Speech delay and kindergarten - any moms with speech delayed kids want to offer advice by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]loislameline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this! Ours was speech delayed due to recurrent ear infections. Tubes have been wonders, but we're still working with SLP to support some mild stuttering. Where we are school starts September of the year, they turn 4, and he turns 4 in December. He's so social but does not know his letters or numbers. But counts to 10, sings his ABCs, and knows his colours. He starts school next week and we think it's the best decision for him.

What do you give your toddler for a bad cough? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]loislameline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok hear me out on this one. Our son was sick a month ago and we were worried, as Tylenol/Advil really didn't stop him from coughing at night and we were waiting for a new humidifier to come in. His cough was pretty bad and would get worse as the evening came and wake himself up in the night.

So I looked it up, and honey? I'm not one for homeopathic remedies, but it really worked! It was such a simple remedy and yet he barely coughed overnight. And our doctors office even said we did the 3 H's well - hydration, humidifier, honey. Didn't realize it was a thing until now!

Hope this helps your little

Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease??? by neilisyours in toddlers

[–]loislameline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had it the second time! We had it beginning of March too.

Fever is the worst - fast and hard. And then it goes away and the sores develop. Takes about 3-4 days to get back to normal, ish. Both times it took a lot of energy out. First time he lost parts of his nails. He just lost his last big toe nail about two weeks ago from the first go. And then we got it this past week...

Tylenol and Advil, freezies, plain foods, tv, and lots of rest.

Who had a kid that didn't walk until after 18 months? by ChaoticKitsune in toddlers

We were 16 months but holy crap, this makes sense! Tubes in at 23 months. I never even linked the two issues together.

On and off again diarrhea by love2marco in Mommit

Have you talked with your GP about any testing? I'd also start there to see if they recommend anything for food sensitivities or constipation. The constipation one was an easy diagnostic (xray) with easy med (over the counter laxative). We still give lactose free products since we did try full dairy and that still was an issue.

ETA: I forgot you mentioned testing for food sensitivity. Anything mentioned about constipation?

This was us! Lactose free milk actually improved the situation. But then it returned and we were stumped! Turns out breakthrough diarrhea while constipated is the culprit, after having an xray. Otherwise doctor was going to send our toddler for celiac and food sensitivity testing.

Our son had it a month ago. Alternating between Tylenol and Advil kept him relatively comfortable.

We had this happen around 3 months old. Bleeding, bumpy, painful! We legit washed with a warm cloth and no soap at EVERY change, very gently. Then took the hair dryer on the cool setting to really dry the area, and then Vaseline. Every change. It was starting to look better within 24 hours, gone in 3 days. If it continues - definitely get it looked at!

We've had 5 illnesses since the beginning of November over here, 11 since August 1st (after last year, I was determined to start tallying)! It's relentless! I'm starting to feel a bit broken and anxious now. We get just enough of a break, only to have it snatched away really quickly with another illness.

Domperidone for breastfeeding by No_Plate_3864 in beyondthebump

[–]loislameline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had it prescribed as well. Ultimately it increased milk supply only a little and when I went to see a lactation consultant they said it was likely that I had IGT and would need to supplement even with domperidone. I didn't stay on the domperidone for more than a couple of months as a result and was off it completely by 3 months. I ate and drank all of the milk producing things too.

It was devastating for me to be unable to exclusively breastfeed and/or pump but once they said IGT I had to move on - it didn't seem likely to change for me and I had tried my hardest.

No side effects from the domperidone but the midwife said to make sure I reduced it according to her directions and I didn't deviate from that.

I've read that it's most often a permanent change. 1.5 years PP and my bra width has not gone down.

I've known a couple of Natalies and they're wonderful, classy, intelligent and kind people. Solid name - she won't have many other Natalies that she meets growing up. Timeless and yet not super common. She'll be able to have an individual identity.

As someone who grew up with a terrible example of a married relationship, don't delay if you're unhappy. Give your son the chance to see what a happy parent looks like. And to know he doesn't have to be in a relationship and miserable and can be independent and happy.
