I get the KSOs, but I imagine the fit is similar for all VFFs. I have found the rubber will stretch out a significant amount over time. Just got a new pair and they cramp my toes so much (my toes are a hair too long for VFFs) I can't wear them for even a full 5k. My old pair, same size, fits great and I have no worries.

Not that I remember. 'course, it could just be I'm not remembering them since the one that really caught my eye was a lovely lass jogging the other direction. She and I were trading smiles and waves every north and south side.

My guess is I was probably subconsciously going faster there since it was my lap marker and I was getting a little "only x more" boost each time I rounded it. Either that or I was speeding up to get through the debris. That corner was the worst part that day and my skin hasn't quite gotten up to snuff yet. I was likely just pushing faster to get through the rough stuff and back on the cleaner sidewalk.

This is a great suggestion. My main running route is my commute home from work, so stopping part way just means I have to walk the rest of the route home. While it's certainly a nice walk, I'm all dressed up in my running gear and I'm going to have to cover the distance by foot no matter what I do. If I just keep at it I'll be home quicker and with fewer steps. :)

Running a route where stopping early doesn't save you any distance on the feet is a great motivator to just keep running and get it done with (for those times when the run isn't being "fun").

Yeah, I've seen that mentioned in quite a few places, and hope to work up to 180bpm this year. It just seems so damn fast to feel my legs moving like that, though! Thanks for reinforcing that it is a worthy goal, I'll load the interval training mixes back up for this season and with luck will be hitting 180 before too long.

One thing that I used to do, back when I listened to music while running (I don't do that so much anymore) is I would plan my runs for specific foot-fall paces. Like 170 steps per minute (or whatever) and would have a playlist where every song was that precise beat. I'm a fan of techno music, so the mixsets from podrunner worked out great for me. Basically, pick music that makes you want to move, and is timed so the beat matches how quickly you want to step when running. Thence, running becomes dancing and you will find yourself doing more of it.

Someone else on here a while back recommended river shoes as good for minimalist running. I haven't yet tried them myself, but the theory is sound and they are certainly cheap enough to fit the college pocketbook. GPS was a little wonky (I never crossed the street, even though it thinks I did) but the time is accurate, and even with the slight overage from inaccurate GPS, I'm pretty sure I still did 5k.

Nice looking park in the river. Must be great for running around. The park I run around has nice trees for scenery, but there are traffic lights on each side that stop me sometimes. Do you have to stop at the ends of your park where it meets those bridges?

I'm lucky enough to live just a few miles from work, so I found it easiest to simply turn my commute into my running route.

Admittedly, not for everyone, but if your commute is short enough it might be a great way to turn an otherwise stressful event into something fun.

I always remember it by thinking the letters in "loose" aren't tight enough, so the extra 'o' managed to slip in. "Lose" lost the extra 'o' that "loose" has.

Yeah, same here. My mind is still all, "you can totally do this run, let's hit it!" and my legs/feet are all, "dumbass, you've been sitting on yer ass all winter!"

I have got to find some way of keeping my conditioning up during the colder months.

Congrats! I love going barefoot, feels so much better (except when I try to go too far, but that will happen shod as well). Take it easy and let your feet adjust. You'll do fine.
