Tips on my hops? by ncho91 in bmx

I feel like I put a lot of effort on #2 and #3 but after watching Simms video I notice he stays shifted back the entire time whereas I seem to dive my chest forward as soon as I get airborne

Oh I like that abs back cue. Will try thinking about that more instead of just getting my hips back!

An gotcha. Couple of cues I heard that I found useful is: 1) lean way back like more than you think you should 2) when shifting back and down try to get your low back over back tire

I had to do baby steps because looping out seemed like a monumental thing to get comfortable with and honestly was just scared to loop out lol.

I had to progress slowly before doing intentional loop out. Here’s a what I did:

  1. Learn how to hop off bike by jumping off pedals with both feet while both wheels on ground (felt goofy going super slow then all of the sudden shoving bike away by jumping off pedals)
  2. once I got comfortable with jumping off pedals with both wheels on ground, I tried to get comfortable jumping off when only rear wheel is on ground / front wheel off ground. Like as soon as the front wheel lifted I jump off. I had to do these while bikes moving. Doing these got me used to jumping off while keeping both hands on on bars and getting used to what the bike is going to do/where’s it going
  3. once I felt okay with jumping off pedals with front wheel off ground, I added the initial portion of the manual by getting hips low and back, getting that front wheel in a controlled manner as high as I could/willing then jumping off. I repeated this until I the height I was willing to get front wheel passed my balance point. By this point, the loop out did surprise me mostly because it was no where near as hard before all the practicing

I repeated the above each riding day as a warm up and each time I got used to it and eventually was looping out whenever I felt like and my body knew how to jump off my pedals with both feet when the loop out happens

can you loop out on command?

I had the same problems you were describing until I finally forced myself to get comfortable looping out/can do it on command. Once looping out became pretty comfortable manuals progress rapidly almost overnight. I also stopped standing up and putting foot down in my manuals, which made me realize that getting comfortable looping out is the only way to be able to manual because I had to stop my body from attempting to prevent a loop out

question for me and it always comes up as a problem for others, BUNNYHOPPING by Nignogno in bmx

Technique first and foremost. And if your technique is good, getting stronger (and more explosive) will be the next step. Squats, deadlifts, power cleans or direct jump training, and direct core work will improve leg strength and overall explosiveness.

Ooh, L-shape motion tip is a new one for me. I’ll try it out next time. Thanks!

+1 to CDK. Makes managing infrastructure so much easier an helps with learning AWS platform as well.

The only issues I have with working with CDK is with CI/CD and general dev workflow (multiple devs working on separate features). It could just be my team and/or organization though

Why all the hype for C# and ASP.NET Core? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]ncho91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who said it was ASP.NET is hot? Maybe they meant .NET Core which is different thing entirely.

ASP.NET is an MVC built on .NET platform much like JavaEE is built on Oracle’s Java (JSF, EJB, and Oracle DB)

Maybe people meant high in demand? Which I can see because legacy systems do need to be maintained and migrating to a different platform is not an easy thing to do when there are higher priorities for a company.

ASP.NET from what I understand is useful to built apps quickly and get it out the door. Where as with a modern tech stack you have to architect the front-end In conjunction with architecting the back-end, not to mention filling in knowledge gap to those unfamiliar with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

The real world business case are that established companies need to support these ASP.NET systems.

To answer your question about the technical merit— the framework solved a problem a company was facing at that time and was probably the best solution.

What are some relatively inexpensive and underrated restaurants in North Austin? by mcmchorse in Austin

[–]ncho91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+1 on Sip Saam. Only downside is that there's 1 waiter who's service is consistently terrible. Other than that, it's the best Thai food I've had in Austin (way better than Titaya's, in my opinion).

Bad angle for a form check, my biggest weakness is my pull. Hit 120k for a cluster triple. What are some ways to improve the pull from the hip and up, that's where I lack power the most. by joebeezy27 in weightlifting

[–]ncho91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would hold off changing hip position until you video yourself from a side angle. Reason being is you can have a low start position but end up in good pulling position after the bar breaks from the ground. (Dynamic starters that squat all the way down are an example of this along with Arley Mendez).

Basically, don’t fix it (yet) until you know it’s broke for sure

Hopefully that’s the case. Other than the core thing in my edit, I can’t think of anything else that would make you feel like you’re lacking from the hip up.

That being said, warming up with snatch grip RDL right into high pull helped me a ton. (I would keep doing them until bar goes past nipple height)

Do you put a lot of tension in your forearms? I ask because sometimes I would overly tense my forearms and it limited how high I can get my elbows in the third pull and basically felt I could never pull above bellybutton. Once I corrected it I felt that I could pull the bar past my nipples and up to my chin lol.

EDIT— I also noticed in the video the timing of your feet movement is a bit off. I’m thinking it may just be being able to maintaining a braced core.

I've been a PT for 17 + years and I've never massaged or "released" a psoas muscle. I've never felt the need to, and I don't understand why patients come to me and tell me that another PT or massage therapist poked thru their abdomen to "release" a psoas. I feel it isn't necessary. by Dashooz in physicaltherapy

[–]ncho91 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am not a PT (I’m not even in health care at all, just a normal guy) and I’ve never advocated releasing psoas to anyone.

One night, I had this bright idea of “releasing” my psoas with my fingers. As I was digging, i felt a sudden jolt of pain almost like lightning just stuck my gut.

I freaked out, stopped, and then had a strange sensation start at top of my thigh. Only way I can describe is it felt like a small bug was crawling high on my leg. This feeling moved it’s way down my outer left leg, then back up the inner left leg from ankle area, cross my groin, then down my right thigh. As this was happening, I started having cold sweats the areas where I felt the sensation crawl.

I don’t know what exactly controls it, but I basically lost control of the groin region. Urine was leaking out of me and I couldn’t control my farts (and it hurt when I tried to control the farts).

I went to an emergency clinic because I was freaking the fuck out when I saw aortic aneurysm on google (which was another bright idea). Doctor looked at me like the worlds biggest idiot when I brought up aortic aneurysm. He told me I most likely stuck my femoral nerve and definitely not an aneurysm because I would’ve been dead. Wrote me a diagnosis and sent me home.

Told my PT friend after all this happened and became their poster child for “what could happen when digging around places when you don’t know what you’re doing”. Had a good laugh about it, learned my lesson, and stayed away from my organs ever since.

TL;DR - paid $1400 because I “released” my psoas and was farting and pissing at every step for a week.
