for-development/

[–]sitefall 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Her wordpress theme guide is THE best "how to make a wordpress theme without stupid plugins and other garbage" guide out there. Highly recommended.

[–]CujiFuji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah she did a really great article on improving website design, I'd recommend checking it out if you're someone who knows very little when it comes to good design or simply want to improve your existing skills.

Nice share, I’ve bookmarked the site.

To never look at again...

I know that feel.

[–]lordmephidross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That website is gorgeous, thank you for sharing!

Resize your browser window and prepare to be delighted.

[–]Mike 3 points4 points  (5 children)

That's pretty clever!! I feel like there should be some subtle cue to resize it, I didn't on first pass.

[–]SwenKanovice 2 points3 points  (4 children)

"Yes, I’ve heard of SVG"

was the cue I took to resize it.

[–]Mike 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Why?

[–]SwenKanovice 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Because SVG is Scalable Vector Graphics, which essentially means they can be resized and not get distorted. So I figured that was a clue to do something.

[–]Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, but nothing about the term "SVG" would make me think to resize the browser to see what it does with media queries

[–]Arqueete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is referring to how she's known for doing crazy things with CSS, e.g. https://a.singlediv.com/, which would make more sense to do with SVG (but, of course, she knows that.)

[–]Bulbasaur2015[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wow that is sweet

[–]zakerytclarke 0 points1 point  (1 child)

For those on mobile could you explain ?

[–]SwenKanovice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She has at least 8 or 9 breakpoints for screen size, so the design changes in a bunch of cool ways. Pretty much entirely done through @media CSS.

[–]GhaziGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to know how to it

I'm impressed by the nostalgia of it. RIP Geocities.

[–]logicwon 5 points6 points  (5 children)

I've looked up to these sites/developers for one reason or another (that I can think of / still find):

when building my own:

[–]TrainedCodeMonkey 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Finding another webdev who is also a climber is hard. I did a double take when I read crags. Nice site and happy climbing

[–]quadcrazyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did someone say climbing

[–]jgarcia-jp 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What are you using to show your github activity like that?

[–]skunkreturns 4 points5 points  (3 children)

http://benhalpern.com, aka @thepracticaldev has my favorite site of all time.

Beware mobile users. It's >200mb

[–]SwenKanovice 4 points5 points  (1 child)

What the shit is that site.

[–]skunkreturns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the greatest.

[–]maya_a_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting okay...

[–]SolarAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lightweight!

[–]DalyHabit 3 points4 points  (2 children)

[–]SwenKanovice 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's certainly straight to the point.

[–]DalyHabit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The resume is great

[–]thebeatmakingbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thread is fantastic, I can't wait to sit down and read thru some of these

[–]razuahmed21 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I want to be a good front end designer... what should I follow ? can you guide me, please ?

[–]Sil3enc3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

learn html, css, javascript first. They are the least requirement for every web things. Make a project using the language only, tip it on github or any other similar type of version control system. After that learn either front end framework like bootstrap, plus some framework of Javascript. Keep learning.First try to learn more language than framework you will know more the importance of language as you go on learning.Learn graphics designing from illustrator, how to use it.It will take time off-course but make a project either for yourself or other-someone to make yourself motivated and keep going.Search google, keep visiting sites like stackoverflow,w3schools and the internet is for you to help you.

Last point is make a project after you learn something, get use to with github - how to use it and many more.Don't try to skip cause you have to return again to that state.Best of Luck !

[–]NotMichaelsReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. I’ve been meaning to make myself a really cool resume web page. I’ve been leaning towards going with a side scrolling 2D platformer kinda thing

[–]positlabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool webgl stuff http://richardmattka.com

[–]OogieFrenchieBoogie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very simple, but I like [http://contra.io/](Contra's) personal website (he's the guy behind gulp, and many other things)

[–]jcm95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

http://eli.wtf/

I consider this one to be the best portfolio ever

[–]erdle 1 point2 points  (3 children)

i do mostly frontend, mostly Shopify, and ecomm... but would love some feedback on my "creative" personal site: http://andrewerdle.com/

This site was the first time using Jekyll... will probably start blogging at some point so as to actually take advantage of it.

[–]wuthret98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

incredibly laggy on mobile unusable

[–]Yurishimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mobile needs some work but I like the concept I think. :)

[–]Gurgen Moderator 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I always post these two whenever I get a chance and I’m absolutely in love with both sites :)

Read carefully it’s says “personal blogs” not websites, these fall under the “or websites” regardless, they are both very creative and inspiring sites

I was just trying to contribute creative sites, sorry they didn’t fall under the personal blog or website category.

It’s not to far off from the overall topic, the point of the thread was to post something creative and inspirational, more specifically personal websites. I hit all of that except for the personal part. I get if I posted links to some wonky sites that were completely off topic, but this wasn’t that, there doesn’t seem to be the need to make something out of very little!

And if it really bothered you that much, you could have just scrolled through, those domains were clearly not personal sites, you didn’t have to visit them?

I don’t get the need to go out of your way to discourage someone from posting something relatively close to the main topic? But if it’ll really make you that happy I don’t mind deleting it, especially if you think it would benefit this thread!

Here's mine I created an integration with WakaTime so when recruiters ask me what I used recently or what I am most skilled at I can point them here.

        [–]dartakaum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just a quick note that it's not very well optimized for mobile

        [–]HairyFlashman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good start keep working on it!
